Humming a jolly tune to himself Varian the Various, changeling entertainer extraordinaire, drove his cart of props to the castle gates. It had been some time sense he performed here, but he fondly remembered making the young price and princess laugh. With any luck they might remember the good times as well, all the better to get his latest vision underway. After stopping the horses the changeling, in his standard half elven male appearance, quickly approached the nearest guard.

"Good day my fine sir. My name is Varian the Various, and I would very much like to speak with her majesty if you please."

The entertainer said with a smile and a slight bow. It was never a bad idea to show guards respect, especially as a changeling.

Sleep came harder than she hoped. Even with the knowing presence of Lord Blackwell outside her chamber, her mind was still filled with thoughts of creeping assassins and curses best left buried. Still, what little rest she gained did help to ease her head, and the deep bags under her eyes were less pronounced.

"My Lady."

Someone knocked at the door. Not Draven. Where had that fool of a man run off to? She had asked - but no matter. She opened to the frantic face of one of the gate guards.

"Uh, my Lady. You have another visitor," he stammered, clearly on-edge by her earlier tirade. Gielban sighed, but forced herself to smile.

"I suppose I am ready to see them. When can I expect them to arrive?"

"Uh. They. They're already in the throne room, my Lady."

Cursing under her breath, Gielban patted her bed-frazzled hair down with one hand and pushed the guard to the side with the other. She was barreling through the throne room doors when she realized she was still wearing her chemise. Oh, it was not like whoever was one the other side hadn't seen a woman in a chemise before. She raised her eyes at the newcomer standing before her throne, crossing the room with all the grace and poise of someone not still in their undergarments.

"Pardon my disheveled state, I have just awoken." Smooth articulation. The words of a diplomat. No sign of the earlier anger, no tension or doubt. "To whom do I owe the pleasure, ser?"
Alone she drifts from ancient mists
Nary a candle, nary a wish
But in the wont of wandering paths
Through wooded knolls, and windworn crags
She seeks a face she thought as friend
But now -- she thinks as judgement's end

As Varian was escorted to the throne room he couldn't help but notice an air of unease some of the guards had, especially the one who went to get the queen. It was clear these people needed his services. Entertainment to take the trouble away, at least for a short time. If the queen felt the same perhaps it would be easier to see his vision realized than he initially thought.

Once in the throne room the changeling looked down at his clothes and decided they were not up to royal standards. In an instant he changed between a few different outfits before settling on a classic, a vibrant blue suit with gold trim. Happy with his selection the entertainer waited patiently for the queen to arrive...and was soon greeted by her in her nightgown.

She crossed the room with dignity and confidence dispite her lack of clothes, making the entertainer feel overdressed for the occasion rather than the other way around. Unfortunately she did not immediately recognize him, but there was a good chance he had another form the first time he was here. Regardless his name and powers should remind her of the good times.
With a smile and a slightly over exaggerated bow the changeling introduced himself.

"Varian the various my lady. I believe we've had the pleasure before, but that was some time ago. Forgive my sudden and late arrival, I just came into town and after seeing the state of things I simply had to see you at once."

"Varian..." the queen replied, pondering the word as she tasted it on her tongue. It was certainly something familiar. An echo of something she once knew, back from an earlier time where she had much less to worry for. After a few seconds, her eyes lit up with visible delight, and a soft smile slipped onto her lips.

"I remember you." It was a whisper, but it carried well in the quiet room. "Yes. I remember. you came for a long while, back when mother..."

Her words cut off, and the silence rang loud. Nonchalantly, she waved her hand, the smile never faltering.

"Nevermind that. The last time we met, I was nary to your waist, and yet it appears you have not aged a day. Expected, I suppose, for one with your particular... gifts." She had always been particularly fond of his faces. Even without the use of his powers, his range of expressions had always delighted her, human emotion brought to hyperbole with an entertainer's flair. "May I ask why you have come, after so long? Certainly not because you missed me. I had to have been but a blade of grass in the fields that have taken you to court."

IIyana looked at Laeroth as they reached the gate to the palace with the rest of her royal party. Shaking her head she nudged her mare forward until she was ahead of her guards. "I am Princess IIyana of the Kingdom of Isluzia i request an audience at once with the Lady Conrad. My company has traveled far to meet with her." Laeroth rode up so he was beside her shaking his head, "I came earlier and delivered a letter from her father."

One of IIyana's ladies trotted her horse up beside her, glancing over at her whispering something to her watching as she nodded before turning back to the guards, "please it is most important that she see us." Laeroth glanced over at IIyana before gently leaning over kissing her softly on the lips surprise showing in both their eyes. She shook her head, at him "you know that I am to be married." Upon hearing that Laeroth nodded, "yes I know to an elf that you don't love or even know." Reaching out a hand placed it on his, "that is how my parents were married." She shook her head, "It is my half brother's decision as he is now the heir."

Seeing the queen smile at his memory brought Varian great joy, extending his already wide smile. He loved nothing more than bringing happiness to those around him and her smile proved he succeeded. It also made him more confident in his buisness here, surely if the queen remembered him so fondly she'd agree with his point of view. Of course there was only one way to find out for sure.

"On the contrary, I missed you greatly, but that is not my only reason for coming before you today. Originally Azuria was just the next stop in my travels, but in my short time back I've witnessed something truly terrible. Im not sure if you are aware but The Torren, once one of the finest theatres in all of the world, has been left abandoned and desolate. Reduced to little more than a training field. I was heartbroken to see Azuria's finest theater brought so low...but then I had an idea. With your permission I'd like to take control of the Torren and return it to it's former glory."

"The Torren?"

She cursed herself internally. She had forgotten entirely about that old place, once the center of shows, songs, and battles, now more than likely a decrepit shell. Her father had used it sparingly in his later years. In fact, it had been her mother that loved the place the most, and past her passing it was not surprising its funding slipped away.

They were in dark times. Maybe a little light could brighten her people's minds. She had been so preoccupied with her own fears that she had neglected the wellbeing of her kingdom, and for that there was no excuse.

"What, praytell, is your plan? I must admit, this is far from expected requests after living as strangers for so long. Even knowing you as a child..." Gielban paused, growing silent, eyes wandering to the splayed light through the throne room's windows. "I just want to be certain this is a sure investment. I do not trust my judgement, at moment."

"I understand completely. After all this is a rather large and strange request. Even more so coming from me. I'm afraid I don't have much in the way of an actual plan, this is all very spur of the moment, but when I saw the Torren I was....inspired. I saw the perfect stage built for and by performers. I saw jousts, plays, concerts, all manner of entertainment and art presented to and enjoyed by all who entered. I saw a legacy...my legacy...a theater to call home and smiles for miles around."

At this point Varian realized he was getting a little carried away. Standing in the middle of a throne room ranting on and on about dreams and theaters, he must of seemed like a madman. He laughed a little and took a step forward, his face never loosing his smile but becoming slightly more serious as he spoke again.

"Gilly...you know I wouldn't come all the way here and ask for this if I didn't plan on seeing it through. I can't promise I'll never travel again, but I can promise to personally ensure the Torren is revived and thrives once more. It'll be my masterpiece. I already have plans for the grand opening. Besides, who better to run a theater than a performer?"

"Please, no one calls me that anymore," Gielban replied, an embarrassed flush tinging her cheeks. By the gods, she was beginning to feel like her old self again. Any trace of stress or tension had melted away in this brief encounter, and despite the air of the palace since the masque (or maybe, even since her father's death), she almost wanted to dance along with the joyful man, take part in his enthusiasm. Smiling brightly, she shook her head and sighed.

"I suppose I have no choice but to let you try," she replied, feigning reluctance. "But on one condition. I will not see my Torren mishandled, even by an old friend. When you once more open it to the world..."

She rose from her seat, struggling to maintain a stern face behind her sudden gaudy joy.

"...I ask that you invite me to see what you have done." After a few moments of cold silence, she laughed, and sat back down. "How much will you need? My father hoarded his wealth well. Say your price, and you will have it."

"My lady...you and your family are always invited to the Torren. I'll even build you a special booth to watch from."

The performer said with a laugh, filled with excitement about the future. His mind was filling with ideas on what to build, what to show, who to write to join him, ect. But he tried his best to contain himself for now. There was still work to be done after all.

"As for funds...I think 500 swords should do the trick. Enough to rebuild and employ a few acts. You have my eternal thanks Gielban. And I promise you you'll have all your gold back and more. In the meantime if you wish to see any of my new tricks...all you have to do is ask and I'll be here. Just like old times."
