[REQ] Life as We Know It (RWBY/RESERVED)

Post by Annasiel » Sun Aug 12, 2018 6:38 am

Ozpin lies and children die.

That's all you need to know in this world. The rest bend around those two extremes, bowing to the will of the young ones' fates and the weavings of the men in power. Humanity, huddled in their little concrete shells, don't know how to deal with the horrors outside. Nothing more than sheep in a pasture with hungry Beowolves prowling the gate. Like sheep, they turn to those who promise safety, and eagerly eat up any words they spew. I admit, it's better than dying out there, beyond our walls, but that doesn't make our predicament any less assured. Any less self-inflicted, whether through ignorance or delusion.

It's common knowledge that semblances, the only constant advantage we as individuals have, are best trained from youth. The older you get, the fainter your aura grows. Knowing this, they rear our children for battle, training them in that damned school to fight away the demons. Our saviors. Our sacrifice. Unwont to find a better way, the cycle continues - taking those who show signs of a semblance, teaching them to hunt, and throwing them at the boogeyman in hopes he'll go away.

It's pathetic, but it's all we know. Maybe one day we'll finally break free from this endless war... or maybe we're just stalling the inevitable. Either way would bring a form of peace.
Alone she drifts from ancient mists
Nary a candle, nary a wish
But in the wont of wandering paths
Through wooded knolls, and windworn crags
She seeks a face she thought as friend
But now -- she thinks as judgement's end

Sylvia Veridian
Image

Age: 18.

Sex: Female.

Personality (Optional): Mom.

Image

Semblance: Weight Phase.

Sylvia is able to alter her weight at will, but only within the range of 10lbs and her natural weight of 141lbs. It does not change her bodily density (it is solely manipulating weight, not body mass, so lower weight does not lead to relative incorporeality). Though it expends aural energy to effect, it does not require any to maintain. Meaning, if she runs out of aura while at a different weight, she will remain at that weight until she is able to revert herself back to normal.

Weapon:

Image

Arai and Aeola.

A pair of ornamental fans imbued with green dust. They maintain a relatively hard edge, capable of cutting, but are structurally inferior to blade-based designs. Where they really shine is in propulsion; through activation with aura, they are capable of generating breezes strong enough to achieve limited flight, knock back smaller Grimm, and deflect projectiles. Because of their similarity to dust tattoos, they require less reloading than other weapons. However, when they do finally run low on infused particulate, it is much more labor-intensive to replenish.

Backstory:

Model student. Model fighter. Ever since she first entered Signal as a child, Sylvia excelled at her duties, not through natural talent, but through dedication. Born into a relatively wealthy family, perfectionism has been a driving force in her life, an innate desire to live up to her Huntress title. She wants to be the heroes from the storybooks, protecting the innocent from terrible monsters. She wants to be someone to look up to. Even after over a decade in the program, she still hasn't lost this resolve. Though the light in her eyes has dimmed a little from where it was in youth, she still does her best to inspire others in following her path.
Alone she drifts from ancient mists
Nary a candle, nary a wish
But in the wont of wandering paths
Through wooded knolls, and windworn crags
She seeks a face she thought as friend
But now -- she thinks as judgement's end

Name: Cerulean 'Cer' Kodan.

Age: 16.

Sex: Male.

Personality (Optional): Edgy af.

Description: Image

Semblance: Vomit Comet. Cer can induce severe vertigo and nausea on living targets. This generally works on a line-of-sight basis, but Cer finds it hard to moderate how much is induced with this method. He prefers to use a method where he turns an imagined 'dial,' which controls the level of intensity in the effect. At the lowest 'level,' the target will become slightly dizzy, or feel like they are about to throw up, but will not actually do so. At 'level five,' the target may collapse, unless they possess exceptionally strong fortitude,or have been repeatedly exposed to the effect. At 'level ten' the target will faint, or possibly even have a seizure. Any vomiting will be uncontrollable, and possibly debilitating. This is not the final level, but is the highest Cer is generally willing to use against human opponents.

The 'Vomit Comet' is much more effective against humans than Grimm, as the Grimm do not necessarily appear to be possessed of actual, functioning organs. However, they can still be disoriented, and even made to collapse, at significant levels of intensity.

Weapon: Bloodletters. (Meat cleaver).

Backstory: Known in street-racing circles as the Cerulean Comet, Cer was a carefree kid in his earlier years. That changed abruptly, when he discovered his semblance. It manifested during a race, as one of his rivals passed him by. He accidentally caused the young man to wipe out, resulting in the racer being permanently injured. He had no interest in attending Vale's academy, but the fear of being ostracized by his peers forced him to do so. Quickly becoming jaded, he donned the helmet that matched his namesake, and now rarely removes it.

Cer has taken up smoking, since enrolling at Beacon, as 'I don't have that long to live anyways. Grimm's gonna get me before the cancer does, that's for damn sure.' His signature weapon is a far cry from the traditional modular weaponry of the Huntsmen- he fights using mundane meat cleavers. Though his aura prevents them from breaking against more sophisticated weapons, one might still be inclined to think they're suboptimal for combat. One look at the Comet mid-battle quickly proves them wrong.

Name: Dandelion "Danny" Nedlog

Theme: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=vOMToRUhUHY

Age: 15

Sex: "obviously a girl ya dipshit"

Personality: "Voracity for the Game"

Description: "Danny is about five foot two gold eyes and hair to match, with shit social skills on a daily basis. However she does well in the field so people put up with her. Essentially she's taken to seeing combat as a game but with only one life. While loving the thrill of it and not grieving losses she finds a squad dying would be inconvenient. A solo run would be annoying and to risky. Her hair is waist long usually worn with one side done up as a pony tail, not convenient but she'd pick a fight with anyone who said to change it. Besides what's a few comforts when the life expectancy is so short? A scar rests over her left eye from a training incident when she was eleven. As for clothing choice she usually opts for a rather thick jacket with a "combat skirt" as they like to call it stockings combat boots and whatever shirt is convenient. Having at times simply stolen others. Usually though it'll have an accent of yellow to it."

Semblance: "High Voltage" as it is often called is the ability to channel ones aura into electricity specifically in comparison to a positive lightning strike. Intense in nature it consistently transfers an electric current of thirty thousand amperes with fifteen columns of electric charge for a total of 500 megajoules of energy. More specifically their currents are by nature long continuing, letting its effects continue over time. With the tendency of high peak currents "high voltage" is known as well to hear surfaces and often ignite fires. When it comes to her use her go to tactics so far is "HVS" "HVF" and "HVA". High Voltage Shield depletes her aura by forty percent at a time, the shield creates a radius around her body of electricity to help in defending of melee attacks or fighting up close. High Voltage Flash is the ability to at the expense of twenty percent cast either a bolt or sphere of lightning. With a full lightning strike of a continuous duration of up to five minutes going at a target and maybe chaining to those who got close to the target. Where as the sphere will generate a more quick one shot to those in the fifteen foot radius. High Voltage Ammunition is the most cost efficient at only five percent of her aura at a time, the use however can quickly drain in a large fire fight however. This small use of semblance will charge her ammunition with electricity and lightly boost the speed of her munitions. With each column of charge as it were represented in a round.

It is theorized that with training it might be able to be improved further in potential perhaps making each bullet more like a rail gun or increasing Danny's speed. However we also suspect by the age of twenty five if not sooner it'd be more equivalent to a negative lightning strike. With expectancy of it to drop faster in potential from that point even more. To a point where around thirty five we suspect using HVA once with any remotely comparable charge would deplete her aura to a near lethal status.

Weapon: "Railshooter" is a sub machine gun at base with a stock that reduces recoil and weapon swing even when mid sprint. Accurate at up to one hundred eighty meters/two hundred yards with a thirty round magazine. With a muzzle velocity of nine hundred thirty five feet per second of the point forty five munition, or bringing it up to a thousand feet per second when HVA is in use. It's also equipped with a sling, additional grip near the front and a red dot sight with a custom lightning bolt styled cross hair. Of course as is common with most hunters and huntresses it is not only a gun. The stock and grip will fold combine and retract in a quick sequence to work as an axe head, with the secondary grip and muzzle combining into the handle.

Gear: usually Danny will travel with three days worth of rations and water, four glow sticks, night vision goggles and rappel gear. Gas mask and rebreather are common though not always with her. Twenty magazines of ammunition is usually on her and lastly is her cybernetic left eye. "Aim Bot" as it were assists in zooming in and getting a bead on the target even in motion.

Backstory: For as long as Danny could remember she loved two things. First person shooters and the stories of soldiers and hunters out on the field protecting home. When she was ten she learned of her semblance and then wanted to be a huntress like her sister Lem Ony Nedlog or "Oni" as she liked to be called. Oni said Danny was "being a noob little shit who couldn't take a bullet let a lone a Grimm" before she left on leave again. One year later it was Danny's birthday and her sister was in town. A small blonde walked up to her sister with a fire in her eyes. Grabbing the Oni's pistol katana and pointing the barrel to her left eye.

"You can't be so sour on my birthday Lem, all I want is a hug. And then for you to pull the fucking trigger." The sigh was heavy the hand though was an iron grip. She waited to sense an aura, it was weak. Frail and pathetic but it would be enough, and the reality was there was no better way to know if the sister of hers could handle the task. So a hug was given before moving into position. Plenty of family and friends begged not to do it but others who'd fought Grimm understood, so a index eases on the trigger.

An eye was lost, but someone dedicated to winning the game was born. Once Danny was able to wake up she was instantaneously asking to learn about guns and aura. Eager to learn what her abilities were and how to use them, it didn't matter how tragic things could get to her. She simply was convinced they needed to work harder coordinate better, because the game wasn't an easy one. There wasn't a better first person shooter then one that was real.

Bram Cherno
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Personality: As a Huntsman, Bram is driven completely by his relentless devotion to his primary objective: ensuring the survival of the human race. In the face of an existential threat - the Grimm - Bram has consciously elected to push aside all other interests in favor of protecting his species from extinction. This has led him to develop both a hardy sense of self-discipline as well as a rigorous training regimen, which has solidified his proficiency in the use of his Semblance.

However, two developmental factors have rendered him a polarizing, brutal figure. The first is the tendency of Grimm to home in on strong negative emotion. Out of tactical necessity, Bram has consciously suppressed his emotional reactions, including reactions to major life events; in order to better combat the threat, he distances himself from his actions, attempting with varying degrees of success to separate his conscious thought-process from his actions. As a result, he looks down immensely on those whose emotions may jeopardize humanity's survival, given the fact that these negative emotions attract hostile Grimm.

The second is Bram's abject refusal to humanize the non-human. Unlike other Huntsmen, he does not attribute personalities of any sort to the Grimm he encounters; he perceives them as being without malice, incapable of sincere emotion, and utterly undeserving of sympathy or mercy. The same goes for Faunus, who he regards as being somewhat similar to aberrant Grimm. To him, their animal traits signal biological degeneracy, lacking the dignity of fully-formed, intelligently-designed human beings. As Bram believes in the traditional Gods of Remnant - one of light and one of darkness - he is also a believer in the concept of metaphysical dualism, or the notion that there is objectively-defined good and evil in the universe. He does not see Faunus as having any part to play in the metaphysical struggle between life, the creation of the older brother, and death, as brought about via the Grimm and the younger brother. Therefore he sees their survival as inconsequential at best, and an active evil perpetrated at the expense of humanity at worst.

This refusal to humanize his enemies also leads him to offload his frustrations onto his allies, if he comes to view them as incompetent. Knowing very well that the only good Grimm is a dead Grimm, he likewise believes that the only good human is one who does not jeopardize their own survival, or that of others. Therefore, if a fellow Huntsman should fail in some task, disobey his directives, or otherwise make some mistake which endangers humanity's overall survival, he will not hesitate to viciously reprimand them, or even take revenge to prevent future slip-ups.

Finally, Bram's relative youth and inexperience in dealing with threats makes him volatile, prone to impatience, and occasionally hypocritical - holding others to standards which he cannot always reach himself. His tendency to direct anger towards allies and even harm them if they fail to exceed his expectations is damaging to his psyche; nevertheless, he views his extremism as being a necessary measure to ensure the continuation of humanity's existence, and therefore above reproach. He is a zealot, brutal, efficient, and unforgiving.
Semblance: Bram's semblance, Souvenir, is utterly deadly, and highly traumatic to be afflicted with. Souvenir causes any healed injury on a struck foe to un-heal, returning enemies to any previously-damaged state they may have had. Successive attacks result in more extreme variations of this effect; for instance, if a human enemy broke their arm as a child, then their arm would, in essence, re-break should he manage to strike them successfully. This semblance is represented in action by a black glow around his weapon; in addition to a modern-day wound, it redoubles the pain experienced previously. This makes him particularly adept at killing Grimm which escape at the last moment; any harm done to them at any point can be brought back, the effect being more extreme the more he harms them. Souvenir can also be used on inorganic targets, such as the foundations of buildings; any repaired cracks in a pillar, for example, would immediately decay, returning to their previous form.

Weapons: Bram's weapon, like that of most Huntsmen, utilizes a dual-configuration collapsible-frame with both a melee-oriented mode and a ranged-weapon mode. Built for efficiency and sleekness, his weapon, Midnight, doubles as a handheld pistol and a thin polearm. Like most Huntsman's weapons, Dust is incorporated into the design; it fires dust-based ammunition when in gun configuration, and also uses it to fuel the transformation. When sheathed, it is holstered at his side. Bram has also been known to carry a secondary pistol, often clipped to the back of his belt, for emergencies.
Transportation: Bram owns a custom-built motorbike, which appears to be powered by Dust. Capable of functioning in both urban environments and rough terrain, it also boasts a high-performance "silent running" engine that allows him to glide around quietly when not accelerating. The tires can maintain purchase at 90° angles, scaling sheer walls if it maintains speed; he is proficient in its use, and is capable of leaping effortlessly from the vehicle to engage a foe.
Paraphernalia: Bram wears a set of layered light armor and a standard combat helmet, which covers his face.
Backstory: Bram is a standard human resident of Remnant who was selected for the Atlas Academy due to his strong aura and notable Semblance. His academic study of the Grimm-Human conflict and his hardline attitude prompted his desire to engage the Grimm head-on and eventually destroy them. For this reason, he has transfered to Vale, recently the site of Grimm activity.

(Not in charge, but...) I don’t see why not, but you’d be without a team to start with. My thought would be that we accept people in fours, so no one is without a team, but I dunno if that many people are even interested.
