Luki + Killian art 2018

A place for those who dabble in paint. Or, you know, pixels. Because they matter too.

We should trade our methods/tips, could be good for references. xD
Which one are you referring to, the flame or the general skin + clothing shading?

Thank you ;v;
Hair rendering took a while for the second one so that means a lot to me.

Ah right. Both you and I use fairly thin lineart, so I wonder if it's just the method or how we organize our layers. If it helps:

I took inspiration from Suou's drawings (like this one https://www.pixiv.net/member_illust.php ... d=30775369), except I tend to make my colours a bit more contrasting since they're more saturated.

I used clip studio paint, but most drawing software would have the normal brush and pen tips.
1. After you've coloured the base, on a new layer (clipped to the base colour) and select shading colour.
2. On this new shade layer, use pen tool to draw out the shapes of the shadows. For me this takes the most time since it takes a while to render and for the shape to look convincing. Sometimes I find myself having to adjust the main shade colour as well. ^^;;;
3. After you're happy with the shape of the shadows, use the brush tool to soften the edge. (I'm still trying to work out which bits are best to do that. It's often on fabric, and where there's additional secondary lighting? That's what i've gathered so far while looking at references.).
4. Lock that layer, and then choose a darker or lighter colour (depends on your lighting again), to add additional colour to the shading so there's more dimension. (that said, I think you do better at that than my drawings xD).
5. After the shading for everywhere is done, I tend to also add an overlay or add glow layer, then use a light colour to shade around edges where it might be lighter, to give it more dimension again. (or use multiply to make things darker for dark atmosphere)

Thanks so much for taking the time to write that out, Killian! Didn't expect that, but thank you x3.

I do almost all the same, but the making of shadows through a pen / select tool I do not. I usually just paint like normal paint when I do soft shading. It's worth a shot for me! Thanks. :D I'm gonna try it out when I can ^_^.

Also, dat beautiful newest piece. Unf. I want the dress. REE
