Catacombs of Saeggeodran

Catacombs of Saeggeodran

The Realm of Saeggeodran is riddled with deep expansive tunnel networks and caves. The surface of the world was long ago scorched to a black waste, causing survivors to seek shelter deep beneath the surface. As life slowly came back to the surface people who once lived underground for centuries ventured back into the light, as time went by the catacombs beneath their feet were forgotten and stories of the past were disregarded as mere children's tales. Ancient citadels built deep underground have been reclaimed by the darker forces of the world, for those who discover a lost entrance to these wondrous cities the payoff is immeasurable. Vaults housing long forgotten gold and magic not seen in centuries lay were they where abandoned, that is if you manage to pick a city that is still abandoned.

Great cities sprawl out in the sun’s grace, while dark cities lay beneath gathering strength. One such city is Alnwick, a small merchant city of no notable importance that is until a entrance to the subterranean world was discovered in the tombs of the church. As one of the adventures in town at the time of its discovery you and your band of foolhardy ‘heros’ can be the first to explore the depths of this new catacomb.

As you approach the City of Alnwick, the long dusty trade road at your back you remember why this city is so often skipped by the larger caravans. settled around a large oasis in the center of an inhospitable desert the land of salt planes and hard baked clay, the city had no real trade value to most of the more fertile cities. The city walls are pock marked as they fall apart from disuse and neglect, street urchins crowed the shady ally ways looking out into the bright mid day streets

The elf enters the City of Alnwick, wiping the sweat from his brow after his long travels. He laments the fact that he'd taken that wrong turn and instead of backtracking decided that going to this destination was fine. He noted the conditions of the walls and the lax security. He does spot one guard sitting in the shade and asks him, "Hello there my man, could you tell me where a good inn is?"

Seeing Varian's approach the guard rose stiff legged from his seat and looked him up and down, "A good inn eh? well you might try going to the 'Salt Lick' its just up the main road past the market, if you hit the smithy then you went to far... what brings you into Alnwick anyways don't get many visitors here let alone lone visitors?"

Varian gave a little laugh at the question, "Well you see, I was on my way to Breadon, but I was caught in a bit of a sand storm. Eventually I found the path that lead me here. Sadly I was separated from my companions along the journey, but they're just as capable as I am, so I'm not too worried for them. Please give them the same kind welcome you've given me if you see them." He looked down the street and murmured the inn's name and looked at the guard, "Alright, I'll be off then, have a nice day~" He strolled down the street as much as the hot sun would permit him and he looked around at everything that was going on within the market when he walked through it.

Strolling through the dusty streets of Alnwick was not the most interesting of activities, most of the cities inhabitants were taking shelter indoors away from the harsh mid day sun. the coffee houses that where a hub for gossip and discussion were packed at this point and the din of many conversations filled the side streets. The market was still active with its large cloth pavilions blocking out most of the harsh sunlight, but even with this only stanch hagglers and the merchants themselves still stayed out. The market held everything from food, art, to weapons and animals.

Varian looked at the animals thoughtfully and was also curious why weapons were being sold on the streets when they apparently had a smith just down the road, but perhaps he made armor instead of weapons... he didn't dwell on these things for too long as he headed towards this supposed "Salt Lick" he had decided that once he got settled was when he'd begin his exploring of the city.

As you push the old dried out doors of the salt lick open the smell of stale alcohol and sweat over take you, at least its better than the stench of manure outside of the building thanks to the stables attached to the side of the building. the manager is a tall skinny man with long scars running up his arms white against his dark skin, his face was gaunt and and his head balding. looking up at you he says " well ill be damned a visitor, well a room will run you 3 copper a night"

Varian strolls up to the man and leans against the counter, "Do you also serve meals here or will I have to search out my own?" He idly touches his coin bag as he takes a look around the room and at it's patrons. "At least I know where I can get a drink~" He grin's at the keep, "So just how long has it been since you've seen a new face in this city?"

" i got food enough to fill your belly, may not be much for taste after me damn cook went missing a few nights back after poking around the warrens"... as he said this he traced his hand along a long jagged scar on his left arm. "new faces hu, well we had some adventure types come through about a week ago , but i never saw much of them. As far as i know they haven't left the city yet, but i haven't really seen them parading about the town."
