A Ghostly Cat Walk [Reserved RP]

Post by Azra » Tue Apr 17, 2018 3:01 am

Los Angeles 9:03 PM

It'd been two months from their escape from The Facility. They had dragged people away from families and homes under the pretense of training and betterment. Told the world this was somewhere to go for the astranged meta human and mutant to come to understand themselves. Azra however had seen them for who they were, when she said no they threatened her. When Alezra's family insisted and she tried to explain they pointed a gun to her mother's temple. They knew as things went on that shooting Alezra was pointless. So they fired into someone else. It broke her for a time, now though it just infuriated her on a daily basis.

The world was in a state of tranquility, there was still oddities and criminal elements sure but the bolder concepts had subsided. The capes in the wind the fists of infinitely trained men and women they had become the bed time stories of the modern generation. Nobody wanted to try and conquer nations anymore or warp reality to their whims what chance of success was there? So it fades away and most with an ability or power just look for ways to use it in a mundane fashion. But that was all just the bullshit on the screen.

Behind it Alezra was convinced was just politics and lies. World wasn't better the ones in charge just hid their activities better. She'd left their place earlier in the night an attic someone had been willing to give them so long as they tried to go unnoticed by authorities. It was only a temporary place of residence but the good nature of people was something Alezra was a bit more trusting of. She wasn't so sure if that would remain true after tonight however, not after the tip she had gotten. A young addict had informed the ghost of a group of dealers on the edge of town with crooked cops as back up. A good number of people to go after meant aa good chance of being seen of needing to go back on the run.

"Hey, you busy? Found some friends on the end of town, maybe a girl shouldn't take them on all alone." She called basically the only phone she ever called. Alezra had only called her aunt once didn't care to ever again after that for fear of safety. Only person she ever really called was the guy she had escaped with. Honestly either of them she felt could handle most fights alone Alezra just liked having others around. Knowing she wasn't alone.

It'd dipped into the eleventh hour of the night a few of the thugs could be seen drowsy from things that transpired around the house. Police cars were near by and smoke escaped the window of one, they were not here to make a bust she could tell. Might fool those who wanted to think the world was okay but Azra didn't buy into it. Dropping into a crouch she creeped through the wall. Not a room or shadows but moved through brick at most maybe a light haunting mist might have been seen most would see nothing though or think nothing of it if they did. Drawing her knife her hand moved through the window and then cold steel rested against the arteries.

"Go back to the office tell your boss I find a badge with the filth you'll end like them." Behind those cat like eyes was someone who wanted to draw an edge along the throat. He was likely just trying to help ends meet however not committed to criminal behavior. Either way he was willing to depart from the scene called the others to do the same. Leaving the snow haired teen with a window of opportunity.

Image

She was confident in her strut forward almost playful as she blowed a loose strand of hair from her face. Her free hand going for an additional knife as she got close to the door. She didn't need to be silent or subtle her stance was teasingly open armed as if challenging the collection of thugs she saw. At first they were hesitant the confrontations so many gang members had to adapt to before had faded. Eventually a gun rises though and barks the projectile only whispd by passing through her head and into a wall behind harmlessly. More continued and then they stopped as silver opened his throat. She could see it in them, most of these people had victims of the no challenge variety. The living ghost was okay with placing them into a similar predicament.

Walker was on the internet when he got the call.

After they'd escaped from the Facility, Walker had known that simply living on the run until the government caught up with them wasn't a viable long-term plan. Things needed to change, and they were already past the point of peaceful protests, or activism.

He'd done a few things towards the end of gathering a power-base. First, he'd sent statements to the media, detailing they way he and Alezra had been treated at the Facility. Next, he'd opened a twitter account, which had gained around seventy thousand followers, and growing. He used this new public platform to get messages out to young mutants and metahumans, both who were in danger of being captured, and taken to places similar to the Facility, and those who didn't know how much danger they were in. When someone was getting chased by the cops for the 'crime' of having powers, they called him. Even if Walker wasn't nearby, he had reach enough that he could ask someone else in the area to help. It wasn't exactly the Underground Railroad, but it was a start.

A week ago, Walker had started a Discord server. It wasn't terribly secure, as far as platforms like that went, but Walker had taken pains to keep any third parties from joining it. He distributed invites only once he'd done a video-chat with the recipient, and had them prove that they had powers. Then, he sent them a one-time-use link. At the moment, it only had a few members, the people who shared his view that things needed to change, and seemed committed to the cause.

Walker picked up the phone. Some... 'friends' across town.

"Don't have all the fun without me."

The Punk-Rock Pyrokinetic grabbed his trademark leather jacket and aviators, and headed out, letting the people he'd been messaging know he would be unavailable for a few hours. Their safehouse, arranged by one of Walker's followers, was a pretty dingy place, as far as houses went, but it sufficed, for two teenage fugitives. Walker's bike was hidden out back. He unchained it, and set off to where Alezra had indicated.

O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O

The ride didn't take that long, thankfully. The longer either of them spent outside, the higher the chance someone might find them. When he arrived at the place, his erstwhile partner was already getting shot at, not that bullets meant much to her. He parked the bike, stepped off, and began walking towards the building. One of the people still standing noticed him, and drew his gun. Walker grinned, and snapped his fingers, the motion finishing with his thumb and forefinger in a finger-gun position. Instantly, the gun burst into flame, and the metal was heated. Before he could even fire, the thug dropped his weapon, cradling his burned hand.

I’m disappointed in both of you
Don’t hold your breath for me
But watching you turn blue would be comforting

The gang members had been stunned into inaction initially but once the gun fire began they kicked into action. Pistols and illegal firearms came up and bullets sprang forth. There were now two attackers on their gang turf. Where one bullet failed to kill the woman they tried instead for several dozen, hoping to overcome whatever esoteric defense she had by pure weight of numbers. When a man arrived on the scene and started to attack them from another direction everything turned into chaos. Several of the thugs turned in his direction, hoping to loose a wall of led in his direction and reduce him to bleeding giblets.

From elsewhere another pair of eyes was watching in the shadows, out of direct line of sight and concealed among the rooftops, looking down on the ensuing chaos. A few buttons ensured there would be no police arriving on the scene, at least not for several minutes longer than normal...and normal was close to fifteen minutes as it was.

From among the thugs emerged a man who was closer to mountain than man, standing well over seven feet tall with huge arms. He wielded a make shift weapon that had once been a piece of steel re bar but a series of razor wire had been wrapped around it. He strode straight for Walker, roughly shoving some of his own men to the ground as they got in the way. He walked forward, raising the bar and made a huge sweep with his titan arms. Muscles flexed, veins bulged and the bar moved for the side of Walker's chest so fast it was a blur of motion. If it struck, the bar could crush bone, cut apart flesh and expel the air from Walker's lungs.

The blow came fast enough Walker didn't even have time to react properly. Not that he could have really stopped it in time anyways- he was almost entirely bereft of defensive abilities, save for creative uses of 'setting things on fire.'

The force of the blow sent Walker sprawling across the room, skin cut up, bruises already starting to form. "Motherfuck that hurt," he bit out, while examining himself for serious damage. He noticed quickly a nasty-looking cut on his left arm, and grimaced. With a quick snap of his fingers, he conjured a flickering flame on his fingertip, and pressed it to the skin, cauterizing the wound. His power prevented him from fire, but it wasn't a pleasant sensation, cauterizing a wound shut.

Well, I could actually fight this asshole, but that's probably a waste of energy. Better to just be... efficient.

Walker clicked his fingers again, with the intention of lighting the man's shirt on fire- t would hurt, but if he removed it fast enough, he would escape serious damage. To do that, he'd likely have to drop his weapon, allowing Walker or Alezra an opening to take him down.

Of course the idiots would just go for more guns and firepower, more wasted ammunition. "Yeah gun down a ghost fucking brilliant." Of course Alezra knew she was not the strongest person to walk the earth. In theory catch her unaware and a bullet would still splatter her brains along the floor, she also wasn't going to be throwing cars or leveling a building with a single explosive energy blast. She did however have a lack of fear from almost any attack when in her element. A round aimed for her head and nothing her knee her chest none of it found her a slight mist trailing the bullets bath for a moment as it found a wall or near by car.

Then it came distance closed and her knife passed through a thug's hand. "Heh so you go both ways." He started to mock, then for a brief second she became real again. Her blade in hand took priority and so the blade pushed his wrist aside, a slight tug and a tilt of the edge to cut the last strand of flesh. A hand hit's the ground a wet slap as ichor runs along the blade, and then it flows freely again as Alezra returns to a ghost like figure. Panic and one thug simply looks to run away. Alezra only has a dumb hothead to worry about, theres no family to hunt or identity to protect in Alezra's mind so she lets the man run. He isn't going to change the world living or dead, just needs a doctor and might change his life style she'll let him be there's others however still with eyes on a ghost. They're not firing blind anymore, seem to catch on most shots are a waste.

She rushes in now still a dozen guns her way need to be quick, can't focus as much on being clean. She gets in close to a thug he's trying to steel himself time it just right. She drops into a slide to avoid the gunfire of his and another member, her blade digs into his shin before becoming like a specter again. Dropping to his hands and screaming in pain Alezra moves on, head for the closest just off to the left. Don't blink don't falter just get up close can't be influenced by what comes next. She only slows down when she is already there, her hand goes through him, then it's literally so. A whole in the body it's wet and she can feel her sleeves sticking to arm. Golden eyes briefly seem to look at the ground in disgust with herself "Maybe you get a good hit in. How many more would I though?" It's entirely possible someone might actually shoot her, that a gang of firearms might triumph over one broad with knives. Her point however was that they were also a family and more of them would be worse off for trying to keep fighting her. General consensus seemed to be of the crowd that they could stay or go. Some stayed and many left, three more gunmen looked at her still a shot going off and passing through her. The thug who had a fist sized whole in his body feinting.

Again Alezra rushed forward at the thugs her next subject had his back turned to a car, she materialized for only an instant a hand touching his brow. It almost failed to even be a slap, to have any impact because as soon as it touched skin she changed again. He became weightless and his eyes were wide with panic as he was carried through the windshield. She let go and just like that the glass had been semi broken. Shards were digging a bit in his collar and around his neck. Any movement could cut, shattering the glass was a danger, mix that with the sensation of being ethereal and he to was down. "Are you done?" She glared at the other two another bullet passing through her figure another thug dropped his gun the other was still stubborn. It was around then however more fire was going off a look to her friend revealing a rather serious cut. She didn't have time for this, full sprint to fill the gap and she placed a hand over the barrel as she looked to seemingly poke the thug's forehead. A bullet passes through her hand but her finger fracture's his skull. Finished she turned toward the towering figure and rolled her shoulders her grip tightened on a knife helping slow the bleeding and otherwise resisting the pain. She'd weathered worse.

"I just want the boss. Don't make me go through you." Something about her predatory eyes and way she occasionally looked back to Walker suggested she might literally do just that. How much was ripped apart from that not as much of a factor to the ghost. She tried to keep killing to the minimal but she could only try for so long.

The man's clothing caught on fire and he absolutely panicked. The fear of burning alive caught hold of his psyche and he tore his shirt away in a frenzy of destruction that shredded rather than removed the blazing garment and left its smoking, smoldering tatters all over the ground around him. He quite obviously dropped his weapon in the process. He moved again to pick it up when the woman challenged him and called for his boss. Then...things changed. He hesitated.

Image

"Is that what you want?" Her voice came out of the shadows and a street lamp that had been dark lit up to reveal the woman playing with her whip. "It's always hatchlings." She said to herself and waved with a dismissive hand towards the huge man. He picked up his weapon and backed away, his skin hot and blistered.

"You don't know the boss though. What if the boss is some sort of time siphoning crazy, or a giant planet eating robot? You're just..." She breathed. "Hatchlings. How much information did you have before you two came blazing in here anyway?"

She turned to face them, whip still in her hands. "There's a storm coming, it's already starting and when it breaks, the world is going to change again. It's going to need people like you, or at least, people willing to step up and do something." She let go of the whip with her other hand and the coils dropped to the ground, energy sparking from them. "But how do I know if you're the right people? Thugs are one thing...villains are another. This isn't the comic books. I'm curious to see what you can do."

Her whip suddenly snapped to life, though she had yet to make an offensive action with it. The neuro-weapon arced and coiled around on the ground like a serpent ready to strike, energy arcing and dancing menacingly across its surface. "Because I'm so tired of the false promises and the people that run away at the first sign of something good...or of something that might be the slightest bit challenging. Peace has made Humanity soft."
Tellingly to those with the right attention to detail all of the woman's lethal weapons, such as the obvious pistol on her hip, remained quite sheathed.

"Let's see if you're capable...and then we'll talk about your lack of information."

"Hatchlings?" Walker laughed. "Guess we're fighting a reptilian. A condescending reptilian, at that."

A flame began growing in the center of Walker's hand. It seemed to solidify, into a metal staff still wreathed in flame, which he held like he knew how to use it, a skill not particularly common among teenage ex-cons.

"We're not here to be super-heroes, lady. I'm not going to put on a tights and start calling myself Supra-Man. I'm doing this because our damn society wants people like us-" He gestured to himself and Alezra. "-to go away. Their Age of Peace is build on the foundation of fucking internment camps for meta-humans. And when it's staying in your cell for the rest of your life or burning the damn system down and building something better..."

The black-clad rebel swung his weapon out, covering a wide distance, but it was an attack likely easy to dodge. He was testing the metaphorical waters, intending to find out exactly how good this woman was, and what level of force would be appropriate.

A nice touch of theatrics which the ghost could appreciate and there was even a point behind the remark. It was also a point that hinged on the improbable however Azra felt. Sure things could be bad or walking into the unknown, but stalling for answers wasn't always an option either. How much information did they have? Enough to know there was criminals and corruption and at her core Azra found that to be all she needed. Talk of storms but Azra felt that all the preparation in the world would only make the world come undone at the first sign of error. To much caution would only plead into a weakness of overconfidence. A challenge seemed to be made within the lecture leading the ghost to sheath her knives and instead rest her hand upon the hilt of her sword.

The whip cracked and seemed to dance of various dangerous means. None of which seemed to abstract however, to be of a magnitude that might get around her dominant ability in any given fight. The woman looked the superior being if Azra was to be honest but it was very hard to hurt what one couldn't hit. Her friend called the mysterious woman a reptilian which admittedly got a smile from the snow haired ghost. Amused at the idea of the famous illuminati conspiracy being a foundation that hired metahuman bdsm. At the core though his words in a way spoke for both of them, somewhere behind the pretty facade of peace was simply shutting down possibilities and weaponized fear. Azra didn't know if she was a hero just knew the world needed more then the illusion cast before them.

"It's Good to be informed, to much information breeds a cockiness however. Sometimes it won't even matter as information is bad, but stagnation is always worse. To be honest much as I loved hearing about heroes I'm probably going to be haunted by other titles instead. Things have to change however."

With that she withdrew her sword and sprinted forward a misty glow a bit around her as she began to become transparent. A mirage of a person, not a sound came from her steps the wind unchanged despite her movement. She wasn't there and as she got nearer she remained so looking to force opposition off guard. Couldn't block what wasn't there so odds were some form of dodge would be used a side or back step perhaps. It was then she briefly would take on a material form looking to lash out against the opponents back. To rend a gash near the small of the back or at least test the armor, and then she'd seek to return back to a spectral being.

She cocked her head at the mention of internment camps, taken by surprise by information she herself was lacking. For a moment Xae wondered what else she might have missed and was forced to admit to herself that after shutting down Unity she had allowed some of her information gathering services to fall by the wayside. Apparently enough that something significant had fallen through the cracks. "Internment camps?" She asked aloud.

Xae moved with inhuman speed, not blinding fast but with a grace, dexterity and reaction time far and above what an ordinary human could muster. Her three hundred and sixty degree vision allowed her to track both targets at the same time without diverting too much attention from either one. Determining the female to be the least threatening in the immediate term she chose to react to the staff attack first. The staff attack was a clear probing attack and so she gave it as little information as possible and swept her arm up to meet it, allowing the bo-staff to strike her armored forearm and be deflected off to the side and away from her body.

The staff impacted with significant force and the layers of her armor reacted accordingly. Much of the force diffused through the layer of vibranium weave that made up the kinetic absorption component of the so called "cat suit" that far too many people over the years had assumed to be simple leather. There would be bruising, but a probing attack at limited strength and with no desire to cause significant injury simply would not get through the armor's defensive qualities in any significant way.

The female's attack was different, more esoteric, less probing. She judged her to be the more aggressive of the two and waited until virtually the last moment to defend against it. From watching the two against the gang and from watching the female approach Xae had determined an attack would require a moment of physical presence in the material world. A moment was what she needed. She waited until she felt she could judge the incoming attack and responded with the dexterity of an apex predator evolved to hunt with a combination of speed and nimbleness. She pivoted on her foot to turn a rear attack into a side attack and swept her arm down, turning the arm she had used to deflect the staff down and around to her side to block the incoming physical assault while her other hand remained deceptively free.

The whip lashed out in the exact same moment, it snapped on its own, a tiny flick of her wrist allowing it to try and wrap around the female's now corporeal legs with serpent swiftness. The impact of the whip, should it hit, would prove mostly harmless...the series of neural probes and toxin hooks built into its fabric, however, would be a different story. If the whip hit, even grazed her target with the slightest of touches it would send focus obliterating agony burning through her target's nervous system from the legs up.

Because Xae had waited so long to react to the female, focusing her attention instead on the male, her second deflection was not perfect and the strike landed a glancing blow. Slicing attacks had always been the weakness of the armor and the first layer was cut on impact, revealing to both attackers that it was not impervious, it did not, however, penetrate through the other layers.

"Quit holding back." She chided the both of them, irritated at their change in demeanor, she had hoped for the same brutality they had shown the gang, not this soft footed, almost cautious approach. The male, judging by his expert swipe of the staff, had considerably more skill with the weapon that he was letting on and it irked her endlessly that he would refuse to tap into that ability for even a moment. She was a fan of the bo-staff, such a weapon was difficult to master and required both agility and a sharp eye for combat. It was also difficult for many opponents to defend against. He had clear range superiority if she were forced to use her claws or hands and she was confident that if he stopped holding back, she would find herself forced back by his skill into a much more defensive posture.
