Order of the Dragon Slayers

Post by Snake Eyes » Mon Feb 13, 2017 8:32 pm

Far up north of the Blessed Lands, resting on top of the highest peak in the Temerian kingdom, stood Gra'al Vaeren, the ancient fortress of the Draconic Order - home of a group of specialist warriors dedicated to defending the weak from the dragon menace.

~Hierarchy~
Order hierarchy is by no means strict. Rather, the oldest warrior is the most respected, while the ArchSaint serves as the feudal owner of the land and hold. Missions taken are assigned to a first come, first serve basis - or are given to the better equipped Saint.

+ArchSaint+
- Lord Alaric Dragonsbane a.k.a. "The Kinslayer"

+ProtoSaint+
- Second in command (Needs to pull something awesome off)

+Saints+
- Aldin
- Hal

+Wyverns+
- Brub

+Honored Guests+
- Nafiaus Vawn

Purpose of The Order
While the motives of the order were, and always will be, slaying the dragons threatening mankind, these days, the Saints of the order focus on hunting all sorts of monsters. Seeing as the financial standing of the order is what it is, they could no longer afford the luxury of picking contracts that suit them. With this in mind, an actual dragon hunt is somewhat of a rarity - and in the event that it does happen, it is a battle reserved only for the most experienced of slayers.

Hazards of the job lead to the average lifespan of a Saint being twenty five years, if they even survive the brutal training as wyverns. Still, men and women worthy of bearing such a heavy burden are well respected in all layers of the society.

The Blessed Lands
Traditionally, the feudal lord of the Blessed Lands was always the ArchSaint of the order, from it's founder Fellon, to the current Lord, Alaric Dragonsbane. People living under the wing of the fortified city enjoy special privileges such as not having to pay taxes, and not being targets of conscription.

The name "Blessed Lands" was given to mock the current state of the once prosperous and rich soil. Before the elder dragon Balgazarudin cursed the said lands with a thousand years of ice, the land that surrounded the castle was a lush forest, where animals were many, and where the soil was said to be so rich, that if you threw a button anywhere on the land, it would bear fruit a thousand times more. Now, the land is barren, with winters so cold that the only habitable place is the fortress city of Gra'al Vaeren. Surrounded by a frozen tundra, the people rely on mercenary work, and the income of The Order to sustain themselves. Likewise, a small mine of silver and sapphire is found in the very belly of the castle.

Training and knighthood
Typically, children begin training for knighthood at the age if eight, where they learn monster lore, basic tactics and combat. By the age of fifteen, the boy or girl is expected to show decent knowledge of monster anatomy, brew a healing potion and to excel at a weapon of their choice. Two of every ten become squires - also known as wyverns.

This period is limited only by the squire himself. Once the trainee feels up to the "Rite of the Dragon", a set of challenges is set in front of him. There are two results to each challenge, either success and admittance to the order, or death.

Once the rite is completed, and the Wyvern is still standing in his feet, the blooding will commence. This name is given to a magical ritual where the trainee bathes and drinks the blood of a dragon they had recently slain. This, in return, grants their body speed and resilience beyond other men. Likewise, on some occasions, magical power from the dragon is likewise transferred to the new saint.

Drakesteel
The bane of all dragonkin, this special alloy is magecrafted by the Sage Brunjolf, who lives as a hermit in the sealed portion of the castle. The metal is so rare, that only a handful of weapons exist today. Only he, and a student he will take once he feels his time is near will know the secret of creating this valuable metal. Due to the nature of the steel itself, no projectiles can be made. Once a dragonkin is cut with Drakesteel, they will begin to feel the effects in several moments. These include, but are not limited to, weakness, rapid tissue decay and death. A very, very painful death.

Gold miza
Gold miza are the currency of the Temerian kingdom. They take form as a gemstone coiled by a gold ring on which reads "United we stand." Various classes of golden miza exist, based on the type of the gemstone, one that is typically rough and uncut. Lesser miza are silver miza and copper miza. Like gold miza, silver miza contain a gemstone inside, although one typically of lesser value, or one that is flawed. Copper miza on the other hand contain no gemstones, and are most often used to complete low value transactions.
1 gold miza (GM) = 10 silver miza (SM)
1 silver miza (SM) = 50 copper miza (CM)

CHARACTER BACKSTORIES

Alaric Dragonsbane the Kinslayer
The man known as Alaric Dragonsbane, is one of the few half-dragons to walk the earth today. What more, he is a descendant of the Des'Sargoth line of dragons, the only known line of black dragons. Born as Des'Shazir, he would later leave the Queen of Dragons, his mother Nythera in order to succeed his father as head of The Order, only after killing him in combat.
Having taken a new name, during his many fights he had earned the title of "Kinslayer", as his fellow dragons would call him.

QUEST BOARD

Contract on: Wyvern - worth 500 gold miza

This beast has been terrorizing the people of Ironspeak mountains, stealing cattle and damaging trade caravans. Recently, it has grown bold and has been frequently attacking the nearby defenseless settlements. A Dragonslayer is requested to take care of the matter...

Contract on: Snow Troll - worth 450 gold miza

It appears that the beast has gone rabid, and has began attacking any who dare use the Kabrin road. It is important that the matter be dealt with quickly as the road is an important trade route...

Contract on: Fenrir Pack - 25 gold miza per wolf head

A sizeable pack of Fenrirs has been spotted not far from Northbarrow bay. While no hostile actions were preformed yet, the population is uneasy with their proximity. The local huntsman is offering 5 golden miza per each head you bring back.

Note: The order will take 10% of your reward money as a fee. All earnings are to be spread equally amongst the participants.

(The ArchSaint is the feudal lord of the land. It is a title granted not by power and achievements, but by succession. There is only one feudal lord.)

"And that's where we are headed!" Spoke the blonde knight as he stabbed a steel dagger on the conference table, where the yellowed-out map of the Westlands stood.

"With all due respect sir... What the hell!? You ruined my map!" Spoke out one of the younger saints, who was assigned to the fortress library.

Alaric clenched his gauntlet in front of him, a decisive smile spreading across his face. "Worry not, because with the gold we get from this quest, I'll purchase a dozen maps!" He spoke out, his voice filled with an unusual enthusiasm.

"Who is with me?" He asked loudly, gazing at the crowd of saints, expecting a booming response.
And so, they became strangers again.

A young redhead stood in the crowd waiting to see what would happen. After a few seconds of saints talking eagerly amongst themselves a smile formed on his face. He stepped forward stabbing his own dagger into the conference table with equal excitement as Lord Dragonsbane.

"I Nafiaus Vawn, will join you." he said proudly. "For a nice share of the profits of course..." he smiled even bigger.

He already knew this quest would be challenging, but he really only cared that once it was complete he wouldn't be able to walk with the weight of the gold in his pockets.
Celebrate the soul who dies in battle. Pity the warrior who has slain all his enemies.

Another person, this time a tall, bulky figure with a vacant smile on his face, stands up and walks towards the table.

"Me, Brub, will also stab map!" He pulls a steak knife out from one of his pockets and plunges it with such force into the table that the whole blade up to the handle is buried in the wood.

He shuffles backwards slightly, his grin looking like it would suit a small child more rather than a huge, hulking armor-wearing warrior saint that he was. He didn't know why other people were stabbing the map, but it looked like a lot of fun, so he had joined in.

Brub had formerly been one of the most promising squires, thinking fast in any situation and utilising his sharp wit. He had passed the Rite of the Dragon with flying colors... until he had reached the last challenge. The dragon whose blood he had used for the blooding ritual was very unusual, and by the time the senior saints had noticed their fault it was too late to stop Brub from completing his ritual.

The result had been... strange, to say the least. Brub's muscle mass had almost doubled, and he could perform feats of strength some of the other Order members could never even dream of doing. Unfortunately, it came with a catch. He had lost all of his wisdom and intelligence thus far, regressing into a child-like state of mind. Sure, he had turned himself into a kind of legend among the Order by fighting dragons and coming out the victor, but outside of combat...

"I have question," Brub asked with a confused expression. "Why we stabbing map?"

A young man with brown hair and a striking goatee steps forwards. His cloak shimmers from Black with Blue trim, to Yellow with Gold trim, almost mesmerisingly. He holds a staff that is just slightly taller than he is, with a crystal that glows dimly blue, with a hint of red pulsing in it, and a spellbook is tucked under his arm with a chain running from it to a place under his robes.

Image (too lazy to make this 100% accurate, this is just off of google images XD)

"Erm... A word, if I may. The map is not meant to be stabbed, it was merely to show the point we would be travelling to. Now, if we were to look at the map instead of mutilate it, that would be useful. Aldon Carsson, sorcerer and part time wizard's apprentice, at your service." The young robed man bowed slightly, placing his palms together. "Now, we know where but I must ask what are we looking for?"

Aldon was a recent graduate from squirehood, but his affinity for magic was great. Before his trial, he had already been quite skilled in sorcery, but now after being bathed in blood he is able to combine the two magics, and thus is now training under Gandruman The Blue as a wizard. His sorcery instructor, Saranap, is not pleased to say the least.
