"What we offer has been our policy on the matter without any of my personal input. And by your logic so to speak, you are asking us to protect a foreign diplomat, and a royal at that, your king had not granted protection to. That sign is a cause for worry and even more reason to abide by the policies that had been set in place." Draven did not falter in his explanation nor in his reasoning behind the sound judgment. His tone had stayed an even calm and his expression neutral as if tutoring an impatient child. If their kingdom had not granted protection while knowing of their hunters, why seek another kingdom they weren't allied with and with no prior relations on top of that?

"However this is talk most suited for the parties directly involved to be present, until then, Lady Conrad is to rest before she is to hold an audience again."

At that Laeroth nodded, quietly thinking, "they did not come to us, I fear that with some of the kingdoms their people are not completely trusting of my people. So making such calls is up to Princess Ilyana and we did not know of their situation before arriving at the Dragon Scale." His eyes suddenly went cold, ever since Arlayna's death Ilyana's father's policy had been to cut his kingdom off, it was his daughter who had managed to persuade him that they still needed more then just the alliance and trade of Liria.

A small smile appeared on his lips, "well, how about a deal then?" a hand going to the sword that hung from his waist his fingers gently putting his hand around the hilt feeling the jewels that were placed there.

Gielban had remained silent throughout the exchange, her eyes shifting from Draven and Laeroth in kind. She didn't trust herself to interject. Draven was handling the situation as well as she could hope, if not a little heavily-handed, and she felt in her tired state she'd end up doing more harm than good. However, the air quickly began to sour, backhanded retorts and glares all around. When Laeroth's hand touched on his hilt, she chose to step forward.

"You must understand, I have the interests of my people's safety at heart," she interjected, unconsciously placing an arm between the two men. "All we have to determine your merit is your word, but words are thin and easily spun. Why would we risk the anger of a powerful nation, certainly much more formidable than our own, to protect the interests of individuals we barely know ourselves? Why would we risk war for it?"

Gielban sighed, again kneading at the bridge of her nose. She was trying her best to maintain a level tone, but the mess of the day, combined with her quickly returning headache, did little to help her temper.

"I will not risk the well-being of my own country by inviting the domestic disputes of another to my doorstep. I will give your party sanctuary and protection, but I do not intend to wage battle for some other leader's civil unrest. That is my judgement, take it as you will, and that is final."
Alone she drifts from ancient mists
Nary a candle, nary a wish
But in the wont of wandering paths
Through wooded knolls, and windworn crags
She seeks a face she thought as friend
But now -- she thinks as judgement's end

Lareoth closed his eyes sighing, "then if that is the case they will stay at the Silver Crown until they depart whether it be a few weeks or until the war in their land is over." Shaking his head sighed once again, putting his fingers to his temples not sure of what to do. "Well then let them come and speak to you on the matter, plus we do not need sanctuary or protection, we are here on business as well as creating more trade and expanding our alliances." Laeroth looked at Gielban, "they were being invaded by their enemy who says that our kingdoms are not next." his voice questioning.

He had lived long enough to see his kingdom invaded or at least tried invading their kingdom.

Draven surmised that Laeroth was challenging him to duel then and there however he felt the elf held no power over him to make any deals to be bound to. He did casually place a hand on the hilt of the sword attached to his hip as well though not to draw its blade. His intention was only to react and defend if Laeroth dared to draw his sword on palace grounds and will only then draw his blade in defense of his charge. He would let Lady Gielban speak as the next thing he would have said would no doubt tip the balance toward a rather physical altercation.

"I believe her highness, Princess Valeria is more than capable of choosing her lodgings on her own. She is, after all to my understanding, not your charge. The meeting shall be hosted this evening." Draven concluded and mentally checked to send word to Kadnissa to have her and Queen Alexandoriel to meet with them for dinner, a feast for the queen's great deed in handling last night, and following that with the royals. As for that last statement, kingdoms are always invading kingdoms, it's a looming threat that comes with growing power and they knew this all too well, hence the needs in making treaties and allies.

Laeroth nodded, "yes of course," He gently messaged his temples, looking at Draven. "Then should I send word to my lady to come to the palace my groom is outside and can quickly go and get her." Smiles, "since you will not meeting with my princess until after dinner, my princess and company will find a place to eat before coming to the palace." Removing his hand from his sword hilt, looked over at Gielban. He put a hand in his pocket feeling the piece of cloth that was there. Before bowing his head to Gielban, "I will have the gifts brought for you as well Lady Conrad."

Glancing over at Gielban, "then i only have one request before I return to my lady, it is that to have a guide while we are in the city, as they would know the city better then us, perhaps a guard?" his eyes turning to look at Draven briefly before looking over at Gielban while he what for her response.

"I... can't exactly recall who the woman was, nor would I know of anyone who would," Mathieu stated after a brief moment of consideration towards Rowan's inquiry.

"If I were you, I'd start questioning those that were on the guest list of last night's ball— get testimonies from witnesses and the like. Alternatively, we could try and catch up with the guard party if you've known where they've traveled; I could recognize the voice and appearance of the man, no doubt." The old knight's suggestion turned bitter as it continued, his hand subconsciously drifting down to the numbed injury he'd sustained upon his leg.

"If you need my services to assist in the investigation, I'll be glad to lend them."

"That will do," Gielban said quickly, nodding her head. "I will have Draven inform Rowan. He is the captain of our city guard, and can do well to find a suitable escort. Now-"

A slight stumble in her walk back to Draven's side, hopefully one that neither side had caught.

"If you will excuse me, I have pressing matters to attend to."

As soon as the last pestering visitor had departed, she slumped against Draven's side, half-leaning, half-laying against him.

"I am to bed." It was spoken like a command, but all the fire in her eyes were gone. Only a deep-seated weariness, masking a deeper worry, remained. "Will you... stay with me?"

Laeroth bowed his head gratefully, "thank you Lady Gielban." A small smile graced his face as he turned on his heal striding back in the direction that he had come. Reaching the doors took a deep breath, for the most part he had been successful. Pushing the doors open went to his horse taking the reins from his groom, quickly tossed them over the geldings head before putting his foot in the stirrup quickly mounting. Looking at the groom smiled, "come on we must inform our lady of our news and also make sure she is alright."

Rowan sighs for a moment, thinking. He would have to track down some of the attendees from the ball. And he didn't know exactly where the party was headed, just that they were tracking a pair of suspects. Sighing again, he sees the old man's hand moving toward his leg.

"I couldn't ask that of you, Sir Trossier," he says. "You are still recovering from your wound. As I have no idea where the tracking party is, other than their general direction, I will have to search for whatever witnesses I can find." With a slight bow, he adds; "Thank you for your time."

He begins walking toward the door.
