The New World: Deadlands

Post by CrashJr » Tue Jul 17, 2018 11:23 pm

The bombs hit so suddenly that no one knew what happened. Most of the major cities on the West Coast were go within seconds and the only reports that came were from Youtube videos showing the chaos. Just as our government was just gaining a handle on things, well, that was when the second set of bombs hit. New York, Atlanta, Miami, DC, all hit so suddenly and that was when shit really hit the fan. Looting, riots, the "civilized" free world crumpled and normal everyday people became worse then those changed. The Mutated people are what came from the cities and they began to hunt those that aren't mutated.

There are three types that we've been able to record. The Stalker, a slim and fast mutated person that, as it's name says, stalks people that are alone or are injured. Although stalkers will hang back from groups from 3 or more. Then there's Lurkers, they are tougher to deal with mainly because they are in groups. Finally, you have the worse ones, The Brutes. These fuckers are larger then humanly thought possible, it's as if during the nuke several people were fused together. It's best to avoid all three if possible, but the thought is moot simply because they roam and follow the bandits and anyone else.

It's now been a two months since N-Day, we have a small group "surviving" here on a old military base turned into a trade school that now is a place we call home. This place was know as Earle C. Clements Job Corps Academy or that's what the broken sigh at the beginning of the main road said, the nearest city is some tiny town called Morganfield, KY.

Closing the journal and hoisting herself off the the top bunk of one of the dorm rooms on the campus. Landing on her one leg still did give her some trouble but she was getting used to it as the days went on. Turning and looking to the corner of the room, huddled up in her walk in locker, was Zoey. She seemed like a nice girl at one point but since meeting her until now Jamie saw the rapid decline in her will to live. It was as if the girl had just given up, but now wasn't the time to dwell on the thoughts and feelings of the other girl, no it was around midday and she would be late in calling the meeting for the rest of the group.

Grabbing her journal from her bed set it on the bottom bunk that had belonged to Zoey, but since she had began to sleep in her locker at night she'd offered the bunk to one of the others. Stopping for a moment to sit on the side table she quickly put on her prosthetic leg and made her way from the room, "meeting in five in the common area" she calls back to Zoey before exiting the room. Looking down both ways on the hall she shook her head at the thin layer of dust and dirt that was beginning to build around the hall, if only her Sargent could see this place, she thought.

Beginning to walk down the hallway she stops before passing by the bathroom and talking a look inside, "Meeting in five minutes" she calls out to anyone that maybe taking a shower in one of the four shower stales. Ducking from the bathroom and finally making her way into the common sitting area between the four wings of the building, each with five rooms and a bathroom. She opens her journal and stands behind an old looking wooden stand. Reading over a list of things she nods before looking down either wing to her sides then raising an eyebrow to the wings on the far end of the sitting area.

With a sigh she cups her hands together and calls out in a booming voice that she knew the whole of the building could hear, "GROUP MEETING IN THE COMMON AREA NOW!" her words were met with silence for a moment before finally she did notice Zoey walking from their wing and having a seat in the corner of the room away from everyone else. She gave a small nod to the younger girl before checking their names off for the meeting.

Zoey had awoken early that morning and was glad that one no else was awake, as she was able to sneak out before the sun came up and went to check out the other dorms and building on the campus. Sure enough she was able to come up with several packs of Ramon noodles, about a weeks worth of chip baggies, a lot of small baggies of weed and at least a 12 pack of soda's of different brands and flavors. All this within just one dorm, which thankfully wasn't to close to the dorm that they were calling home for the time being so she was able to stash the duffle bag of supplies within the ceiling panels of the dorm.

"Okay so that's..." she pulls out a paper with a few things written on it, "four full duffles that would give me...a month to a month and a half of supplies if I ration...just another half month and I'm gonna head out" she nods to herself. She'd decided on doing so nearly a week or two ago once she began to give up hope with the group that had formed. Yes they had just managed to survive, but she couldn't take the chance of everything falling apart. So now she was quickly rushing back to the dorm to get back to her locker so as not have anyone think twice about her.

She let out a small breath as she quietly entered the building and made her way down the hall, but as she entered the room she noticed Jamie on her bunk writing in her journal. She just walked over to her locker and laid down in the makeshift bed on the floor of the locker and closed the door slightly. She began to go over her plan as she noticed Jamie slowly making her way off the top bunk and leaving after putting on her fake leg. A few moments after she called out about that fucking afternoon meeting.

Zoey gave a sigh and left the comfort of her locker to go to the meeting.

Cassi had tossed and turned, something she was coming familiar with as nightmares plagued her nights. Cassi was up before the sun, sweat dripping down her face as she laid on the bottom bunk in the dorm room she shared with her twin sister, Calliope. Slowly she made her way from the bed, as she stumbled into the bathrooms her stomach twisted as the nightmares played back in her mind, before Cassi knew it she was on her knees in front of a cold toliet, her dinner being released into it.

After a few moments the woman pulled back and flushed it, as she breathed in and out slowly she sat there for a few seconds before she got up, making her way into a shower. As the warm water ran over Cassiopeia, she leaned back against the wall she enjoyed the feeling and silence. However it didn't last long when she heard Jamie yell into the bathroom about a group meeting. Sighing she turned off the water and climbed out, finding a towel she dried herself off quickly before pulling on her clothes, knowing she would have to be fast, she hurried before rushing out and into her dorm.

-----

Calliope woke up to the door opening and closing, as she sat up slightly she looked down at her twin, before flopping back down,"Ugh.. this is too early,"she grumbled before she kicked the blankets off herself, as she hung her feet over the top bunk she looked around for her pants,"Where.."

Cassi threw them to her with a small smirk,"Maybe next time don't drink so much?"she teased before she looked at the small bottle her sister had found, before looking back at Calli,"Come on hurry, meeting starts soon!"

Calli made a face before she hopped off the bunk bed, as she landed on her feet she sighed before pulling on her pants. After she was done, she looked at Cassi,"Well come on,"she nodded towards the door before taking the lead.

-----

Castor groaned when Jamie's voice boomed through the dorms, as he slowly got up from the bed he had passed out in he rubbed his eyes. Slowly the last twin emerged from his room, heading into the area where everyone else waited, as he made his way he spotted his twin sisters up ahead, quickly he made his way up to them,"Morning,"he said with a yawn and a stretch as he walked beside Calli.

Lydia had always liked to keep herself busy. She was always twiddling away at some computer, or creating some type of useless machinery - just for the hell of it. Anything to keep her fingers occupied and her brain busy. So it wasn't much of a surprise to find her doing exactly that, even when the world was fucked. Granted, her lack of supplies posed a minor setback; though over the past two months, she'd been able to find some relatively interesting things. She didn't have Jake, her beloved child (also known as her laptop) - Lydia had to abandon him whilst running from the abominations. God, she hated thinking about it. No Jake, running, and monsters. It all reminded her of one of those video games she'd been obsessed with a few years back.

The woman sat on the floor, her legs crossed, her back hunched forward, and her glasses slowly sliding down to the tip of her nose. She sat completely still, moving her fingers ever so slightly, thus moving the tweezers, thus moving the wire. Her concentration would not be broken easily; not when the fiery girl came shuffling in, and not when Jamie's first announcement rang through the dorm room. Only when she spoke louder (ahem, yelled), so loudly that perhaps the building would collapse. Okay, maybe that was an exaggeration, but it sure snapped Lydia out from her daze.

The woman pursed her lips and sighed, before shoving her gadgets into her bag and making her first attempt to stand up. She was only successful after the third time. God, she couldn't even take on gravity. To her defense, she was damn hungry, tired, and her left leg was asleep.

As the blood rushed down to her legs once again, Lydia made her way to the common area. The tingling sensation of fire ants nipping at her calf continued, to the point of discomfort. Discomfort that could only be cured by a weird leg shaking, sort-of-dance-thing - to put it simply. It was scientifically proven. And if it wasn't proven, Lydia would.

It took a solid ten seconds before the feeling seized. And thankfully, by that point, more people had arrived. They wouldn't have to be subjected to witnessing such torture. Instead, Lydia splattered on a soft, completely natural smile, one that screamed 'I'm normal'.
What's the worst that can happen? Well... decapitation

In one of the smaller dorms on one end of the school, the desks and beds inside were scattered about and shifted to different sides of the room. There was some ripped fabric and thick stuffing scattered across the floor from the last group that was attending the school before the bombs dropped and dust that littered the sides of the room that weren't touched. It was one of the outer-most rooms in the building, so there were windows that looked out beyond the walls. Not that there was much to see.

One of the beds was pushed to one side of the dorm room, opposite of the door, and sitting on top of it with her legs stretched out on it was Addison. She had moved it so that it was against a wall and her pillow propped up against it; her backpack was sitting on the ground beside her. In her hands was her switchblade and a small chunk of wood that was broken off of one of the dressers after what she assumed was mass chaos in the room during N-Day. Around her person was sawdust and a half-empty bottle of beer that was far too warm for her tastes. Her tired eyes concentrated on the piece of wood she was cutting into purely out of boredom.

Beside her resting peacefully on the nearby bed was her good friend Patrick. His blonde hair was ruffled from tossing and turning in his sleep earlier and his limbs were stretched out in odd angles, but at least he was resting. Well, until Jamie started yelling for a meeting. The young man popped up from his slumber straight away and rubbed his eyes, finding specks of wood shavings on his shirt. He glanced amusingly at his companion and raised his brow. Patrick brushed the shavings off and gave a yawn as he rose from his resting place.

"Morning sleeping beauty," Addison said without giving him a look. "You slept for a while."

"Yeah...you didn't. I can see it." His eyes glanced to the bottle, but he didn't say anything about it. She knew he hated her doing that, but she didn't care.

"I couldn't. It's the fucking beds and mattresses and shit. They aren't comfortable."

"We could probably ask where better mattresses are. Y'know, if we actually decided to sleep with everyone else."

"You know I don't trust them."

Patrick sighed and gave a shrug. "Then don't complain. See what I'm getting at?"

Addison smirked and closed the switchblade, setting the chunk of wood down beside it. She glanced at the door as Jamie called yet again for a meeting and took a long swig from the bottle, finishing off the drink. Patrick picked up his bag and set it on his bed before going over to the door and opening it up, running his fingers through his hair to flatten it some. He turned back to see Addison placing her switchblade in her pocket and sliding off of the bed to follow him. "Let's go, Pat."

Patrick allowed Addison to slip past him just as Jamie let out a third and final resonating yell for a meeting, showing that she wasn't exactly joking around. He stepped outside the room and closed the door, watching Addison walk away as he did so. They had been friends for ages. Since then, he'd developed a strong crush on her. God, he'd never be able to tell her. With a sigh, Patrick jogged down the hall after Addison, slowing to a walk as he came alongside her. Within a few moments, the duo entered the common room, Patrick donning a kind smile of greeting as Addison showed nothing short of contempt towards the meeting they were about to have.

Justice and Anna where walking along the road that was leading them to their destination.

Justice was carrying a pack over his shoulder and he glanced over at Anna. "At the Job Corps there is probably some medical supplies there we could take. It would have to have a first aid room in there."
His jawline tightened when he thought that he only had 2 hours left till he could have a little dose of morefeen again.

Anna nodded as she also carried a pack on her back and ran a hand through her long red hair. "Wonder if anyone is inside it..."

The two of them came to the fence line and Justice got his wire cutters out and started slicing away at the back of the fence.
"If there is... we have to be on guard because they might not be to friendly."
