[RP] Fallout 4: Bloodlust (Excalibro)

Post by Gecko » Tue Jun 19, 2018 4:54 am

Under the soft pitter-patter of rain against a canvas tent, the sound of song broke through the darkness of the Boston woods. The tune possessed a hopeless, jazzy feel to it as the sweet sound of the man's voice claimed that everything was over. The radio crackled in and out due to the bad holotape that was inside of the Pip-Boy in which it played on, but it was better than nothing. Several feet outside the tent (accompanying the music) was a small fire that strained to stay alive against the rain, only to be dimmed by the rain, of course. It provided little warmth, and within a few minutes it sputtered out completely, something that wouldn't be missed to much.

"Dammit," whispered a small Irish voice from within the tent. Antionette Lawson, known by pretty much everyone as Tony, sat inside the tent with her arms hugging against her twig-like frame, attempting to give herself some extra heat. She had set up the tent after most of the downpour had started, and so now she sat in the cold of night with nothing but her Vault suit with the shining number 81 on the back and her armor to keep her warm, and a Pip-Boy to keep her company. She grabbed the back of her dark red her and pulled it back into a loose ponytail, then sighed. This was just the kind of situation that she hated getting to, the only one that would ever make her wish she was in the safety of her Vault. Climbing into bed with the Vault-Tec-provided blanket and being able to curl up into a ball to sleep...God, those were moments she missed.

Tony pulled out a rather dull and dirtied combat knife with her left hand and a can of pork 'n beans with her right and set to work on tearing the can open. Sure enough, the blade ripped through the cheap aluminium and exposed the contents inside. The green screen of the Pip-Boy flickered as Tony began to look through some old files within, seeing what kind of stuff she could mess with until she fell asleep. Sleep's grasp already seemed to have a hold on her as she gave a yawn and stretched her arms, momentarily forgetting that she had beans in her hand. Rather ungracefully, she spilled the beans onto her knee and gave a growl in frustration.

"Ahh, shite! I swear to fucking God...I have no other clothes!" Tony attempted to brush away the spilled contents, but it appeared as though it was to no avail. She spat and swore as she continued to clean herself off rather unhappily.

Jason had managed to get under the roof of a damaged shed in the middle of nowhere as the rain droplets that fell on his face had turned into a light shower. He looked around the small shed and noticed the ceiling was more or less intact enough to shield him from the rain. That satisfied him. Looking around he surmised that the square shaped shed without a door had only room for one, maybe two people. There was a small table with a handful of empty glasses of Nuka Cola and a dusty white cup on top of it, a turned off radio off in the right corner and a big square mattress on the floor to the left.

"This must be somebody's home." He muttered to himself before noticing that the thrumming of the rain on the tin roof became more intense every second. He turned around to take a peek outside. "I hate this weather sometimes..." He said with a sigh and shook his head, deciding to take a break instead. He removed his rifle and backpack and placed them next to the small table, then took off his hooded raincoat and hung it on the chair for it to dry a bit, then took a seat himself, deciding to resign himself to his bad luck when it came to today's weather.

He picked up the cup which stood on top the table and examined it closely, then placed it back in its place as if deciding against using it since it was dirty. He opened his backpack and rummaged through his belongings a bit before finally stumbling a plastic transparent folder which contained a few pages within it. He removed one of the pages, placed the folder back in his backpack and began reading it.

That single page of paper contained information on his current assignment. A scout from Vault 81, along with her name, price and a short physical description. On the far right corner of the page, one could make out a few scribbled sentences; notes that Jason had made from all the leads he had gathered during his investigation so far. His gut was telling him he was close to finding the target, which made it all the more frustrating that he had to stop now of all times and wait out for the rain to stop.

After reading the contents of the page one more time, his eyes darted above and behind the page and outside, as Jason checked on the rain for a few seconds, hoping it'd subside any moment now.

(Hey mattmalice! You must be new around here. You should go check out the rules in the Announcements area to get started. This is a 1x1 roleplay, so it's just me and Excalibro in this one. :) )

As Tony finally came to the realization that there would be nothing else to do for the whole bean issue, she huffed and grabbed the can of beans. Quietly, she finished off the rest of tin, scooping it out with a makeshift spoon that scraped the ridges of the can. Upon finishing, the young woman wiped her mouth with her sleeve and tossed the can outside near the dying embers of the campfire. Her belly still rumbled in hunger, but that was all she could provide for herself at the moment. There wasn't much food, hence the reason why she was heading back to the Vault. That and she just wanted to get a good night's rest.

The tape on the Pip-Boy gave a click as the track ended, and once again Tony was submerged in the sound of rain and the smell of beans. The patter of the raindrops seemed to be slowing, indicating that the weather was letting up a bit, though the cold still bit through. Tony shivered as she clamped the Pip-Boy on her wrist and crawled out of the tent to tend to the fire. If the rain was softer than before, then maybe the fire would stand a better chance this time. She pulled out a small box of matches from her pocket and swiped the first one against the box.

Nothing. She tossed it to the side and tried another one.

"Agh," Tony growled, "just my luck. Most of these are wet." The Vault-dweller shook her head and pulled the rest of the matches out of the box. Most of them certainly were damp, but she was able to pick out the one that wasn't. Thank God. That would've been a nightmare. She struck it against the box, and sure enough, it lit up with a spark and the faint smell of ozone. It ended up in the fire pit alongside some trash, leaves and sticks that Tony had gathered from nearby. The fire burned brightly for several moments before settling down to a comfortable level. Tony gave a relieved sigh as she held her hands out towards the flames, feeling the heat that came off of them. That was more like it! It wasn't much, but it was better than anything else.

"Finally!" Jason exclaimed after realizing that the rain was letting up. He grabbed his backpack, and placed the page with the bounty information inside its transparent folder, then closed the bag. He stood up and walked to the edge of the shed's door, then poked his head outside and looked around. "Rain's letting up...but still no sign of anybody here. Maybe the shack is deserted after all..." He thought.

Deciding it was time to continue on with his mission, he put on his raincoat, threw the bag on his back and picked up his gun. He glanced behind him for a moment as he stepped out the door, just to check if he'd forgotten something. After making sure he hadn't, he decided to head towards Vault 81.

The rain had almost completely stopped now, aside from a few droplets here and there and the cold wind had somewhat subsided as well. Jason was making his way while checking his surroundings for any wild animals, all the while avoiding line of sight with any potential settlements. He didn't want to stumble upon any raiders; better be safe than sorry.

On his way towards Vault 81 he caught whiff of a smell, as if something was burning. He stopped and sniffed more intensely. "Fire...it's nearby." He thought to himself and looked around. He caught glimpse of a dim, unsteady source of light off in the distance. "Lighting a fire in the dark...? Bad idea." He mused. Attracting attention to yourself and giving away your position in the night was dangerous. Only raiders did that because they were always traveling in groups. That, and them being stupid. Raider meat was a common delicacy in the commonwealth for feral ghouls and mutant patrols because of this.

Jason decided to check it out. If it was a group of raiders, he'd leave them be, if it were a single person, he'd have to at least offer a warning. He made his way towards the source of the light. He moved slowly and deliberately, trying to be as quiet as possible under the cover of darkness. After he got close enough, he crouched and tried to lower his posture as much as possible while hiding behind some bushes on the woman's left side. He took another peek and he noticed there was a person there sitting near the fire. Their silhouette revealed the person holding their hands close to their fire, the person was apparently using it to warm themselves. "So it is just one person after all...doesn't look like a raider." He lay on his stomach and crawled even closer.

After getting close enough, he could make out the person's details a lot more clearly. "A young woman, Vault Suit, Pip-Boy, red hair...no, wait, that can't be." Jason was starting to doubt himself now, more accurately, his luck. Did it turn around? Had he found his target out of the blue like this? He had to confirm. He still couldn't make out the number on the back of woman's Vault Suit. He decided he had to get closer to her.

Jason crawled backwards a short distance behind some bushes, then grabbed a few twigs as he still lay on the ground and began breaking them in order to draw the woman's attention while still staying relatively hidden. Hopefully that'd be enough to alert her to his presence without getting shot first.

As Tony settled in to the warmth of the flames, she heard the distinct sound of snapping twigs. Initially, it was dismissed as the crackling of the fire, but as the sound continued, it became abundantly clear that it was more than the fire making the sound. With great caution, Tony glanced over her shoulder in the direction of the noise and backed into her tent. She quickly rummaged around inside until her fingers grasped the cold handle of her .44 sub-nosed pistol. It was grasped tightly in the Vault-dweller's hand as she exited the tent once again, quietly observing the nearby brush.

In a crouched position, Tony moved forward to investigate. It could simply be some nearby animal coming to search the camp, but they usually tend to stay away from campfires. It had to be something more than that. Tony pulled back the hammer of the gun until it clicked into place, stern green eyes concentrating heavily on the bushes. Tony got close enough to the bush to reach out and begin pulling the leaves aside to expose whatever hid inside.

"Oi," she called out sharply, "who's there? I swear I'll put a bullet in ya if you don't show yourself. Then again, I might shoot anyways."

Jason kept breaking some twigs until he saw the woman get inside her tent. He threw them away and waited. He had obviously gotten her attention, as her body language had shown. It wasn't long after that she came out the tent with a weapon in her hand. Jason started getting nervous. He had no idea how the woman would react. She might even start shooting in his general direction. That would've been bad.

Fortunately, she didn't, which allowed Jason to relax a bit. The woman was getting closer to the bush and Jason decided to simply remain still and observe her some more. He had to make a decision. He could either back off now, and risk getting shot, or reveal himself and...risk getting shot. At that moment it dawned on him that his idea of playing hide and seek wasn't a very good one after all.

The woman kept getting closer and within a few moments she had reached the bush he was hiding behind. The bush was large and dense enough to hide him completely, and under the cover of the night, it'd be damn near impossible for her to see him unless she physically stumbled onto him. Jason still had no idea how to reveal himself without taking an unnecessary risk.

The woman spoke. Jason's luck had turned once again. She was asking who it was and that they should reveal themselves. That was Jason's chance, it was a small chance but it was better than nothing. He decided to take it. "Uh, hey, hello...don't shoot, don't shoot." He said and he slowly got up off the floor and on his knees. "Didn't mean to scare you. " He slowly pulled back the hood of his plastic raincoat, then stretched his hands out in front and a little bit to the side, keeping them away from his body, in an effort to show the woman he wasn't going to be aggressive, all the while making eye contact with the woman. "I mean you no harm. I just wanted to warn you, that fire is a bad idea." His blue eyes darted towards the fire for just a moment, pointing it out, before returning to the woman in front of him.

Tony paused as a voice came from the bush, kind of taking her by surprise. Normally, it'd turn into a full-out fight when someone was caught, but this person didn't seem to want to do that. Her brow furrowed as she attempted to figure out what he was playing at with this attitude, and all the while removing his hood as he explained himself. He gestured to the fire behind her as he spoke. However, she didn't move whatsoever. Once he finished speaking, Tony allowed herself a few seconds to silently observe him before speaking again.

"Do you have a screw loose or somethin'?" Tony lowered the pistol a bit so that it only pointed to his torso, ensuring that she would still have the upper hand if he tried anything. "That was your chance to kill me and take me stuff. What's your deal, man?"

While she gave her reply, Tony gazed at his belongings that were on him. He was a prepared traveler by the looks of it, considering how he had the raincoat. She didn't possess anything of the sort besides maybe draping the canvas tent over her shoulders if she really needed it. Even then. The man had a backpack on, but not much else. It made her all the more confused as to why he didn't just take anything. There was a possibility that he was some naive settler or something.

The woman didn't react after listening to him. She was obviously very suspicious and on edge. Jason was prepared for the worst. Maybe his luck hadn't turned after all. A long silent pause followed as the woman observed him all the while keeping him in her sights. Jason kept staring the woman straight in the eye, in an attempt to show her that he wasn't dangerous.

The woman then broke the silence, asking Jason if he had a screw loose and she lowered her weapon a bit. "Seems like she's willing to talk. Good." Jason thought to himself and almost cracked a smirk. He quickly composed himself however and kept himself from doing so. It may turn the situation worse.

The woman then asked Jason "what his deal was." Jason remained calm, hands still up in the air, his eyes locked with her eyes. He decided to repeat himself, in an attempt to convince the woman in taking heed of his warning; he was at risk now as well of course. "Like I said, I wanted to warn you. That fire is bad news. You'll attract Raiders, Ghouls, or worse..."

It became clear to Tony that he was trying to keep a level situation, and it kind of amused her. He was an oddball, the kind that she didn't often come across. It appeared as though his actions were genuine enough, though. Cautiously, the Irishwoman put the pistol in its leather holster on her hip, raising her hands to show that she wouldn't hurt him. After lowering her hands, she gave a smile and shook her head as he repeated his answer to her question, almost as if he were a silly child.

"I know the fire isn't exactly the best idea, but it was a cold night, eh? And besides, I think I can handle myself. I'd sure as hell kick your arse pretty easily, considering all that extra noise you made." Tony paused as some other questions came to mind. "Actually, how have you made it this far? You don't seem to do a good job of staying stealthy, y'know."

Jason exhaled softly in relief as the woman cautiously put her weapon away and raised her hands, showing she wasn't going to hurt him. Jason followed and lowered his arms as well, then slowly stood to his feet. He noticed she smiled at him and he was surprised to find that he kinda liked her smile.

He listened to her words, explaining that she knew the fire wasn't the best idea, yet she lit it anyway because it was cold. Jason squinted and took a breath; he almost opened his mouth in order to interrupt her. He thought she was just making excuses. He decided against it however and let the woman speak. He figuratively rolled his eyes in his mind when she said she was certain she'd kick his arse. Her accent made that sentence kind of cute and funny at the same time. Jason found the notion of her kicking his arse completely absurd however. He tried to compose himself as best as he could and not react to her boasting in any kind of way. He didn't want to offend the woman.

She paused and he pushed his thoughts in the back of his mind, then stared at her intently as she raised the question of how he made it this far, since she thought his stealth wasn't up to par. Jason came up with a retort which almost made him chuckle at himself then and there. He always found himself funny and the funny line he just came up with reminded him of that. He decided to compose himself for its delivery however: "Well, the fact that I'm not lighting up any fires, sure did help with that." He joked with a smirk as he looked the woman in the eye.
