Spellbound (Cookie)

So here you are. You, the runaway.

Leagues from home, and not terribly sure how you managed to stumble upon this forest, of all of them.

In hindsight, it made sense. Those who ended up in the Blackwood rarely intended to go there. The problem was that so few managed to leave.

It was an ancient forest, and many unfathomable powers lay upon the dark trees, seeming to cast deeper shadows and return hollow echos. It had a tendency to draw wandering souls, luring in the unwary. For Blackwood was not a place you wanted to find yourself, with no end of hazards hidden in its depths.

And you, unlucky you, has managed to stumble upon one such threat.

This just was not your week, was it?

It was not unlike the blonde to run into trouble; but never has she been in one of this kind. The princess was used to the guards around her, she barely had the skilld to survive in these thick woods. A scared whimper escaped her lips as she stood at the feet of a huge beast, easily three times the size of her. In no way had she intended to end up here. The princess knew little about self-defense, definitely not enough to fight such a monster of an animal. Like a deer in headlights she stood there, frozen in place as the huge thing inspected its prey, knowing she was absolutely helpless. It took her more than several seconds to realize that she had to run for her dear life if she wanted to survive. Her wings! The nymph smiled at the idea, looking up for a second, her hopes faltering. The leaves and branches were too thick, she could get nowhere that way.

Finally the blonde moved back one step, the another one - before dashing through the forest, jumping and occasionally tripping over obstacles. She tried evening out the ground in front of her with her plant magic, but instead it began becoming muddy and she squeaked as she began having trouble running, her feet sinking into the dirt, trapping her for seconds and giving the beast a big advantage as it caught up to her with ease. The princess was in too much of a panic to realize that the beast was toying with her, otherwise it probably would have eaten her already. Her plant magic was not gonna be very useful while the girl struggled to get free, panicked tears beginning to run down her face as she frustratedly tried to get out of the swamp she accidentally created. She was done for. Her wings fluttered a she was hoping to help herself move, but the beast had splattered mud on them, rendering them useless as they got hard to move, her feathers sticking to each other.

The creature, having finally rendered its prey immobile, gave a huff through flared nostrils, mud stained hooves clomping dangerously close, each on large enough to crush the small morsel before it. Closer up, one could see old stains that looked suspiciously like dried blood matting its far from pristine greyish white pelt. The creature pulled its lips back from needle-like fangs, hungry and finally getting tired of waiting. Just before it could dip its head and bite the winged nymph in half, a blur of white erupted from the trees to the thing's left, crashing into the side of its face with enough force to knock it aside and make the thing stumble, hooves trampling far too close for comfort, possibly even nicking the prone individual.

The white blur had latched onto the monster's horn, and as it stilled atop the thing's head, a humanoid shape became clearer. With a flash of metal, a knife seemed to appear in the figure's hand, made indistinct by the fact the beast was shaking it's head violently from side to side, trying to rid itself of the passenger. The knife was up, the came down three times against the thing's blood stained horn. Immediately, the unicorn reared onto it's hind legs, kicking at the air in a panic, black eyes blown wide as it let out a high screech.

"Yield!"

The voice rang out, sudden and growling, and without any warning, the beast's hooves crashed down. Its legs bent again, and the creature was on it's front knees, breathing brokenly through huge nostrils, but unmoving. Just like that, the woods were almost silent, the eerie calm of before returning as the figure turned, dropping off the monster's snout to the ground bellow with a quite 'tump' of impact. It was a woman, dressed in pale hues with even paler natural features, cobweb-like hair falling in a mess of waves around her. The tunic left her arms bare, the lithe muscle shifting under scarred skin with every movement as she straightened and sheathed her knife at the belt around her waist, high leather boots protecting her from the mud all around.

The woman's eyes finally landed on the nymph, gaze penetrating and searching. The unicorn let out a strained huff, but she didn't so much as flinch. Now that all was still, one could see the deep score marks the stranger had carved into it's tough horn, the lines forming what looked like a symbol. A charm rune.

"Who the hell are you." The voice was quieter than before, but no more friendly. The stranger crossed her arms, a deep frown pulling at her features, gaze never leaving the nymph, looking as though she was trying to burn a whole through the smaller.

The nymph didn't quite know how to react; one moment her life almost ended and in the next the beast was tamed, a stranger on top of it within mere moments. Tiyana did not, despite the stranger being her savior, feel safe- the woman seemed of the less trustworthy kind. The rune on the horn was more than enough to raise fear within the shaking princess once again. Did she have to answer? She didn't want to answer.. yet she was curious. Should she run or should she stay? Everything in her mind and body was screaming for her to get the hell out of there, but her legs and wings both resisted. Something flashed in the girl's eyes as rose thorns rose in front of her, using roots to try and get steady ground again. This.. was it a witch? The princess stood, her wings shaking off some mud as she tried to seem less shaken up than she truly was. In reality, she was hoping that the stranger would not attack her, the thorny bush creating a small barrier, it was all she could do at the moment. The princess had no idea how to defend herself, and she was still looking for a quick way out. Her brows furrowed as she tried keeping the act up.

"My name is Tiyana." Is all she could muster to say without stuttering or her voice shaking.

The stranger was completely motionless as the nymph got to her feet, the only movement that of her eyes as they followed her up. The stranger's concentration flickered at the movement by the smaller's feet, and she spotted the spiky wall. A snort left the woman, the noise distinctly unimpressed. Obviously she didn't think much of the attempted barrier. She still didn't move, calmly standing within inches of the agitated unicorn's gnashing teeth. The thing tried to stand, and the carved rune glowed faintly, some invisible power forcing it back down.

"That's bloody great." the woman drawled, "Who are you." The same question again. Evidently she wasn't satisfied with a name.

"More to the point, why are you here." Another question that didn't really sound like one. The woman's pale brows furrowed, as if she was trying to figure it out even before the other answered. The beast behind her let out another strained grunt, and the woman whipped her head, snapping her teeth in annoyance. The beast stilled, almost looking surprised, as she turned her attention back to the nymph at hand.

"It.. it's none of your business where I come from or who I am. I ran to get away from that life!" The Nymph snapped at the stranger, her concentration fading a bit. She let go the plants before her focus was lost. "So if you would please stop interrogating me--" she looked around, before simply dashing, hoping to outrun the pale witch. There was no way she could fight; she felt threatened. Tiyana came across a wide river, damning her messed up feathers. The only way over is.. through. She squeaked as she jumped into the icecold water, wading to the other side and wringing out her light dress as she kept running, looking behind her she didn't see the root sticking out - tripping her. What was it with the blonde being tripped by things?! Bad luck was following her it seemed. The nymph held her hand over her ankle for a second, a soft glow emitting from it before she could stand up again. A princess caught by a witch.. that would be worse than being held captive by a dragon!

The woman let out a gusty sigh as the small nymph tried to talk back. The squirt couldn't even subdue a unicorn and she was trying to act tough. She couldn't say she understood what the youngster meant by "that life", but didn't particularly care. The damn fool was running. A low growl of irritation rumbled in the woman's throat, and she took off after the clumsy nymph. For a forest dweller, this one didn't know how to navigate among the trees. With movements more akin to a predator than a humanoid on two legs, the witch darted between dark wood giants, bounding over the river with a murmured spell, feet landing on the rapids without breaking the liquid's surface.

A vice-like grip closed around the nymph's wrist before she could dash again, and the witch scowled, annoyance plain.

"It is my business, squirt. You intruded on my forest. Now stop dashing about before you trip your way into something's stomach." she snapped, pointed ears twitching. They weren't so long as an elf's but not round like a human's either. That sharp gaze glared into the girl's eyes, as if trying to convey her point, a lock of hair falling across her face. From the look of this one's clothes and appearance, she was a high ranker. Perhaps even a noble. Fantastic... how did a bloody noble end up in the Blackwood, and alone no less? The witch's eyes narrowed, though she didn't say the query aloud. She'd already asked before, and she wasn't about to repeat herself a third time.

"Leave me alone! I never intended to go to your stupid forest!" She screamed now, trying to get out of the woman's grip.. to no avail. The nymph didn't feel like exlaining herself to this creepy stranger trying to hold her captive. She didn't want to be trapped. She would be an easy source of money.. the king would pay amounts that seem endless for the princess to be handed back into the kingdom, and this blondie was not having it! "Just let me go!" The sharp glare was incredibly intimidating and she screamed some more. No doubt was she attracting all kinds of monsters with that behavior, but she wouldnt know any better. She was visibly shaking with fear, trying to get free with all her might. "You have no right to grab me like this! I wont come across you anymore, just get me the hell out of here! I dont need someone to get paid to bring me back to the kingdom! I dont want that fate!" She was close to tears again, determined to get the hell away from the kingdom, but this stranger was halting her.

"Crows." the woman cursed under her breath as the girl's struggles escalated. The squirt wasn't terribly strong, but if she kept thrashing and screeching like that she was going to do hurt herself. Or draw unnecessary attention. Or both. The witch tugged on her arm, dragging the smaller closer and clamping her long fingers around the lower half of the youngsters face, palm muffling her mouth. Hopefully the surprise would make the squirt quiet down for a gods damned minute.

"I really don't want to have to cast a curse of muteness on you, so shut it and listen." she growled, leaning down so her nose was inches from the girl's.
"I'm not tryin'ah take you captive or hurt you, so unless you want to draw everything with ears and set of teeth in this whole forest, cool it." Easing back, she didn't take her hand off her mouth until she was sure the girl wasn't going to try and bite her or scream again.

"I just-" she started, but something made the pale woman still, ears twitched. In the sudden silence, a low, distant thud. Then another. And another. The witch turned back in a sharp movement. "Shoulda known they'd sense the magic... crows and bloody carrion.... sard it!" Before she could really register what was going on, the witch unceremoniously bent and hoisted the smaller up like a sack of grain, and took off in a different direction than the way they'd come.

They dodged around trees and undergrowth, the woman twisting and ducking like she'd run this exact path a thousand times. It seemed only a matter of moments, but when they came to a stop, they were outside a wide cave mouth, and the woman was panting. Just as unceremoniously, she plopped the girl back down, leaving it to the nymph to find her feet as she tilted her head back to catch her breath, long hair settling back around her.

"I told you... to be quite... You woke the Golems." she breathed, using one hand to push her uneven bangs back. The stone golems of Blackwood were a bit... unique, in that they didn't have a master to command or animate them. It was as if the forest itself pulled their strings, and they always responded to unfamiliar sources of the arcane. They were dangerous, and fighting them off in numbers was a terrible... hassle, to put it lightly. Breathing evenly again, the witch eyed the small nymph. They must have been triggered when the girl made the ground a swamp.

The blonde was trying to get away from the woman's muffling hand before she was growled at. A fearful squeak escaped the princess's lips as she quieted down immediately, basically freezing in place as the woman spoke.

Her clear eyes were wide and she was holding back another whimper as the witch suddenly hoisted her over her shoulder with ease, sprinting through the thick woods. The horned girl was dropped to the ground again before she could even realize and process what just happened, landing on her back harshly. She gritted her teeth as her wings ached from the fall. With a bit of struggle she pushed herself back up onto her feet, examining her wings and smoothing out the feathers.. The witch had said that she had no intent to keep her captive or harm her, so what did she want?! Tiyana stood at a safe distance away from the witch, her wings fluttering nervously.

"Wh-what do you want." The girl finally forced out of her mouth, her pale skin stained with mud, as well as her clothes and wings. Damn it, she wished that swamp hadn't appeared thanks to her failed attempt at using her magic. The princess was standing in a elegant manner, a hint at where she came from that she didn't even notice.
