Pain exploded in Haven's leg as she pulled up from the floor. The creature, now limp, fell off her and onto the floor, that was last thing Haven seen before she was basically dragged out of the store by Miller,"Fuck.. me.."she groaned, just as she heard the loud screetch come from behind them. Haven's head snapped in the direction, her heart began to skip beats as her eyes searched the darkness for anything, a shadow or movement, something to let her know where the creature was. However sge didn't see anything, the sound was the only thing giving away the creature.

As Haven turned back to Miller, another one followed, but closer, without having to be told Haven decided to call it a night before they both became someone's meal tonight,"Austin... we need to go.."she whispered, fear filled her voice slighgly as the previous attack flashed in her mind, if one could do this, what could a group of them do? She didn't want to find out that was for sure.

----

Joey felt the cloak come around her, enloping her warmth, as she looked at Sinclair she gave her a small smile,"Thanks... but you might get cold..."she pointed out, as she spoke smoke came from her mouth, a sign that temperatures were dropping by the minute,"we need to find somewhere warm, or start a fire soon, we should be close to the road by now so if anything we can stop or keep going but it's going to get colder, nuclear winters are unkind I hear.."she muttered as she looked between the two girls,"your call,"she said to the both of them, they had been walking for some time, but Joey didn't mind she hadn't gotten out much since finding the military camp. She had mostly stayed coped up in the tent while the other two did most of the work and runs for their small trio.

"Shh.." Austin demanded as he pushed Haven behind him, turning the light off on his flashlight as he put his.palm against the wall behind them. His back was pressed against Havens chest as he held the gun up with his other hand. "Dont move..the respond highly to movement.." miller whispered ad he heard the dragging footsteps of the creature. The low gurgling growl of the beast filled the ailent room as it stepped in front of the pair. All miller could aee what its outline, his breathing shallow as his heart raced at the sight of it. A small crash outside alerted the creature as it halfass trotted out of the building to reunite with a few others of.its kind. "Move low and quickly.. dont make any noise.. go out the back and head towards the car. Ill meet you there once i make sure they wont follow.. if i dont reach you in five minutes you haul ass.. go.anywhere..if you leave without me.. dont go back to Eden.. dont be scared.." Miller spoke softly, turning to look at Haven as his hands soflty rested on her two arms. Miller could feel Havens breatb on his neck.as he pulled her into a hug, squeezing her for a second. "Go find Will.." he told her in a hushed voice before nuding her towards the back. Miller pulled the second listol from his boot, getting ready to face the suicide mission.

--

"Fuck you Will!" The sound of Havens voice echoed in his head as he stared at the glass globe. The sight of dissappointment plastered on the woman's face was burned into his mind. A sigh escaped his mouth as leaned his face onto the wheel, letting his body limply leab against the van. A shaky breath eacaped him before his hand slid across his face, wiping the water collecting around his eyes. He thought of Leo, David, sin, Joey, Monroe.. the ones who didnt make it. It wasnt fair. But then again, they were the lucky ones. He was cursed with having to live with their deaths. Alive to suffer through the hardships of the new world. A small cough escaped his.mouth as he sat vack up in the seat, looking out the windkw towards the fire and the others.

Haven's breathing was slightly jagged from fear and pain, as the creature passed by Haven held her breath until it went back outside to join the others. As Austin turned to her and told her to get moving, Haven was about protest when Miller pulled her into a hug. It almost felt like he was saying goodbye to her, but Haven pushed that thought to the side,"Be careful please..."she whispered, her arms found their way around him as she returned the embrace.

As she pulled away she gave him a brave face before turning away, with a small sigh Haven ducked behind the shelves and quickly made her way to the back. As she pushed her way into the night, Haven's speed picked up. The young woman limped towards safety, her gun in one hand as the other pressed against injured one to control the bleeding.

It didn't take long for Haven to catch sight of the car, behind her she could hear another screetch fill the night.

Mia beamed when Joey actually listened to her and with a nod she spoke with a confident tone, "I promise I won't run off again...and if I do...well I think I can survive" she laughs lightly before watching Sin give Joey her cloak. It was a slight surprise to her as she never had seen the older woman do something selfless like that before, but she wasn't going to call her on it now, no they had more important things to worry about.

"So are we going or what?" she ask turning and walking a few feet ahead of the two. It was slightly odd, but she felt that having Joey actually commend her on the find of the mud maybe helping against Nukers that she felt more at ease with the two and in a weird way she felt like they were a family. A small smile began to hint at the side of her lips as she thought of the two being like older sisters to her, it was a weird thought yes but it was something that felt pretty good to think about.

The sound of distant gun shots rang out, however, causing Mia to turn back to the woods. That was odd, she thought, there shouldn't have been anyone hunting this late at night. "Sin...do you have a map?" Mia ask turning back to Sin and Joey for a moment feeling a little bit of an odd prick in her stomach, as if those gun shots was someone in trouble.

Once grabbing the map from Sin or Joey, she didn't care which, she glanced it over. She was an amateur at reading maps but she knew just enough that they weren't that far from a small town, which seemed to sound that was were the gun fire was coming from. Looking up to Sin and Joey and held a begging look, "Okay look I know I really shouldn't have a say so in what all goes down here, but what if someone is in trouble in this town." she points to the town on the map before continuing. "We can go and save people, or go and scavenge what remains of them...it's not to far off from were we were going anyway" she shrugs looking between the two older women.

It seemed that just as Mia finished distant screeching could be heard, and a quick look at the map caused Mia to nod knowing that the sounds were coming from the town. "We can be there in two hours if we rush" she nods.

Sinclair felt her cheeks heat up just a tiny bit as she saw Joey smiling at her for giving her the cloak." I...I'm fine....hunted...cold weather...brother...cold...no bother.." Her voice had a tiny stutter at the beginning which she hoped neither of the two noticed. Thankfully it was dark enough that her burning cheeks wouldn't be visible enough. The young woman found herself shaking her head at her actions and her manner at the moment. Supposed to be helping not falling. Stupid Sin. Her gaze shifted and became more warm as she heard Mia speak up and ask what they were doing. The sniper pulled out her map and stared at it with what little light she to make out their position. Close to the road and not to far to the nearest town, if they kept going they should be.

Sin was the first to start picking up the gun shots, the frequency and by the sound of the rounds they weren't hunting. To late and to dangerous these days. When Mia asked for the she handed it over and pulled out the old hunting rifle with a scope. It wasn't safe to walk around not being armed especially if Mia had encountered a nuker. Her gaze shifted towards the other two as Mia spoke about helping or looting those that had been shooting." Help...Always help." Sin spoke with a clearer voice than usual as she used a tone that made it sound like there would be no buts about it. Before she found Eden she helped people, she kept them safe and helped them find supplies. Nothing would stop her from being that way...that's what she wanted to think at least. Like always when danger was near the young woman hurried in front of the two and made sure to stay in front. She wouldn't let anything happen to either of them, not on her watch. It made Sinclair smile oddly enough to have the desire to protect these two...to think, a few months back she had tried to kill Mia a couple times, now she was like family.
Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.

Miller took a deep breath, watching Haven limp away as she dissappeared im the dark. She would need time, especially with an injured leg. If one of them saw her it was over. Tip toeing, Miller snuck to the front of the store, stopping in his tracks when movement caught his eye. They were coming in the store.

One body, two bodies, three bodies. Three o them crept into the store entrance, the low gurgling frow echling through ths darkness. Miller could feel beads of sweat rollwing down his face as anticipation grew. He had to remain as stil as possible, but the former agent wasnt sure how long he couks hold his position. Hos eyes followed the movement as the creatures moves towards the back of the store, the gurgling growing louder. Now. Miller bolted through the front door, the windigos quickly turning to see a blur out the door. In unison they lurched forward, bolting towards the door and towards Miller. Three gun shots, a pained yell, another gunshot.. before silence fell again leaving an odd echo to ring out through the city.

Joey had heard the gun shots as well. Images of Lana being shot flashed before her eyes, as her face twisted in pain. But just as quickly as it came, the look disappeared and Joey was left with nothing bit silence. Until Mia spoke up about going that way and helping whoever was in danger, as she looked at Sin she waited for the woman's response, when Sin agreed to go help Jo knew she had no choice.

With a small sigh she nodded,"Alright let's go,"she said,"but if danger occurs and I tell you to run Mia, you run, no heros out here alright? That's how you end up dead.."Joey had lost her sister, and despite what she said when upset or in her moments of mourning, Jo cared about both of the girls. Shw didn't want to see anything happen to either girl, in a weird way, they had accepted her as family at her darkess moment and in return she did the same.

She wanted to protect what she had left to care for, Mia and Sin, and no matter what she was going to do that. As she began to walk again, she this time headed in the direction they had heard the gunshots come from.

-------

Haven had reached the car when she heard it. Three gunshots, followed by Miller yelling and then more gunshots, as Haven stood facing the car she let the sound ring out in the night before she opened the door and got inside, as she looked into the darkness, Haven held her gun tightly, she knew she couldn't wait forever for Miller, but also she knew she couldn't leave him behind to those things.

As Haven sat in the car, the only sounds were her labored breathing, and the thumping of her heart,Come on Austin.. come on..she thought as she kept her eyes peeled for any signs of the man.

River and Riley fashioned a sort of set up over the fire, before they were able to put the cans over it and warm it up. The first mystery can appeared to be a can of red chili beans, the second one they opened appeared to have corn. Then, while the two cans were warming, the twins heard Ami announce a deer.

River furrowed her brows and let out a soft sigh before speaking. "Don't shoot it. I think we should just leave it be. It would be cruel to kill the animal and not be able to preserve the rest. Besides... we have food here. We don't need to kill it." She explained with a definite nod, then after speaking, she finally looked back at the woman and tensed up waiting for the explosion about how she was stupid and wrong and blah blah blah.

While his sister was speaking Riley huffed, blowing some of the loose hair out of his face and then sat forward. He propped his chin up on the palm of his hands and then closed his eyes for a moment. Of course meat would be great. It would be better than beans and corn at least, but he couldn't argue with River. He had already forced her to go on this journey. So instead of speaking up... or signing up? He just sat silently, listening and waiting. And then if it came down to it, of course he would side with his sister and defend her.

"Fuck.." Miller breathed out, blood dripping over his hand as he pressed against the open wound on his side. Bite marks sunk into his side, unable to escape those things unscathed. Heavy breathing filled his ears, it took him a moment ro realise it was his own. Muller had managed to escape though, killing two of them and at lesst seriously injuring the other. Although he was still alert as the sdrenaline coursed through his body. Miller leaned hos head back against the brick wall he was slumped against, unbuttoning his shirt to use as a banage. Tightly he wrapped the white shirt around his wound, making sure pressure was on the bite. Before he stood up, Miller checked his ammo, 4 shots in each pistol left. Lucky. With a hard grunt he pushed himself to his feet, letting his hand drag along the rugged bricks to keep his balance.

It wasnt long before he had to stop, fatigue from the running starting to set in. As Miller rounded the alleayway, the headlights from Havens car lit up from a distance. Almost on que, a shadow rushed doen the street, hopping off the hood of an abandon csr, heading towards the car. "Shit.. shit.." Miller mumbles as he contenplated what he was going to do. He watched as the thing barreled towards the car, nerves jolting through his arms as he lifted the gun into the air, firing a single shot. As expected, the creature stoppes on a dime and turned around. It and every other living nightnare alerted of Millers location. "Just go!" Miller yelled out before ducking through an old post office door.

--

Gently Will tucked the globe back into his bag, zipping it uo before gently setting it on the passengers seat. "We need to stay together.. i dont know how many times i need to stress that." His eyes cut from Ami to Maxine, sticking with the young girl for a moment. Will nodded to River before sitting across the fire from Luke, gazing over at the one eyed man as he felt a cough escaping his throat. Wills hand shot up to his mouth as the sharp cough escaped, a few spots of blood staining Wills hand as he pulled his away. "Shit.." he mumbled as he cleared hisntgroat a few times. A light headed feeling taking him over as he leaned his elbows on his knees. An iron taste stayed behind in his mouth as he gazed around the fire, wondering if it was a simple sickness.. or something else.

The New World: Hope

Post by Wanderlusst » Thu May 10, 2018 10:32 pm

Haven's eyes went wide when she saw Miller stumble from the shadows injured. She was about to make a move when she seen the creature running at the car at full force, Haven froze in her spot until the gunshot made the thing stop. Watching it turn and make it's way towards Miller, Haven cursed slightly but when she heard him to tell her to just go, Haven gave the post office one last glance before she gunned it past the creature.

As Haven kept her foot heavy on peddle she made her way down another side street, knowing she couldn't possibly go the way she had been going before. Taking a quick look out her side mirror she noticed she wasn't being followed, but Haven also knew she was leaving behind a good man to a terrible death.

Haven drove for a while before she noticed the car was making a funny noise and wasn't driving smoothly anymore. As she pulled over, she quickly looked around before hopping out and taking a quick look, seeing a flat tire Haven groaned,"Guess I'm walking.."she muttered.

She grabbed her things along with a knife she found in the glove box. As she closed the door she crouched down, she didn't know who was out there anymore but she decided to write a message on the side of the car, Haven. Gone. No Eden. Out Looking. It was simple and to the point, as she stood up she shouldered her bag and began to limp down the empty road alone this time.

------

It took them a while but eventually off in the distance Jo could make out the city lights. As she looked over her shoulder at the other two she spoke up,"The gun shots came from somewhere over that way, you sure you wanna do this? It could be dangerous.."she whispered as she remembered the nights she spent with Lana in the motorbike shop listening to the snarls and screetches of the beasts that owned the night.

As she looked forward she swallowed a little,"When we enter the city stay close and quiet, keep your eyes open too,"she added as she looked at the dimly lit city. Not much power was left besides street lights, and Joey knew eventually those would all go too.
