[RP] Days of the Hero

Post by ShaFlow » Thu Apr 19, 2018 3:49 am

The day was young in Emperios.

For whomever, and everyone, the day was just like any other. The sun rose at its usual time with the early cries of the seagulls in the Tidal District; the streets of the Empire district moved with the energy of quick river currents. As the Neon district buzzed and glowed up with bright lights and loud noises. Today not much was going on...

For once in a long, long time, Emperios seemed to finally have a peaceful moment. Mocking possibly a rather ordinary civilization would be the most peculiar of things in all of its years...
----

Somewhere in the Empire district...

Beep!Beep!Beep!

No matter how many times the alarm echoed in the small apartment, the fire headed woman would just not get up! A louder snore trampled over the alarms sharp beeps. Even trembling the thin wooden floors. Wrapped tightly around in her bed sheets like a cocoon not a single hole for cool air, was left open.It was like being hugged by a flame. Like always Amane kept the television on at night. And every morning she woke up to Emperios's main source of news...

"In other news today, one of the members of the notorious gang "LION" has been taken into custody. After being apprehended by C-Rank heroes "Mighty" and "Stellar". Not a day goes by where the services of the Central Heroic Association are not appreciated...."

“Hey, do you really need to blink?”

What?

“You know. Since you’re barely human, and your eyes are cybernetic, they’re not real, meaning they don’t get irritated when dried out. So it doesn’t matter if you blink or not.”

I-I don’t know. I guess?

“See? You blinked there. Well it’s a basic human reaction, we do it without thinking. I guess you’re too used to blinking to actually stop. Hey, lemme poke you in the eye and see what happens.”

THIS IS NEITHER THE TIME NOR PLACE TO--

BAROOM!

Merrick’s feet lifted up from underneath him, swept up from the shockwave of the psionic induced explosion. His flight covered a good ten feet before he finally touched ground. “Shit! Hold on for dear life!

“Don’t gotta tell me twice!”

The cyborg rocketed down the street, the small figure, a 12 year old girl, latched onto his neck like a desperate puppy, though her excited grinning directly contrasted his worried countenance.
Somewhere to hide her, safety for the girl. There were too many enemies, their destruction levels unknown, Merrick wasn’t taking the chance. All he had to do was hide this girl and he could lead them away from her.

Over 5 minutes of running and Merrick’s eyes, that hadn’t blinked since he started running, flicked to an abandoned warehouse, just to the right of him.

There!

He jammed his hand into the concrete, smashing through the surface and grabbing hold of the softer dirt underneath. Sliding, tearing up the pavement as he tried to slowdown, Merrick’s makeshift anchor successfully whipped him towards the locked warehouse. One swift eye beam sliced away the lock, making it easier for Merrick to burst through the front doors.

“A warehouse? That’s so cliche!”

Shut your mouth!

The doors slammed shut, and Merrick paused for a brief second. The warehouse was packed with wooden crates, perfect for hiding little girls until an intense fight was over.
He rushed over, kicking away boxes until he found one that didn’t look like it would collapse under weight.

Chances are, they want me. Alright, I’m putting you in here and stacking a few boxes over you. I’ll give you my communication device. I’ll lead them away from here, once the area quiets down, contact the C.H.A and let them know where you are.

Merrick took the girl off his back, only to find her breathing heavily, hyperventilating. “What? Did you get hit by something, are you scared? You were all for this a few minutes ago.

“AAAAAAH This is so exciting!”
The girl seemed giddy… at first glance. Sweat poured down her face, despite not moving a muscle she was gasping for air, teary eyed. She was terrified. Yet this excited smile was spread so far that it split her face. “This is gnarly. My stomach tickles, I feel like I have to puke, my head is pounding, my chest hurts, hands won’t stop trembling, cold sweats, raspy breath, the fear of death. Is this the fight or flight response? I’m filled with so much dread I feel like I won’t make it out of this situation alive. My god this has to be the best feeling I’ve ever had in my life.”

Merrick stared down at the panicking child, his face mixed between disgust and pity. “What... What were you doing in this area? Did you know just who resided in this area.

“Brain Matter? Yes I knew. Who wouldn’t know that one of the most dangerous gangs exclusively made of psychics resided here. Honestly I made the call for a hero a few minutes before I even headed into their base.”

What?

“C’mon. Don’t act like you’ve never taken drastic measures to cure your boredom. I needed a cheap thrill.”

Che-- The cost of this is your life! That’s not cheap.

“I don’t want a lecture now. Just get us out of here so I can tell all my friends abou--”

The warehouse’s front wall blew open, the sudden blast of psychic energy caused Merrick’s and the child’s heads to spin. Both spat a curse from under their breaths, and ducked down behind a set of boxes.

”Come now. Let’s not be difficult. The girl has seen something she wasn’t supposed to. Hand her over and we may allow you to leave, Perverted Justice.”

Merrick grinded his teeth, gripping the tile flooring until it shattered under the pressure of his fingers. His eye switched from the still smiling but clearly terrified child, to the box he was hiding behind. Merrick blew an anxious breath, finally coming to a conclusion. He patted the girl on her shoulder, offering a reassuring smile, handing her his communication device. “Climb in a box like I told you. I’ll handle this.

“Wha-? You plan on taking them? It’s too unpredictable. You--”

Merrick lifted the girl up and dropped her in a box filled with packet peanuts. Placing a few boxes over her own.
He turned to the psychics. Four. Less than he thought, more than he wanted. Brain Matter was rumored to have threats as strong as Leviathan in their ranks. Definitely out of Merrick’s league. Maybe he was lucky, and their display of powers were just intimidating. A bark worse than their bite.

”Locking her away? So you plan on facing us? Fine.”

The front psychic, the big man, let out a wave of energy throughout the warehouse. The bark was definitely a warning for how bad their bite would be. ”I have yet to take down an A class hero, I’ll admit this is something I’ve been waiting for.”

In response to the psychic’s show of, Merrick imbued his fists in electricity, a largely underwhelming performance compared to the psychic. Still, the pressure created wasn’t crushing, nor did it want to make Merrick back down from the fight. He hoped that this meant that he had a chance against his opponents.

Well, I guess you’ll have to keep waiting.

Teeeeeeaaaaach!

The door burst open, revealing a silhouette of a large figure stumbling through.
Ah damn. I feel so good and so bad at the same time.
Merrick lurched through the doorway, glitched, jerking movements made him seem more like a zombie than a human. He resembled a scrapped robot. Pieces of his synthetic skin peeled, wires and stray metal poking out in various spots, blood stained parts of him that were still human, his left arm hanging on by a literal thread. All things he would get fixed later.

Let me tell you something Teach, two Sexorbeams is way above my capacity. I’m running off juice I had to steal from a few cars and lampposts. But boy, do I have a story for you. But first, I’ll need to charge myself and lay down on some pillows… Organic pillows preferably.

Stay focused.

Stay alert.

Remember your kickass battle intro.

These three thoughts buzzed through Jonathan Watts' head as he rapidly approached the area where a monster was said to have been spotted, silently hoping that he wasn't too late.

Finally, it was in sight; admittedly, an abandoned apartment building was a rather cliche setting, but Jonathan pushed the thought out of his mind as he entered, making his way passed the webbing that coated the walls and the stairwell, a new determination filling his mind;

"I can't mess this up," He said quietly to himself, "What kind of hero would I be if I was too late to save someone?"

-----------------------------------------------------------

"Shh...Shhhhh..." The monster, a humanoid spider-like figure mockingly muttered to its victim, a hapless young man, who could only struggle against the webbing and let out muffled screams of horror. Unwilling to wait any longer, the monster jolted forward, drool dripping from its fangs, but before it could feast, a bolt of lightning struck it in the back, sending it crashing to the floor.

"You know," Jonathan said, stepping out from the shadows, "On the top 10 list of people I wouldn't want to be today, I think you're number one." He quipped with a small grin. Electricity surged in between his hands, which he clapped together to create a blinding flash. When it cleared, Jonathan seemed to have disappeared, and in his place was the hero Volt.

'Nailed it!' he thought, recalling all the times he had practiced this intro, and all the times he ended up not changing fast enough. He cracked his knuckles and pointed a finger gun at the spider monster, "Time to Zap this bug!" He exclaimed.

The monster seemed to chuckle, and sent out a stream of webbing at Volt's extend hand, yanking him forward. Volt surged electricity through the wrapped hand, sending a current of electricity through the webbing back at the spider, causing it to let out a monstrous screech.

"Ha! Nice little trick, huh? I bet that really SHOCKED you--" Volt's groan-inducing pun was cut off by Two webs wrapping around his feet and being slammed into a wall, 'So much for alert and focused...' he thought to himself as he got back to his feet, but as soon as he did, the monster lunged for him, Volt responded in kind with a electricity-charged punch to the face, sending it flying back.

"I know I already said this before..." Volt began again, pointing a finger gun at the monster as electricity began to surge and crackle, "But I guess I can consider this bug...ZAPPED!" He fired off a large burst of electricity, frying the spider monster. Volt blew the smoke off of his finger and went over to untangle the young man from the web.

"Th-Thank you..." The man managed to stammer out, still clearly shaken from the monsters attack. He rubbed the back of his head nervously as if he were embarrassed, "Sorry, I don't think I've seen you before..."

"Hey, it's nothing, The name's Volt, friend. I'm new, but I'm gonna make a name for myself!" He flashed a thumbs up towards the man, who responded with a warm smile. After escorting the man home, he made his way towards the Hero Association.

However...

Back in the abandoned building, the charred body of the spider slowly climbed to its feet and made its way into the lower levels of the building where a man dressed in all black waited, a look of amusement crossing his face when he saw the charred form of the spider monster.

"Subject 65's grown into his powers, I take it?"

"You could say that..." It finally spoke, to which the man grinned.

"Perfect...Now then, Subject 96, there IS something else I'd like to test..." He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small vial with a bright green liquid inside it, "That is, if you're up for it. Might even help you get back at #65...".

With these words, the spider monster grabbed the vial and gulped down the liquid. Upon finishing it, The spider exponentially grew in size, about the height of a small house, causing him to break through the ceiling above him.

"You know what to do. If all goes well, I'll see you back at the lab."

"Paige!! Get up! You don't want to be late for school!"
Robin yelled for his sister. He would always get up earlier than her so he could make her breakfast and take her to school before he did his hero stuff.
"Paigee!!"
Robin yelled again right before he entered her room and opened the blinds so she had to get up. When he opened the blinds, he admired the amazing view that was in front of him.
"Ugh! Please, five more minutes!" She begged but knew it was pointless. She was getting up.

---//A little later//---

"Have a good day at school!" Robin kissed his sister on the forehead before she ran off to play with her friends who were already playing in the school courtyard. He stood there for some time before coming to his senses and continuing his walk towards C.H.A.

Normally a person should panic however this was a common occurrence. Merrick always barged into her room every morning with some absurd request. Slowly rising up her thumb and forefinger rubbed the bridge of her nose. He was merely a walking alarm clock at this point.

"You look more like crap than usual." She snickered rubbing her eyes. Amane pointed to a USB port from the cable box with a long white cable sticking out."There's your charging station." Amane threw off the covers. Underneath she was already was dressed in her usual hero outfit aside from foot wear. Hopping out of the bed and stretching she was ready to start off the day.

"Maybe if you learned to conserve yourself, you wouldn't need to charge after every encounter. Nothing good comes out of over extending..."

Crap? Who looks like crap? I’ll tell you what I look like, a pure badass that just got out of fight with Brain Matter.” Merrick smiled smugly, attempting to strike a pose similar to the overused superhero stance, closed fists on his hips and a puffed out chest. “ALL while saving a hedonistic little girl. It was quite the stressful situation if I do say so myself, I deserve a pat on the back.

Merrick gave himself the pat on the back, beaming as Amane rose from her bed. The “beam” fell seeing that she was fully dressed. “Disappointing.” He spat out, walking over to his charging station. “I’m conservative, trust me. I don’t go around spraying my Sexorbeams all over the place. I was just in a very tight space.” Merrick picked up his charging cable, feeling around the back of his head until he found the port, and then plugged it in.
He immediately went into his “Power Saver” mode to charge faster. It was similar to an intoxicated human. “Ugh. Pillows. Teach I need organic pillows.

"Ladies, gents!" Jonathan exclaimed as he swung open the doors to the hero association and strode in, "Volt has arrived!". After noticing his shouting got several head turns and hearing a small whisper of 'who?' , he suddenly felt a wave of embarrassment come over him, "You know, the guy who just registered a while ago? B-class--Nevermind..." He muttered nervously before walking further in, "Smooth start, Jonny..." he muttered to himself.

Robin looked at the weird guy who started yelling all of a sudden. He thought it was funny how he was nervous but he didn't laugh because that could seem kind of mean. Although Robin was wearing his costume he wore it without the mask. That was because he didn't really like wearing it that much since the mask still felt kind of weird on his face and he was new to the whole business.
"So, it's Volt, right?" Robin walked over to Volt after debating with himself about talking to the guy.

Volt blinked in surprise at someone having known his name, but quickly regained his confident demeanor, "That's me! And you're..." Jonny wracked his brain for the name of the man in front of him, he could've sworn he'd seen him around..."Wing, right?" Jonny rubbed the back of his head in embarrassment before reaching out a hand for a handshake. Though he seemed relatively fine, Volt's thoughts kept wandering back to the spider monster from earlier; it had gone down a bit too easy, maybe he should go back and double check as soon as he could. However, he was pulled out of his thoughts by the sound of shouting outside and the sight of civilians fleeing from something.

"Yeah, I'm Wing." Robin smiled cause he didn't really think people knew him around here. He was always kind of in the background. Robin's enhanced hearing allowed him to hear what was going on outside. It was calm but somehow it seemed off. Robin shook Volt's hand right before the shouting started.
"What the hell?" Robin wondered looking around to see if anybody was gonna do something about it but everybody seemed too scared and startled to basically do anything. It wasn't like he wasn't startled but it was kind of scary that he didn't know what was out there.
