Tales of Varnalia

Post by Hunuki » Thu Apr 05, 2018 3:20 pm

Venda, Sixth Month of the Year.

It was a bright and sunny Wena morning. The sun slowly rising up over the capital city of Paradis. The black pillar of the castle absorbing the sun's rays as it washed over it. The city was just waking up, a lot more noisy than usual. But it was a special occasion today. Soon the city was filled with the sounds of trade, gossip, and of course, celebration. For today was the youngest Princes birthday. Not just any birthday. The boy had finally become a man at the age of 18. This mark his right to marry, and set pilgrimage across the world to discover the land he would one day rule. The city was flood and overflowing with visitors from other villages and cities. a near constant in and out of airships had been coming and going all week. Carts and Muttsteeds riding in and out on the black roads. It would not be a day that would be forgotten anytime soon.

The young prince sat up in his bed, glaring out at the bright sun currently stabbing through his window, having woken him up. He swished his tail in tired annoyance, but knew he needed to be up. Today was going to be long, and filled with cake he hoped. He sprang out of bed, yawning and stretching. His always tired eyes falling to his pet Carro asleep on his bed. "..hrm... you're as lazy as I am.." He pet the creature and went to get dressed. His black ears twitching, a faint scuttling noise catching his attention. He looked to his table. A Might was wobbling on top of it, trying in vain to carry a loaf of bread far bigger than itself away. It's thin legs buckling under the weight of the floury piece of Hunuki's breakfast. The prince scowled lightly, clearing his throat deeply. The tiny sprite jumped, gazing up at him from underneath the huge loaf in it's clutches. ".... look if you want some just ask... you guys need to stop stealing my breakfasts.. I can share!' He went over and snatched the bread out of it's hands, sighing a bit and tore it in half. He held it out to the little sprite, who was wearing a horned helmet and a strange bottle cap as it's home. The Might was hesitant but grabbed the bread, and with a triumphant "POM!" It skittered off.

The prince sighed lightly, sitting at his desk, starting to eat what was left of his bread and bowl of soup to break his fast that morning. Thoughts of what was in store for him running through his mind.

Yin awoke to the sunrays poking through her curtains. Yawning softly and rubbing her eyes, she sat up, looking out between the curtains as she pulled them aside to let the bright morning light in. It was the prince's 18th birthday, and her mother had promised her that she would be allowed to go. Never has she been this excited before, she would get to see the prince with her own eyes! It probably would stay at that, but she didn't mind. Being stuck in this village all her life made her extremely appreciative of any chance. Yin shuffled to her wardrobe, looking through her fanciest dresses - granted, she didn't have many - yet she couldn't find one that she truly liked. Yin's gaze wandered over to her desk for a second after noticing a colorful note on top of.. a gift? It wasn't her birthday. Was it appropriate to receive gifts for another person's birthday? She shook her head, giggling and opening the present, her eyes widening at the item inside. It's as if her mother had known. A dress! A beautiful, black dress that reached her knees, with white lace that covered the top with patterns - how pretty!

Yin happily went to take a quick shower, before putting on her new dress along with simple black flats. The forestkin was standing in front of her mirror, putting up her hair into a ponytail while leaving a few strands open in the front so they would frame her face. Thanks to the ponytail her black and white hair mixed in the middle, giving it a nice look. Yin then skipped to go eat breakfast, greeting her mother cheerfully and thanking her for the dress. This dress hadn't been given to her because of the prince's special day only, but also because it would be the first time she was allowed to go to the city.

Image A black cloaked form was helping set up the for the party. Snow-white hands lifted from the cloak as the boards of the stage started to float off the ground. The hands swayed gently as the stage started to fall into place, nearly building itself with just a little help. Once the large stage was set up, the form stepped up onto it, making sure it was holding in place just fine. "Perfect," A small, feminine voice replied from under the hood, scanning the stage a bit. "Hm..." she realized it needed something else. She untucked her hands from the cloak again, humming to herself gently as she made slight motions. Vines started to grow up and wrap around the stage posts at the corners of the wooden structure, large, colorful flowers growing from the vines. Some would think it was such a mundane thing to use her magic for. But she didn't think so.

Having traveled the entirety of yesterday in a small carriage to arrive at the castle well after dark the rays of sunlight entering Amaya's room were not well received. The kit lazily rolled onto her side, attempting to get just a little more sleep, but not one minute after she closed her eyes her door opened. Standing in the doorway was her father, already fully dressed and holding a tray of food in his hands. How on earth he could be so energetic and active with so little sleep was beyond her.

"Still in bed kitten? I know we got here pretty late last night but it's time to get up." Kantaro said as he entered, placing the tray of food on a nearby table. Amaya didn't so much as move as she responded.
"I feel like I barely got any sleep at all..."
Kantaro chuckled.
"Well that's one of the drawbacks of travel. Especially when someone insists on stopping every few hours to stretch her legs." Amaya scowled a little at that comment, though remained in her comfortable position.

"Come on Amaya, it's the big day. Time to see the city and meet Hunuki. And don't worry, I've already checked, and you are by far the most beautiful kit here. If the prince does not fall you he's either crazy or gay."

Amaya smiled ever so slightly, though she had mixed feelings about this whole trip. While she was excited about seeing the city and meeting the future king, she didn't like being brought specifically to be shown off to him as a potential bride. Kantaro only saw the smile though, and commented on it.

"That's the smile I like to see. Keep that up sweetie. I'll leave you to your breakfast now. See you downstairs. Don't take to long, alright?"

With that Kantaro left Amaya with her food and her thoughts. The delicious scent quickly flooded the room and Amaya soon found herself unable to resist and finally got out of bed. Quickly devouring the meal she then prepared herself for what was going to be a long, but hopefully enjoyable day.

Image Image A giant scaleborn form strutted through the walls that led to the city outside of the castle, as if she owned the place. Well, in a way, she sort of did. Purple scales gleamed in the morning light, her attire not leaving anything to imagination which led to many gawking at her lack of decency. Then again, she was a scaleborn. Not just any scaleborn, or one of the rare winged ones. No, she happened to be married to the eldest son, the White Prince, Musuko. It was a mix of her long strides and energetic pace that caused her to leave her guard and her guests alike behind. She was eager to meet with her brother, and be the first to greet him. Well, and of course, she wanted to see her Musuko again. The rest of her group will just have to catch up.

She made her way through the small city within the city, and passed where the stage was being set up, and pushing the castle doors open, the guards not even attempting to stop her. They knew who she was, and they were just glad she was in a hurry. Less hugs that way. She continued down the halls, most staff keeping out of her way, as she made her way to Hunuki's door. It flew wide open as she made her way inside, arms out wide. "Hunuki, my darling brother!" She nearly shouted as she wrapped her arms around the smaller boy, enveloping him in a large, bust-filled hug. "Happy birthday!"Image

Yin was basically jumping with excitement, her mother amused at how happy her youngest daughter was. She was not noble, but her mother hoped nevertheless that the prince would show some interest. Yin always only shook her head at that, there was no way that would happen so she didn't even make false hopes. Instead, she looked forward to all the shops and the big city and-! There was just so much to see! In the little village they had been working at there wasn't much to see. Maybe the animals were interesting, but only if you enjoyed watching cows eat grass and pigs roll around in dirt. Although, baby pigs were pretty adorable.

Anyways, Yin and her mother finally arrived in the bustling city, it seemed everyone was busy already! Loud chatter was audible throughout the streets and Yin's eyes were wide with wonder. She was barely able to contain herself with how much excitement was flowing through her. Oh, how she wished to make friends here! Yet, she was afraid they wouldn't accept someone like her.

Suddenly, she felt the dread of being judged. Was she dressed well enough? The prince would think she is a farmer, right? What if anyone else here thinks that too? Doubts started pouring in; Yin was keeping a smile on her face as not to worry her mother.

"Are you looking forward to seeing the prince?" Her mom asked, nudging her shoulder suggestively. "Maybe you can spark his intereest~" The older kin began teasing Yin, who couldn't help it when a bright blush appeared on her face. "Y-yes, of course; but I doubt he would even care to see me."

Hunuki was mid piece of bread when the door burst open. He had littler time to react before he was scooped up from his morning meal. Warmth and softness engulfed him. He was caught off guard for a few moments, trying to get his bearings before he realized exactly where he was. He gave a muffled sigh. "...Thank you Alex..." He said, barely audible from his chesty prison. There was no winning against this, he had tried many times, but the scaleborn was to strong. It was best to just let it happen. He felt more sorry for his brother, knowing this was probably a multiple daily occurrence, if not more often. Alex was always very loving with Musuko. "...Have any trouble getting here?" He asked, muffled by her bosom.

On the east end of the castle, the public courtyard was finally opening. The gigantic gathering area was where the king would usually address the people of the city with important news. It could hold thousands of people. It was decorated rather nicely today. Long tapestries and banners hung from the walls surrounding the courtyard, displaying the house sigil. and sigils of other royal houses in the kingdom. At the front of the courtyard, high above it was the overlook where the prince would stand in a few hours, to greet and talk with the people. It was draped in black and white silk. Slowly the massive courtyard began to fill with people, all of them eager to see the Prince.

A young woman entered the city, holding onto a cane made from the black stone she walked on. Using it to guide her. A old ragged cloth covered her eyes. Deep scars webbing out from under and around the cloth across either side of her face. She was slow due to her blindness, but persistent. She wore a dark purple dress, the bottom frayed and torn in places. She was barefoot. Her lightly scaled feet slowly moving towards the gathering crowds. She somehow moved and passed those in front of her in a strangely elegant grace, despite her blindness. Her skin was a purpleish gray in tone, with scales running along her forearms and neck. A scaleborn no doubt. A thin leathery tail was wrapped around her waist as she slowly walked. He head raised gently, seeming to look up at the large castle. She stopped for a moment, simply taking in the sounds of the city around her. Her pointed ears twitching every now and then. Her black crooked horns pointing at the sky. She turned her heard finally, and started to the courtyard. The thin black can clacking with every other step as she made her way there. She too was there for the same reason as most, to witness the young Prince's birthday.

Somewhere in the streets of the capital, a young Elium with white-pink hair was excitedly trying to struggle through the crowds approaching the public courtyard. Novinha was extremely excited by this whole event as her parents had been far too protective after Lorn died, to allow her out again. As such this was really only the second time she had left their little village and as such, it was the cause of some excitement on her end. Leaving her village wasn’t the only thing exciting her though. She was eager to see the royal family, the younger prince, all of those people she never saw because she’d been stuck inside her home for all that time. Nova loved her parents and all, very grateful that they had adopted her, but really, was it so difficult to allow her out once in a while? They had only allowed her out as they wanted to see if she could attract the prince or something along that line. With all the nobles here though, already dolling up their daughters in expensive finery, she highly doubted she’d catch the eye of anyone or thing unless she practically fell onto them. That wasn’t Nova’s priority either too, as she was really here for the books. Her villages library had been tiny and lacked any reading material that would’ve proved to be of interest to her so she had brought her small savings to perhaps hrab a few books. When she had entered the capital though, she had been dissapointed to see that all the bookstores were closed for the occasion of the prince’s birthday.

Nevertheless, Nova was out and walking about now,!and she was enjoying it while she could. The remainder of her family had remained home with the excuse of having to tend to the farm as usual, but she doubted the farm would die without tending to for two measly little days. As she drew nearer and nearer to the public courtyard, the masses of people simply thickened, but her enthusiam over the whole spectacle just grew. This event was pretty much once in a lifetime and seeing the hustle and bustle around her for it seemed to mark its importance. Of course, her excitement made her a bit less cautious and so she found herself accidentally walking into people and objects at a surprisingly high rate, letting out little apologies as she did so by accident. Nova sighed a bit and struggled her way out to some less crowded area where she just leaned against a wall and sagged down a bit. ”Nova, get it together,” she scolded herself a bit,”you’re going to break something and with your luck, you probably won’t have the money to pay for it.” Well... look at that, her conscience was scolding her in place of her parents already. Still, it seemed nothing could dim her mood as she continued on into the public courtyard.

Valek honestly had no interest or desire to go to this, but given the circumstances, he had little to no choice. So he decided to clean his bound helmet to the best of his ability, along with his coat, the closest thing to something formal he had, and buttoned it up. Almost everyone was on their way to the castle, and the large crowds made him uncomfortable, especially the ones that accidentally bumped into him. He lost sight of the Queen, knowing she had rushed ahead of everybody first to see someone, but didn't think further on the subject. Gloved hands in his pockets, the scaleborn picked up a little haste to reach the castle before she would start to wonder where he was.

Dracko had expected Alex to be in a rush to see Hunuki so while he did fall a little bit behind he was still able to more or less keep up with her pace. He slowed only one time which was whenever one of the many random castle workers crossed closely in front of his path. After the Dire male had passed he then quickly continued on his way. He arrived at the younger Princes room not too long after she had began her hug fest. He gave the Queen a wicked smile and then said "I still think that would be an especially effective way to knock someone out if you just added a little more pressure. Good day Prince Hunuki. It's a pleasure to see you again. Happy Birthday." He had only met the prince a few times in passing whenever the Prince and Alex happened to be seeing each other on the same days that he was checking in with his Queen. However he still thought well of the younger man because of the way he always composed himself, although he wasn't sure what exactly the Prince thought of him.
