@Mirmuse
"No, not melt. Through sheer abrasion a bad sandstorm will ruin our skin. I remember helping my buddy Kowalski get the sand out of his arms after getting caught outside in a really bad l one. Jesus Christ on a pikestaff I hope to never do that again." Battery finished off his breakfast, then gestured to Sasha.
@Sasha
"You're mostly good. You just need something with longer sleeves.and face and eye protection."
Battery then took off his cape and laid it out on the table. In a few quick pulls he split the cape into three squares of cloth, large enough to use as an improvised shemagh scarf. He passed one square to Sasha and threw another, fastball, at Phina's head, keeping one for himself. With the makeshift scarves passed out, Battery ran down to the Range, grabbing three pairs of shooting glasses. Before returning to the kitchen, he took a Colt M1911 off the wall, holstered it on his ballistic vest, and filled his vest pockets with clips.

@preparations

Phina rolled her eyes at the robot and the others, and pointedly ignored Battery when he threw the scrap of fabric, instead catching it in her palm, then letting it fall to the floor. They could think what they wanted, she knew how to get through a desert and knew her clothing wasn't adequate. So she got up from the table without a word and went back to the storage room. When the door opened it was sooty and dark inside...but if she remembered correctly...ah. She pulled out a walking outfit and slipped it on before joining the others at the cafe.

"Thanks," Sasha said, taking the bandana and staring at it like she didn't know what to do with it. But a few minutes later Rannok returned, dressed head to toe in loose linens. He looked comfortable. Almost like he belonged in that outfit. Sasha stared at him for a moment before he threw something at her. She caught it and unballed it. It was a cloak, made of the same fabric.

"Put this on," he said, slipping his hood over his head. "I found it in the room I was supposed to stay in. It'll protect your head from the sun."

Sasha nodded and slipped it on. The fabric was baggy, but light and airy, and comfortable to move in. They'd be getting off soon, and that scared her. But Rannok knew what he was doing.

Please prepare for imminent departure. All crewmembers are asked to meet in the kitchen at this time.

Sasha swallowed.

With a sigh, Mai rose to her feet as the announcement played. So time to go save the world, or whatever. It was too early in the morning for this. She lifted her left arm and twirled a finger in the air, a ring of light traveled down her arm, her clothing unraveling into light as the ring passed, falling to her feet. The light blossomed outward before bursting into a technicolor display, which left a slowly fading bloom of light in the air.

Her original clothing was gone, replaced by a black dress which reached to mid-thigh, a long yellow and black sleeveless jacket. She picked up what remained of her orange juice and downed it before grabbing the canteen which she hooked into her jacket.

“Well, all downhill from here, right?” She asked with a wink as she stepped over to Sasha.

Mirmuse blinked and looked away from the light show; xe wondered why the other humans didn’t do the same thing to change clothes, since it certainly seemed faster. Maybe only musicians were hardcore enough for it.

Xe dug xyr claws into the floor, uncertain how rough the landing was going to be. “I guess so,” xe said, cautiously making xyr way over to Mai and Sasha. “I guess we’ll have a lot to brag about by the time we get back!”

Xe tried to ignore xyr anxiety, and just focus on how cool it was going to be to explore an alien planet. They’d be fine, they were the chosen heroes of the multiverse; they wouldn’t be sent down there if the ship knew something bad would happen to them. It’d probably be a lot of fun, even!

@ David

"Let's go with the second. We arrive on Khales and find ourselves completely unable to defeat our enemy...who survives the longest. I vote for Mirmuse. She eats rocks, her species has evolved to live in the harsh underground, I think she could make a decent life for herself on Khales."

Jack said after going over everyone's skills in his mind. If they found the enemy unbeatable the bravest would die first and then it was a matter of survival. David came in a close second but eventually the sand would rust him away...only Mirmuse could survive.

Please prepare for landing.

A bring red light flashed overhead, and another noise blared as the ship spoke to them. Rannok cringed down and covered his ears before getting his bearings again, and Sasha gave him a small smile. But before he could open his mouth to speak to her, the ship had vanished.

He looked around. In every direction were crumbling buildings, with lettering written across the tops and sides. A warm, hot wind whipped across the ground, and he blinked before getting his bearings again and looking around for the others. They all stood in approximately the same spots as they had on the ship, except now they were outside, in what looked like an abandoned village square.

"Hm," Phina said, drawing closer to one of the crumbling artifacts. She reached beneath it with two fingers and pulled out a bottle, then tipped it on its side. A leftover trickle of liquid ran out. "This place isn't abandoned, or at least not permanently. Someone has been here recently."

"Great," Sasha said brightly, but it had an edge. Just what they needed.

Battery stood where the kitchen door had been, all three pairs of glasses in his hands. He quickly passed the eye protection to Phina, Sasha, and Mai. With the glasses distributed, he pulled out his pistol and chambered a round.
"Keep your eyes up. Those buildings are good vantage points for an ambush." Battery kept his gun trained on the village square. "Jack and I should take point and sweep and clear."

@Khales

Mirmuse shook xyr head, glancing around the alien world in bewilderment. There were strange buildings all around, with doors the right size for humans but too small for xem to fit through without breaking down part of the wall. Xry head twitched, trying in vain to hear for any sounds of other people. There were too many strange noises to sort though, though- weird animal sounds, wind rustling over sand, the trickle of water somewhere very deep underground.

"Uh, good idea?" xe ventured hesitantly in response to Battery's suggestion. Thank god someone here knew what they were doing. "Should... I come with? I can climb the sides and see if there's anyone by the upper windows, I guess?" xe offered, nervous but wanting do something. Hopefully human guns wouldn't make xem dissolve into goo or something.

@ Khales

The sudden arrival on Khales surprised Jack, who looked around at his suddenly new surroundings with his rifle in hand. Battery was right, this was a good place for an ambush, but he personally doubted they would be. Still, better safe than sorry, so Jack agreed to a sweep, but not Mirmuse's assistance.

"Better not...might attract unwanted attention. We have to assume if anyone is here they are humanoid and not expecting company. We burst in we can hopefully talk things out. Seeing you might prompt them to shoot first...no offense."

Jack said to the rock as he looked around, Val scanning the visible areas. So far there was no one there, but he didn't want to be caught by surprise.

@The Plaza of Mystery

“Not really much of a landing, that.” Mai commented, scanning the new surroundings. One moment a ship, the next a hot wind smacking against her back as it churned between buildings. An abandoned village of some sort with plenty of nooks and cracks for a pair of prying eyes to stare from without being noticed in return. Though the problem was simply what where they searching for? In the village? Out of the village? Mirmuse could climb up the tallest nearby building to give them an idea of their surroundings.

Not that there were too many they could use.

The market square was fairly long but there seemed no real rhyme or reason to the placement of the buildings. It was like looking at a line of short broken teeth, most were only a single story, but every so often a slightly taller building would stick up just a little taller. But eventually she found what she needed, a building at the other end of the plaza which rose far above its squat sunbeaten neighbors. A whole three stories tall, massive in comparison to everything else lining the plaza.

“We probably want to scope out our surroundings and figure out a plan rather than just randomly tramping around. The building at the end of the plaza there should give us the best view, so we should head that way first."
