Josephine is searching for a tenant to evenly share the rent with and does not care of their gender at this point (despite how scandalous it can be). Please PM me if interested.

Pearl entered her home with her dark hair a mess. Slipping off the ball gown and the mask, she quickly changed into an ankle length nightgown before plopping onto her bed, the springs squeaking in protest.

Things could have gone better at that ball, that was for sure. In fact, she was hoping it had all been a horrible nightmare. The woman lamented at her situation before drifting too sleep, hoping for peace in the future. She was done trying to cut corners for her fortune.

Sleep came swift for Josephine, swept across at an unnatural rate as if some dark hand turned out her light. It paced along in an inky black for a long time. Measurable, unlike the typical jumps of dreamless sleep, but devoid of any substance or stimuli to break the endless void. Then, after what may have seemed like hours - a light.

The darkness unfolded onto a barren plane of gray dirt. The sky was incredibly wide, stretched out past the natural horizon, and at its apex hung a bright red moon larger than what one would deep comfortable. Despite the shifting trees in the distance, the air was as devoid of wind as the sky was of any stars.

The moon grew lips and began to speak.

Josephine had been in a daze for what seemed like hours, strangely alert in her dream. Then the moon spoke, causing the woman to take a step back with slight fear.

"You have been? Why?" Josephine asked automatically. She didn't bother quedtioning where she was. It didn't occur to her, or even feel important at the moment.

The two replies came at the same time, but instead of jumbling together, they each were understandable. The moon began to slowly rotate.

In its turning, a hollow concave was being revealed on the other side of the moon, deep and dark as the starless sky. Though it as devoid of features, it held a certain draw, a magnetic pull that seemed to guide the eyes to its center.

Josephine furrowed her brow, feeling confused. What plans? And a pet? How strange. But these thoughts were soon forgotten as the moon slowly rotated and Josephine found herself staring into an alluring blackness.

She wanted to crawl inside and curl into a ball. The woman felt a sudden lightness as she thought about this wistfully. Maybe she would, and Josephine instinctively went onto the tips of her toes.

The darkness inside shifted. For a moment, a sinuous shape writhed and curled, barely discernible from the rest of the pitch black interior. But the shape coalesced, and out from the moon came - a woman. She floated down from the sky, lighting mere feet away from Josephine.

There was something odd about her.

It may have been her too-tall stature, hanging over the other girl imposingly, or it might have been the blank draw of the plain smiling mask on her face. In either case, she gave off the feeling of comfort mixed with a sense of something not entirely being quite right.

"Hello, Josephine."

Josephine liked that the woman called her by her birth name instead of Pearl. It was a nice difference. But something felt distorted. Almost like a puzzle piece that would not fit.

"Hello, what is your name?" She said, furrowing her eyebrows and looking at the woman closely. What was wrong? She was told it was nothing, but was it? Josephine felt inclined to step closer, but she stood her ground, looking up at the woman.

"I am ----------."

She'd said... something, that much could be ascertained, but what that something was she had said was beyond the realm of understanding. The woman smiled, however, sharp teeth glinting from behind the mask

The woman smiled a very normal smile, however, her face unobscured by any mask. She was plain, but beautiful, and had eyes as deep and faint as a storm on a sunny day.

"You are very special to me, Josephine, darling," the woman whispered, stepping forward. Her tall form loomed and stretched over the smaller girl, ravenous mouth stretched wide to devour her whole. Claws on buckled arms erupted from her side, her body stretching and stretching until it was a snake-like blob of black that

"Very special indeed." The woman smiled a very normal smile, her face unobscured by any mask. The moon smiled too. It had a happy face, eyes glittering, two fresh dimples in its cheeks. There was no hollow in the moon. There was never a hollow in the moon.

"Josephine!"

"Do you hear the wind?" the woman said, pulling Josephine closer beside her. They were sitting on a bench underneath a sycamore tree, staring up together at the smiling moon. "Sometimes, it sounds like the wind is talking, but that's only a trick of the imagination. It blows through the leaves, warping and bending just like the breath in our throats. But wind doesn't speak!"

"JOSEPHINE!"

Flashes of kittens frolicking in fields, children laughing and smiling. There was a paper in the woman's outstretched hand.

"All you have to do is sign here and it is all over," the woman said, holding out a pen. "Then we can leave the pain behind us, and hold onto happiness for the rest of our lives."

More flashes. A prince holding Josephine's hand, dancing with her across the courtyard. If she looked closely, he would have the face of her first crush, or perhaps an imaginary boy she'd fancied in her youth.

He has no face. This is a lie.

"Josephine, if that's your name, for the love of the gods don't listen to her!"

It was like Josephine was seeing two realities at once. Only one was getting poorly erased and something else was plastered on top. One second she was frightened, the next she was hopeful and grinning. And Josephine could have sworn she heard the wind talking, but the woman was right. The wind didn't speak.

Then Josephine was dancing, something that brought the black haired woman immense joy. But it reminded her of the ball. And the ball reminded her of Sully.

Dead Sully.

Josephine was upset until she realized who her partner looked like. A light haired man who had a scar on his eyebrow. And kind blue eyes. She felt so happy until distantly she heard the wind howl.

Josephine stopped. She stopped dancing with the boy, she stopped smiling, she stopped herself before she signed the contract. Josephine took a step back and placed her hands on the sides of her head.

"Wait! Shut up!" She yelled, overwhelmed. There was too much for her to process. She wasn't able to think properly.
