Lithius and Gaius' Incorporeal Foes

The sabered shade was forced to take a step back, its attention fully focused on the flurry of blows. Still, it expertly maneuvered its sword with an almost inhuman dexterity, managing to deflect strike after strike on its dancing edge. However, one misplaced parry sent one of Gaius' blades into its swordarm's wrist, cut leaving a trail of nothing in its wake. Its weapon fell to the floor. It glanced from fallen weapon, to vanished hand, to Gaius, then seemed to disappear into thin air.

The other shadow, glaive in hand, braced for Lithius' strike. It managed to redirect it, only just, crackling sword sliding down the shaft of its polearm and away mere inches to its right. Where the powered slash neared it, chunks of the beast seemed to disappear, leaving a gaping hole in its side. It appeared unphased, though, and quickly shifted into a horizontal slash towards Lithius' sternum.

Kthirtic's Study

The wraith Kthirtic carefully stalked made no signs of aggression, or even signs of agitation. It merely walked in a lazy line down the now-near-deserted streets, footsteps silent as the breath of a corpse. If the scientist continued to follow, it would begin to veer off the main path. Three turns through a signless alley. Beyond the fence of an abandoned storefront's yard. Through the doors of a rustic cellar.

Lithius was beginning to grow irritated of the apparition's unfair advantages. Even His holy lightning called down from the heavens had little effect on this unholy wraith. Withdrawing his sword quickly after he made his strike, Lithius angled his sword and parried the pole-arm away from his upper chest. The parry, however, left him in an unsuitable position for a counterattack, so he utilized his opponent's incorporeal form and moved through the darkened figure's body. Enduring the chilling feeling through his body, the paladin quickly turned on his heels to face his adversary; raising his sword above his head, Lithius brought a sweeping strike down upon the apparition's head.

Gaius began muttering curses underneath his breath as this thing seemed to perfectly deflect and parry each strike. The damned thing was pretty much inhumanly fast at tracking his blades and blocking them. Despite that the man didn't relent one bit and almost seemed to grow more intense with each strike. Bloody thing was on his nerves and seemed like he was mocking his swordsmanship. When a blow finally hit it wasn't because of skill, it was sheer dumb luck. A parry sent one of his blades down towards the hand of the shadowy figure. To which it cleanly cut it from its owner's body and disarmed the bloody bastard. What happened next was a bit annoying as the thing looked from its saber and then to him.

At the same instant the figure he'd been fighting suddenly vanished without a trace, leaving its ungodly weapon behind. Gaius seemed to take a deep breath as he calmed himself down somehow. These things were going to be hell to fight in numbers. At that moment the red haired man remembered why he was fighting and turned towards the knight. The fellow was still locked into combat with his shadow buddy. With a deep breath Gaius hurried over towards the man preparing for possibly another fight. For a split second his gaze turned back over towards the pie tent, hoping the lovely Skye was alright.

Lithius and Gaius' Incorporeal Foe

The shade tried sweeping the butt of its glaive into a counterparry following Lithius' deflection, but the man was already passing through it. It turned, confused, and seemed to realize its comrade had already fallen. Taking two quick steps back, it leveled its polearm at the two fighters, poised and defensive. Too late, though, as Lithius' sword cleaved straight through its body. It stood there for a few more seconds, two halves split by a line of erased form, before vanishing into thin air.

The unholy attacker's day of judgement had arrived. Lithius' purified sword cut the figure with a clean stroke, lacerating the body from head to groin. His saber clanged as it hit the ground beneath his opponent, the wraith wavering for a moment before dispersing into the night air without so much as a sound. Breathing out, Lithius took a knee and sheathed his blade within his scabbard.

"May Veius condemn you, sinful beast." He breathed out. Muttering a small prayer, the holy knight stood to his feet and looked to the man who had helped him face the apparition.

"I thank you for your help." Lithius spoke, a curt tone present within his voice. Turning around, the paladin began to walk back towards the Dragon's Scale, entering the large building and disappearing from the festival.

Lithius has left the festival.

The rat-like woman paused at the cellar doors, tilting her head to either side as she examined the problem. There was no way to know what was on the other side of it. Then again, there was no way to know what wasn't through it, either. That satisfied her as to whether it would be the right course of action to follow, but not as to how she would manage it.

Well. Not for lack of options. Staff, gauntlet, lockpicks, various little gadgets.

She was getting ahead of herself, though. She poked and pulled at the cellar door's handles, testing to see whether it was locked.
The human body is a true carnival of horrors, and, frankly, I'm embarrassed to have one.

Gaius took a deep breath of relief when the knight managed to take out his assailant himself. He thought the two would atleast chat for a moment, maybe make sure neither were hurt. Instead he seemed to walking into a building he'd come to know as the local guild. An interesting place he thought of joining quite a few times. The idea of setting down roots was a bit disconcerting for the young man. Especially after traveling so long and not staying in most places for but a short period of time. Gaius gave the man a wave though as he walked into the guild, finding himself lost at what to do for the moment. None of the other shadows seemed to be attacking people, simply wondering around. The streets were still deserted of most life though.

Gaius almost face palmed himself as he remembered the lovely young lass he'd been sharing pie with. Without thinking about it twice the redhead hurried back over towards the tent he left her in to make sure she was alright." Lady Skye, are you alright? Strange shadows walk the streets. Twas worried you may have been hurt." Gaius spoke quickly as his honey tone was lost and replaced with genuine concern and worry. Even his gentle green eyes held a look that showed his words were true to how he felt. He was always more concerned for others rather than himself.

Skye had helped the woman who twisted her ankle, urging her to run away before watching the fight before her. Eventually, when Gaius had turned to her, sheshe s relieved to see both him and Lithius mostly unscathed. Although Lithius must have torn his freshly healed wound moving about so violently.

"I'm alright. If anything, I'm a bit sad I didn't finish my pie," Skye said truthfully. One might take that as a joke, but she was wholey serious.

Kthirtic's Study

The bay-hinged cellar swung open with a bit of effort, held down by weight of the dense wood and rust of the ancient junctures (though not after a fair bit of squealing). Darkness would meet the woman's eyes. Within it, a stone wrought staircase descended, outline vaguely illumined by some flickering glow below. Despite the light, it was still too dark to see if the wraith was anywhere nearby.

If she were to follow the path, she would find two things: The shade was indeed gone, and a fair number of steps down, a wooden board lay askew over a drafty, door-sized hole in the wall.

"Rat-like eyes without rat-like sight is a curse on all that walk on two legs," Kthirtic muttered to herself, and the gauntlet's crystal-studded track began to spun to life. The crystals began to emit an eerie, green glow, lighting up the cellar well enough to see by. No sign of the wraith, but it had been walking; she paced forward along the path after it.

The hole in the wall was interesting. It was a Thing of Interest. Holes were not naturally occurring. Perhaps there had been a door here, or perhaps the hole had been made after the wall had been abandoned; regardless, the board had certainly been placed there afterwards. The wraith was--she poked at the board with her staff. Not rigorously enough to discharge it, but hard enough to jostle it, and maybe set it loose.
