Josephine felt herself jerked behind the winged man, and was propelled into a run against her will. Not that she minded at first, running was more her thing. What she did mind though, was the places they began to run through. She barely had to time to look at the haggard old faces, rotted buildings, and scurrying rats the size of small cats whisk by. Her nose wrinkled at the smell of rot, and she bumped harshly into Sully when they stopped.
He knocked on the door and her wrist began to throb from being jerked around. She looked down at it, heart pumping with fear as she realized this may not be what she expected. Of course it was too good to be true. Of course she was messing with the wrong crowd. Josephine's fear heightened when she heard of selling, but didn't relax when Sully defended her. She already felt like she had been sold.

"I be lookin' fer a fin dress, fin maskin' vij, all pretty things ta be dollin' this'ere doll up," Sully said, slowly closing and latching the door behind them. Sensing Josephine's unease, he gave her another smile, but in the dim lighting it looked like the snarl of a hungry beast. "Be et peace, pretty girl, silly girl. Calmin' tha head, now, ol' Sully n' Gommi ainna hurt ye."

He nodded assuringly, and turned back to Gommi expectantly. The old woman sighed, rubbing at her already smudged makeup, and waddled down the aisles of her shop. The store was, least to say, impressive. Stacks upon stacks of clothes teetered ominously on the shelves, some fine as the day they were sewn, others eaten away by moths and mold. As Gommi walked, she scattered tiny, foul-smelling balls randomly amidst the stacks.

"Keep um mofs oot," she grumbled to no one in particular. "Nessy theng. Bitty, flip em weng, eat all min cloffs."

She reached her hand haphazardly, pulling a seemingly random dress out of the mess. Another claw shot out, and she was holding a matching mask. She waddled back to Sully with a toothless grin.

"Gorem penny? May penny, shinny gol. Kerr up, mebe, oonit?" she said. Sully winced, but nodded, pulling coin after coin from his pouch and placing it on a nearby table. Anyone undazzled by the sight of so much gold would be surprised it was all able to fit inside such a tiny bag.
Alone she drifts from ancient mists
Nary a candle, nary a wish
But in the wont of wandering paths
Through wooded knolls, and windworn crags
She seeks a face she thought as friend
But now -- she thinks as judgement's end

The winged mans expression had hardly lifted her spirits. In fact, the girl was even more afraid than before. Josephine followed Sully unwillingly, well aware of his still firm grasp on her wrist. She looked at the shop with apprehension and fpught the urge to claw Sully's eyes out in an attempt to escape. That would probablly just end in her getting cursed.
When Gommi pulled out a beautiful ball gown, Josephine gasped softly, amazed by it's rippling white chiffon, amazing pink rose petal design on the bodice, and lace that spanned from the collarbone to her wrists. It was absolutely gorgeous, making her briefly forget the mess she was in. The mask was also quite the sight, and Josephine wished she could examine it in closer detail.

Sully took the gossamer gown delicately in his nimble hands, stretching out the fabric to check for torn seams or worn cloth. He held it up to the light, tutted, delightfully, and held it out like a newborn child for Josephine to hold.

"Take," he commanded absently, moving his attention over to the mask. He flipped it once, twice, and lightly flexed the edge, again seeming satisfied. This was handed off too, with the same care the gown had been handled with.

"Well?" he said to Josephine, head cocked sideways. "See pretty girl, see pretty garbin', best be puttin' tha garbin' on! Hm! Try ta be seein' if it fit ye!"

Josephine took the fabric, admiring how soft and light it seemed, and then took the mask. It had pink roses on either sides of the pink face, with matching pearls and bows added to it. It had a gold lace lining and the material on the front seemed to be made of a sturdy silk. She brushed her fingertips over the swirling design before looking up at Sully.

"Put it on... right here?" She said, a blush spreading to her face and heat boiling in her stomach. She didn't want to expose herself in front of these two, it was indecent!

"Oh!" Sully said, suddenly seeming incredibly amused. "Oh hoh hoh hoh hoh hoh!"

Chortling, he grabbed his stomach, bending over until he began to wheeze. When his laughter finally stopped, he pressed a palm hard over his eyes, spinning around like a ballet dancer.

"I cannit see, darlin'!" he called over his shoulder. Gommi, on the other hand, merely sat down on the floor and gnawed at one of her mothballs thoughtfully, gaze wandering elsewhere in the shop.

"Best be changin' quicklike, er I be turnin' at tha couna sixy!"

Josephine's cheeks burned even further at Sully's laughter. Once she felt assured that their gazes were safely averted, she changed. The dress for beautifully and danced on her skin softly like sunlight. She loved it. But the moment was bittersweet due to the circumstances.
She took this time to let her hair out of it's bun, turning her hairstyle into something else. This relaxed her, and she made quick work of it. Soon, her wavy hair was cascading down her back while two braids sat atop her head like a from. The violet eyed girl pinned the mask into her hair as funky and discreetly as she could before clearing her throat. How could she enjoy this when she seemed to be a prisoner?

Sully was already looking, a broad smile on his face. Gommi had wandered off to a nearby stack of shelves, mothballs once more in her fist, showering the clothes sparsely.

"Isa fin, pretty garbin' ana fin, pretty girl!" the carrenwing cawed, ruffling his feathers in delight. "Makin' ta be a fin, fin lady fer tha ball! Aye, Gommi? Gommi!"

He leaped up, grabbing the old wretch by the neck of her dress. She flailed feebly, but didn't resist, and was easily turned to face the now-dressed Josephine.

"Looka dat, ya wench!" he spat in a commanding voice. The cheerfulness had slipped, and twisted now on his face was a mask of pure spite, eyes glistening with rage.

"Bitty looken goot," she murmured, her mothballs falling out of her hand onto the dirty floor. "Bitty looken goot..."

"Looken goot?" Sully mocked. "Looken GOOT?" He shook the old woman back and forth playfully. "Bitty looken goot! Bitty lookin goot! She be min 'bitty,' and she be lookin' lika right-proper queen!"

Still shaking Gommi from side to side, Sully wrapped his other hand around her neck, long fingers burrowing in the layers of sagging skin. Gommi gasped, but it was quickly cut off, turning into something akin to a dying frog. She slapped at the arms of the raptorish con, but she was old and weak. Purple leaked into the corners of her eyes and lips.

"She canny be knowin' we came here, me doll," he explained to Josephine, "les she be blaggin' ta all witha 'ha penny' ta giver."

Josephine watched in horror as the scene unfolded before her. She clutched the fabric of her dress before shooting forward and grabbing Sully's arm.

"Stop!" She shouted, pleading with him. "Please, she doesn't need to be hurt!" The girl cried out and tears pricked at her eyes. She didn't want anyone hurt because of her. She tried to rip his clawed hand away, wishing she had more dtrength. Not only physically, but mentally. She felt so feeble in every way at this moment.

"Stop?"

Sully cocked his head, holding the still croaking Gommi still. He blinked once, twice, three times, staring at Josephine in complete silence. His hand around the old woman's neck unwound, and she let in a shuddering gasp. Wet eyes looked gratefully to the girl.

"Than...thanka..." she wheezed. Sully stroked the crone's hair. She flinched away from his touch, but he pulled her closer, his face still completely devoid of expression.

"I ne'er be hurtin' dear Gommi, precious Gommi. Ne'er." Sully promised. His hand tightened around her hair and yanked her head against the counter with a crack. She tensed for a moment, then relaxed, crumpling to the floor in a lifeless heap.

"Ne'er," Sully cooed, lips drawing back once more into a manic smile. "An I ne'er be hurtin' ye, too."
