Lire didn't understand the reasoning behind it. It was rather odd to be frank. All the Winged had wings on their backs, just like Dragons. Why was it then that her king had traded Lire out for slavery to the Winged Consulate? And why did she have to take Lydia around on her back despite she being capable of flight herself? Lire wanted the answer to these questions, but, as a slave, she had no say in what her life meant to Lydia or the Winged Consulate. What mattered was her loyalty and the role she played in the assurance of mutual benefit. On the one hand it was a very good thing for Lire. Most of the smallest of Dragons usually fell prey to the larger ones, but she had an automatic change to grow big and strong, and she aspired to become one day, a formidable Dragon that could shake entire continents with her might.
Reality though was a harsh thing. Lire was doomed to slavery, but at the very least, her mistress was on the path of world dominance. She wanted a Kingdom for herself, and after being expelled from her own, Azuria was in her sights. That gave Lire a very handsome opportunity to go on a rampage. She'd never had human flesh before, but she heard it was a delicacy. Her mistress Lydia Graveborn provided her with this chance to fulfill her desires. "Go on a rampage in Azuria, and make me proud," Lydia had said, as they were perched down by a tree in the woods a few miles away.
Well time to shine! The Dragon raised its head up from the treeline, and as she slowly raised both her wings and spread them for flight, colour started returning to her scales. A dark blue hue replaced the green, as a mighty few flaps later, she was airborn. It was beautiful day, the sun shone bright on her back and she could turn her head around and see everything for a few miles around. Azuria was a city state, with most of what was not the city being farming or other odd communities jotted here and there. Lire rose higher and higher, until her shadow on the ground was but a dot, and if anyone decided to look up, they'd just see a black silhouette that resembled a bird. It wouldn't be until she came down a long way that they'd recognize it was a dragon.
She loved the sensation, the wind brushing against her face. A protective membrane around her eyes prevented any sort of damage she might suffer at these altitudes as she broke through clouds in her way towards the capital. Didn't take her more than a minute, she was practically right on top of the city. The style of entrance Lire chose was somewhat dramatic. She, closed her wings and decided to free fall. It was exciting as her entire body came crashing towards the city, gathering momentum by the second, until a minute later, she was about a thousand feet from the city. Lire opened her wings to try and slow down. It did slow her down, but she'd still crashed into the market and destroyed a few stalls along the way, and crushed a few under the weight of her body.
Her roar rang out, loud and clear, meant to attract attention. A row of ember flame was shot down the street as she scrambled into her feet, standing at 10 feet tall, bigger, yes, but not big enough. Her tail picked up an unconscious man who was bleeding a lot from cuts to his head and the side of his chest. Her prehensile tail brought the man up front, so that she could take a bite out of him, not clean, after which she threw the corpse aside. There'd be plenty of time to plunder. Right now? Right now, she was going to go on a rampage. Pieces of the man's flesh and chunks of his face fell from her mouth as Lire let out another thunderous roar.
Meanwhile,
Lydia had more than a few reasons to hide, even if she was not responsible for the Dragon attack that was about to happen. She smiled at the guard at the gates into the city, as she put on her hood again. She was a fugitive to a Kingdom, a survivor, but a fugitive nonetheless. Back where she came from, her picture was on every village house, every wall and every tree in the Kingdom. Wasn't enough that they killed her parents, they wanted to kill her too. So of course she lied. Didn't want to get caught with her real identity, which, if you think about it, even if they do bring her in for questioning later, Lydia can say why she lied about who she was, and if they wanted to take her back to her own kingdom? Well they were sending her off to her death.
An odd grin appeared on her face as she heard Lire's roar. "W-What was that!" She shrieked as she stumbled to the side of the street against the wall. It wasn't just her. Nearly everyone and the guards looked spooked. Off in the direction of the market, Lydia saw smoke rising up, sign that her dragon was at work.
