Image Iris...... a nice name. He thought. When she eyed his food, he looked down at it. There were still a few left in his hands, so he offered one to her. He could always get more when he checked into his hotel for the night. "Well Iris, its nice to meet a lion from the pridelands that didn't want to take someone's head off outright." he chuckled.

His eyes flicked to the gang he had seen earlier, but they had vanished. That prickly feeling of dread didn't vanish with them though. Mitchell stood up, rolling his shoulders slightly and cracking his neck. "You're not alone are you? It's dangerous to be here at night, alone, that is. Especially in this part of town..." he paused and sniffed the air, trying to see if he could catch wind of them. He didn't like this. Not one bit. Just... escort her to where she's going if she is by herself, then get outta here. he thought quietly.

((Yeah, I'm up here for a week visiting my family so I'll be off and on. I'm checking the site regularly via phone but I respond on my laptop whenever I get a quiet moment XD))

Iris took the offered food gladly knowing there was nothing wrong with it since Mitchel also seemed to be eating it. She didn't smile at his joke, mostly because she knew it would have been true of Adris was here instead of her. If anyone so much as looked him the wrong way he very much would have started a fight and it would have ended with the other species bloody and quite possibly dead. Her only reply to that was, "Yes...I suppose everyone's lucky it wasn't one of my brothers."

Her eyes followed his to an empty spot and then back to him. "It is dangerous, I've heard. I'm alone, but so are you," she smiled a little for the first time since starting a conversation with Mitchel, "If you're telling me to be careful, you should be also," there it was, a hint of the pride ingrained deep in her veins. The pride wasn't just the name of a group of her kind, it was how they looked at themselves as the kings and queens. Despite being alone, Iris unconsciously felt just that.

(I completely understand! Enjoy your visit though, don't stress xD)

Image Mitch smirked at her words. "Oh, don't you worry. I can handle myself well enough." he chuckled. "I apologize if I've ruffled feathers. I meant it simply because I saw a group of unsavory sort lurking near that alley. If you're alone, they may target you. Hell, they may target me too. Might be safer to travel together, at least to get you wherever it is you're going. I can get back to my hotel soon enough on my own." he had half a mind to stretch his wings a bit, but stopped; no one here knew who or what he was. Of course, he could escort her wherever she was headded, probably to meet with some friends or something.

His musings were caught short when a rustle behind them made him turn. It was the gang of jackals and hyenas from before. Mitch smiled disarmingly at them. "Evening, lads. Can we help you?"

One of the bigger, rougher looking ones stepped forward. "Yeh. Ya can help us by givin' us all yer money. Both of yous. And whatever else yous gots on ya that's worth a pretty penny." he growled.

Mitch looked at each of them, then glanced over to Iris. "Well.... we could run, or fight." he said with a shrug, slowly pulling his hands out of his jacket pockets.

The small smile in Iris's face widened a bit. "Then I can also protect myself." The young lioness was smart enough to pick up on his choice of words. Feathers? Hm...if he a bird of a sort? She thought hard, her smile disappearing as she assessed his feathera. He had no beak or even an outline of one as most birds did. And if he was a bird, he definitely was not a chicken from the meat he had been eating earlier. He was a predator...and a bird? As Iris thought she lost track of her surroundings as she had been accused of doing.

A stinky smell she would recognize from any where hit her and thoughts left her mind. The rivalry and long standing hate for between Hyenas and lions was one that ran deep in their blood. An infant would know to disperse a hyena before they are even taught to. While Mitchel responded to their appearance respectfully, Iris felt a primal rumble through her teeth. At their words, Iris wished she could tell them she carried on her nothing worth money, besides actual money.

Mitchel's question caught her off guard until she realized she was not home. Any other day she would rather run because that was her strength ahd half the time, that was the best option. But when it came to jackals and especially, hyenas, running was for the weak. And Iris was the daughter of powerful pride leaders. She was not weak. She watched Mitchel pull his hands out of his pockets and right then, she liked the stranger. "This group is a special one, lets fight." The lioness waited for nothing, lunging as the one that spoke, claws unsheathed.

Image As Iris leaped forward, Mitchel lunged at a closeby jackal, his hands balled into fists as he threw a punch that connected with the hyena's jaw. He smirked with grim satisfaction when he felt the crunch of bones breaking, and the howl of pain from his attackers. Two others leapt on him and the male dodged, narrowly missing one's attack, but getting slashed at by claws from the other. The dragon male growled in pain before lashing out, his tail lashing at his oppressor and knocking the wind out of them. The other made a grab toward his face, and managed to pull off his hood to reveal the rest of his face; the horns he was concealing, and in that moment, Mitchel's wings snapped open, unbidden, in a show of anger as dragon males are prone to do when fighting on the ground.

His glowing blue eyes glittered. cat's outta the bag now... he thought. Onlookers gasped, and several of the gang members immediately paled. Mitch's sneer grew wider as he continued to fight, throwing his fists into folk as well as using his tail to lash at others and his wings to knock them unsteady. "Now look what ya did, you no good varmints. Went ahead and spoiled my little evening trying not to disturb anyone. You picked the wrong people to mess with, worms." he growled.

For all his fighting, he made sure not to land lethal blows. Bad enough he was revealed to be a dragon, but a dragon who this far out of their territory was unheard of.

People talked. Word would get to his brood faster than he would like. After this scuffle, he'd have to make a hasty exit to.... wherever he was going next.

Iris's class met the then skin as she made contact with the first hyena. The matted beast began to run around Iris while attacking. Iris did her best to defend herself until finally, she used the unconventional method of tripping the speeding hyena and kicked him so hard he slid away to some onlookers who quickly moved away. She hissed as she felt a sharp pain on her leg and turned around, her eyes narrowed to slits, definitely promising death. There was a roar from Iris as she jumped atop of the hyena that had sank its teeth into her calf.

Her claws sank into his shoulder and made their way up to his chest them upward to his neck. The lioness then paused, turning to see that the hyena's eyes was not on his attacker but on something else. Iris followed his eyes to Mitchel, her own widening. Frightening glowing eyes, large powerful wings and a tail...it took Iris some moments before she registered what he was. Lions did not concern themselves with dragons and the only reason she knew of them were from bedtime stories which dragons had played the supporting roles. She sheathed her claws once she saw the opponents would not fight back.

Her eyes followed all the new additions she hadn't been able to see before, finally seeing the horns. She didn't know much about dragons, just that they existed making the current object of observation something more out od a book than real. After a moment of just staring Iris finally spoke.

"Oh my goodness!" She soundes less like the lioness from before, wary and cautious and more like the younger version of herself getting a good surprise. "You're a dragon!?" No wonder she didn't know his scent...her eyes were wide, the barely there smile from before now stretching wide on her face. Even in the state she was in Iris noticed his body movement and the crowds around. She attempted to reach out and tell him not to leave yet. However, one step in Mitch's direction sent a sharp pain through her leg. She had a few scratched but the bleeding mark from the bite of the hyena was looking nasty. Iris looked around knowing no body was going to help her. "Um... nice dragonman..." She was beginning to doubt his name was Mitch, "So many questions...but..." The need to ask for help was plain to see, but Iris's prids got in the way to the point where she began to hop by herself, "Nevermind..."

Image Mitchell huffed as the rest of the jackals and hyenas scrabbled out of the way and made a hasty exit. At that moment, Iris spoke. Mitch's eyes widened a little, forgetting where he was. He let out a soft laugh when she said 'nice dragon' and shrugged a little. "Oh relax, I'm not gonna eat you. Lions are too stringy." he said with a wink. "I'm kidding, i've neve eaten lion, and I don't plan on it any time soon.... but, we do need to keep moving. Word's gonna spread fast and I'd rather not get arrested for 'savaging those lesser than'. Prone to happen even if we're just defending ourselves. Come on." he drew his hood back up over his face and beckoned for her to follow, taking a few paces and turning back around to see if she would indeed come with.

Part of him wondered if she'd be different. Most other animal peoples that he'd encountered would make extremely hasty retreats once they knew what he was. Dragonkind were always deemed far more dangerous with others, with claws, wings, whiplike tales, and of course, the elements that burned hot within their bellies:

Fire.

Iris watched Mitch unsure if she should be backing up like her instincts were telling her to. This was one of the main reasons she was unlike her kind. Any other lion would have retreated immediately, injured or not. But Iris was partial to staying because he was virtually not dangerous until the jackals and hyenas showed up. Thinking back to the moment she had first spoken to him, she begun to realized that he had seen the troublesome group, which was probably why he had warned her earlier. All of Mitch's actions were harmless, friendly even, until they had been approached with bad news.

She wanted to roll her eyes when he said he'd never eaten a lion, but part of her was still very wary and hoped he didn't plan on trying one today. As she began to step back Iris reminded herself of why she had left and came to the city. This could be her chance...if she didn't go with Mitch, she knew everyone would be too afraid to talk to her. She wouldn't get the full experience she wanted and her whole point of leaving the pridelands would have been for nothing. So Iris took a step forward and began to follow him.

She fell into step with her companion, leaning forward at times to glance at his eyes, then leaning back to watch his tail and his horns. "Do you feel awesome or do you just look it?" She asked completely honestly. The man looked like a living breathing character out of a book though every feature was interesting, frightening, and beautiful. Even to Iris, she knew he held a lot of strength. Her question came from a truly honest and curious place.
