[RP] Just Another Fantasy RP [Annasiel]

Post by Myrn » Mon Jan 15, 2018 6:55 am

The sun was well high into the late spring sky. About noon for those who care enough to know. On this particularly warm day, a ragtag of odd ‘friends’ if you could call them that, happened to be in a bean field. They were hunting the groundhogs that had been destroying the farmer’s harvest the past few days. From his perch atop a nicely sized branch, Mikael watched his fellow companions with amusement as he leaned against the wide tree trunk.

Good ‘ol Clive doing his thing with the rodents like some kind of Prince of the Forest gig. At least someone was managing with the actual work here. Unlike the other two, he’d assume at least one was more capable than the other but he’s been proven wrong once or twice. This being another case it would seem.

Agrippa was her usual violent self and stabbed the earth in a rage for having lost to the groundhogs in a small game of pop the weasel, or was it whack a mole? Well, she wasn’t pleased about it all and he’ll be damned if she used him for stress relief later.

Ceres was something special that’s for sure. She thought it would be best to think like a groundhog in order to catch them. And that’s why he won’t be bothering to try to help her out of the ground anytime soon. Mikael could still see her legs kick in the air while she no doubt dug deeper to find the burrow.

He did his best to suppress the chuckle that managed to escape him. Instead, he went back to shuffling his deck of cards and wondered other possibilities to entertain himself.
He seemed the sort to even dream in suave.

Agrippa

She thought this would be an easy gig. She thought it would just take a bit of time to dispatch the rodents, just a few jabs of her sword. Unfortunately, the stupid, putrid little balls of squealing meat had no intention of standing still.

"God-fucking-dammit!" she shouted, stabbing blade into the loam where a tauntingly cute face had been moments before. Just a moment's rest. This was exhausting as much as it was frustrating. She leaned on the hilt, breathing heavily, stealing a glance at the others. They all looked happier than her. Clive was covered in a swarm of the pests, a content smile on his face, no doubt aiming to release them somewhere elsewhere. He'd have no part in supplying the party with meat for their travels. No, the big idiot was as pacifistic as a Oemish monk, regardless of the total lunacy the stance, at times, brought.

Ceres, of course, was playing an even bigger fool, head first in a hole like some sort of human fence post. And Mikael... oh, that bastard was laughing. Probably at Ceres, but she couldn't take any chances. He was going to get hell tonight.

Clive

"Can you please move somewhere else?" the giant of a man asked the groundhogs in a soothing voice. They made no sign it had heard him, though he knew that didn't matter. Animals, for whatever reason, listened to him. They had ever since he'd put down the sword. Maybe it was a quality of his paladin magic, maybe they just sensed his warm aura. He had no intention of questioning the blessing. Instead, he knelt down, allowing the tiny beasts to drop from his arms where they hung, and scurry off into the forest.

Smiling serenely, Clive rose to his feet, surveying the rest of his team. Immediately, he caught sight of the disoriented Ceres, and approached her chuckling softly beneath his breath. He grabbed her ankle, and with a heave, she was dangling face inches below his own.

"I have caught the queen of the groundhogs," he proclaimed, booping her on the nose with his free hand. From somewhere behind them, Agrippa retched dramatically.

Ceres

Ceres had failed to spot any groundhogs even if she had crawled her way to their main burrow. She could feel Agrippa's sword pierce the earth over and over and felt steps closing in behind her. Buried deep, she struggled to get out of the hole until she felt a familiar large hand around her ankle. The sound of dirt falling came before her sneeze as her nose had been tickled from the debris. Ceres was quick to congratulate Clive on his successful capture with a dirt smudged cheeky grin and a rapid succession of claps in delight.

"Yay~ You caught me Clive!" She giggled when he booped her nose. "My snoot had not been primed for the boop, now I must do you a bamboozle." Ceres nodded her best solemn nod.

Clive

Clive blinked twice, flabbergasted. Was this some sort of code? Ceres had been a bounty hunter before joining the party, and he knew those who dealt in underground vocations often used secret languages to communicate. Knowing Ceres, though, it was most likely gibberish.

"I am... done a bamboozle," he conceded, flipping her right-side-up and setting her gently on her feet. He brushed some of the debris from her hair, and tugged at the neck of her shirt. "You're covered in dirt. That was very silly of-"

For the first time, he saw, truly saw the field. The ground, once loamy and tilled in even lines, was now rutted in large swathes. Careless piles of soil checkered it chaotically.

"Do you think the farmer would mind this?" he asked, turning to face Agrippa. She was, after all, a farmer's daughter. She slowly began to shake her head.

"No, no, not at all," she replied dryly. "He'll love it."

With his confused defeat, Ceres pumped her fist in victory. And now that she was right side up again, Clive doted on her and gently brushed away the excess dirt. Ceres helped by patting herself off only to create small dirt clouds.

"Hm?" She thought Clive was going to lecture her again but instead had asked Agrippa about the Farmer minding about the dirt piles.

"No, no, not at all, he'll love it."

“Even with all the new holes?” Ceres added.

“Oh, most definitely. He'll positively adore what you've done to the place.” Mikael commented from his perch. “In fact he’s on his way right now.” he had waved his hand dismissively in a similar fashion to previous times. That was actually him projecting the image of the farmer’s field at a much better condition than it really was. He had been casting minor illusions on the farmer to make it seem that they had all been working diligently including himself rather than the disaster it was becoming. If Mikael played his cards right, they would all be out of the Farmer’s hair long before he noticed what really happened.

Mikael slid off his perch and landed perfectly on his feet with minor noise levels. Just as he had joined the others, an older man with a lengthy beard dressed in brown weathered overalls and a large hat. If Mikael didn’t know any better, he’d have assumed the man was a rather tall dwarf. However, he was just an extremely hairy old man named Da’gum Withersnaps.

“Thanks agayn faw the hand fellas. Lawd knows ay need all the help this here tahm av year with all av the rodents ayn' my arm a-bein' the way it is. Ay can't thank y'all enough.” The old man shook Mikael’s hand vigorously with the one hand that wasn’t bandaged in a sling before handing over a handsome sum of copper colored coins with a mysterious bearded man’s face on one side.. “As done promised here is y'all's pay, a three fitty links.”

Clive's brow furrowed in disbelief, but he didn't say anything in reply. Either by fate or by pure dumb luck, he didn't seem to notice Mikael's illusion coming to form, instead seeming to accept his and Agrippa's words for truth.

"Our pleasure, sir, though I find your acceptance of... some of our methods surprising," Clive said in reply, eyes shifting between Agrippa and Ceres before returning to the farmer.

Agrippa cussed under her breath.

"It's time to go. Now," she hissed to Ceres and Mikael between clenched teeth, grabbing them both by the collars and pulling. Clive went on, again oblivious to the wrongdoing under his nose.

"After all, though the problem may have been solved, it seems - from my perspective at least - that more damage was caused than good. I know not the ways of farming, being nothing more than a simple hire, but will this not be troublesome to repair?"

"It's time to go. Now."

“H-hey!” Mikael blurted as he fumbled when Agrippa dragged the two. It was difficult to walk in such manner with the height difference but at least immediate distance was gained. He twisted away from the hold and quickened his pace to keep himself from being placed into another hold like so. Ceres on the other hand kept pace with Agrippa even though she was still moving backwards. Confused as to why Agrippa needed to be sneaky, she whispered over to her now that they were at a safer distance.

“What about Clive? He's all alone over there with the old man.”

--with Clive--

"After all, though the problem may have been solved, it seems - from my perspective at least - that more damage was caused than good. I know not the ways of farming, being nothing more than a simple hire, but will this not be troublesome to repair?"

“What do y'all mean about damage? ay don't see nothing awful wrong with- what in tarnation? What done y'all do ta my fields!? Ay done said get rid av my rodents nahwt do the job faw them!” The old man hopped in disbelief as what once was a fine crop of land, had become nothing more than a pile mushed up ground.

“Where done that there whippuurr snappuurr run off ta? Ay'll rip him ayy awful new one when ay get my hands on him.” Da'gum waved a shovel at the retreating forms of the trio in a huff only to turn to Clive who was still there.

“Ayn' y'all! Y'all been a-watchin' this here lot thay whowwl time, why ain't y'all stop them!?” The old man had had enough and brandished the shovel at Clive menacingly for an old broken man. “Why ay oughtta. Get off my property lest ay get thay ...uhh authawities!” Correction, he was a crazy old broken man with a shovel who decided to chase off a younger man in his prime who could have easily incapacitated him.

Clive

With a nigh serene calm, Clive grabbed the shovel blade in one hand, pulled it out of the angry farmer's hand, and set it gently on the ground. He took a swift step forward, planting his other hand on the man's shoulder. It wasn't the most ideal positioning, but it did keep an image of colloquiality while giving Clive control over the farmer's actions. As non-threatening as he could manage while still maintaining a ready pose.

"Rest, friend," he said in a level tone. "My friends may have wronged you, but I will make reparations."

He reached his free hand into his belt bag, motioned for the farmer to hold out his own, and counted off a sum of links double to what the man had just payed.

"Hopefully that is enough," Clive continued.

Agrippa

"Where the fuck is Clive?"

They'd escaped a safe distance, and the farm was no longer in sight - but neither was the tall man. The farmer didn't seem strong enough to overpower someone of his size. He was a pacifist (sic. pussy), though, so maybe the wrinkled apricot of a buzzkill had gotten in a lucky shot. If that was the case, he might very well be hobbling after them like some kind of demented grandpa.

A shape appeared over the crest of the nearest hill, and Agrippa prepared herself to kill an old person.

“Did you think he’d honestly be back by now? Clearly, Mr. Witherspoons was made aware of the state his crops were in and that means he’s either trying to assuage the old man or maybe, I don’t know, plans to drag us all to the temple again.” Mikael prattled.

“Are we going to the temple?” The genuine question came from Ceres who had taken to climbing trees to keep a lookout and to spot Clive when he did come that is. She had grown fond of the temple as of recently, however, those in the church did not enjoy her company one bit. With good reason, some could say.

“No- maybe? Possibly. It’s ahh.. More than likely? Don’t quote me on that note.” Ceres seemed to have accepted Mikael’s answer and resumed her favorable position in the trees. She wasn’t lounging like Mikael normally did, nope, she prowled instead. The figure on the hill caught her attention. She was quite sure it was Clive and a delicious idea stuck. Perhaps it was more memory than an idea but it felt like something fun and Ceres loves fun. She would wait for Clive to get closer of course.

“Target acquired huhuhu…”

Agrippa

"Oh," Agrippa said simply when she caught a better glimpse of the approaching figure. It was Clive, all right, his face a stony mask of disappointed stoicism. All at once, her gut sank. Great. The big oaf had probably told the farmer everything, and knowing him, traded away their souls or some shit to compensate for their flagrantly immature acts. It wasn't her fault that stupid farmer hadn't specified he wanted his field in one piece.

"Mikael, how much did he pay you?" she whispered sidelong to the lanky man, giving him a nudge in the ribs for good measure.

Clive

This was behavior unbecoming for anyone who walked in the goddess' good graces. Clive knew his friends. Though they seemed rambunctious, rude, and destructive, they were good people at heart, and didn't intend to cause the harm they had today. Doubtless, they would accept his paid penance with open arms, readily choosing light pockets over heavy souls.

Yeah, right.

He sighed. Sometimes it felt like he was the only one keeping them from turning full criminal, and it was frankly exhausting. As he neared, the faces of Mikael and Agrippa confirmed his suspicions. But where was Cer-
