"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."
- Arthur C. Clarke

In an alternative universe, a few years from now. Many countries around the entire globe were absolutely devastated by the impact of the third world war, also known as The Nuclear War. The impact of this war was so powerful that many minor countries were completely wiped off the map. This horrific war was caused by rising tensions between multiple countries around the world. After merely months, the war came to a swift end as casualties skyrocketed to the point where only 30% of the original population was left. Everyone knew that a truce had to be made before humanity ended up destroying each other, and the planet along with it. And so it was done.

The war caused quite a few technologies to be lost, and many economies and ecosystems were built from the ground up again. It took approximately 200 years to return back to the Information Age, however, within the later years of that period, an entirely new energy source was discovered. It is said to be the result of the leftover radiation caused by the nuclear war. The radiation manifested itself deep underground, reacting with fossil fuels and the like. The material was known to produce energy that is 5000x as potent as uranium and is very expensive to extract. What was created was the energy source known as Immense (some say 'Infinite') Potential Energy Source, or better known as IPES (Eye-Pes). IPES was quickly developed so mankind can harness its power, allowing it to speed up technological advancements. Within seemingly no time, mechas became the new tanks, and exo-skeletons became basic training to many military services around the world. Despite these military advancements, the world was still at peace. Or was it?

While not very known to the public, powerful countries began minor disputes over land that was very much affected by the nuclear war, which is said to contain high amounts of IPES. However, among those countries, Japan was the one most affected by these so-called "disputes". Pre-Nuclear War, it was well known that Japan was one of the leaders of technological advancements, and ever since IPES was discovered, Japan outdid themselves. They were the first to experiment with the new energy source, creating the first prototypes of IPES powered Mechs. This intimidated the other countries which soon followed suit. However, Japan was able to harass the energy in one additional way that was kept as top-secret, only the top brass in the government and military would know about it. This additional technology turned IPES into a catalyst for super-tools named "Minervas", like the Roman goddess of wisdom. Minervas had powers that could only be described as magic. They could be super-weapons capable of manipulating elements, and tools that could revive the dead. Possibilities were seemingly endless. However, there was a catch. Different Minervas are compatible with different people, many would not function at all if given to the wrong person. Therefore, it became a custom that Minerva-users are responsible for developing and creating their own Minervas. However, it seemed that countries caught wind of Japan's advancements in technology, and it is predicted that they might launch an offensive anytime soon.

Japan needed a counter-measure in case of attack, while the working population were capable of using mechas as a defence mechanism, Japan feared that utilizing the general population would cause panic and spread fear. Therefore, they decided to launch an undercover operation. To increase the number of people who can utilize their greatest weapons, Minervas, the military planned out a special course for very select few middle-school graduates and high-school students to undergo specialized military education focusing on the use and creation of Minervas. The first and currently only academy created to support this agenda is called "Nagekaido Academy". Which is now ready to bring in the first batch of high-schoolers dedicated to harnessing the powerful Minervas. How did the military pick out the right students? Some students were recommended to the academy by people in high places. Some were subtly tested for their aptitude in the general use of Minervas, as it was a talent that some have and some don't. Some were promising geniuses. Some show potential and high interest in a military career. However, despite the many methods of recruitment. The prototype class, Class 000, is going to be a small one.

================================================

The Year is 2237, Nuclear War was now a thing of the past, with the power of IPES, humanity managed to restore the majority of the damage caused by the war. Only a few deserted areas are still radiated. However, civil technology remains almost unchanged from 2017, with some minor improvements like the cheapness of electricity and such. Life was fairly normal. However, for a very select number of students, a letter appeared in their mailbox. The sender wasn't named, nor a return address was given. There was only the name of the student, If that wasn't strange enough, the "paper" the letter was made from was surprisingly tough, anyone who tried to rip it apart or use scissors to cut an opening was met with failure. In fact, the only way to open up this strange letter was by placing the recipient's finger on the seemingly red wax seal, that had an elegant sigil of a warrior woman's head on it, Minerva. This seal actually had a very small fingerprint scanner on it. This kind of technology was normally only used by the military. Inside, there was a message printed on fine paper:

"Greetings, [Recipient's full name]

I hope this letter finds you well. Before you read any further, know that the contents of this letter are highly classified and shall not be disclosed to friends or family under any circumstances. If you are unwilling to comply, then please set this paper aflame immediately. If it is found that any information is leaked, related parties, including you, will be heavily fined and incarcerated under the charge of leaking classified information. If you are ready, then please read on.

You are invited and highly recommended to attend a prototype military course that, while also granting you the education of a regular military high school, specializes in the training of the creation and usage of classified military-grade technology, known as Minervas. A Minerva uses IPES to create magnificent and impressive weapons and tools that can perform the supernatural and seemingly impossible. It is technology currently exclusive to Japan, and it is imperative that this is kept secret for as long as possible. There could be many reasons why you, in particular, you were chosen for this secret course. More information will be disclosed on site. Additionally, you do not need to worry about any tuition costs, as they will be paid for. Accommodation, catering, and uniforms are also already prepared for you within the academy's campus. A representative will be sent to your home to retrieve you on April 10th in the morning, please be prepared to depart by at least 6:30. Do not worry about your family, we will assure you that they do not need to know about attendance to our academy. This is all you need to know, as of now. I hope that you are able to attend this course of ours, but we understand if you feel intimidated not to. Whether your choice may be, our representative will hear about it on the day of your retrieval. Please set aflame this message after noting down the date and time you must be prepared. It is important that this message doesn't fall into the hands of others. As for now, farewell.

- Kind Regards, Lieutenant General, Nagekaido Kagerou, Director of Nagekaido Academy."

Ruuga stood still in his school uniform, waiting in his father's office. He was fully ready to depart to his new academy, mentally and physically. Since most necessities were already provided for at the academy. He only had to bring his few outfits, sleepwear, and his personal belongings, mostly books about aviation. His travelling suitcase ended up to be rather small. The boy almost found it disappointing. He had been standing here for a while now, at least 15 minutes. Though, it was mostly because he wanted to come early so he wouldn't irritate his father. The door swung open and a well-suited man stepped it, it was no other than Konoha Tokiyama. At first, he ignored his son, walked over to his desk to place down an important looking file. Before turning to look at his son, he didn't react to his appearance. "Ready are we?" He asked, something about his voice implied that he wouldn't take "No" for an answer. He was always like that. "Yes, sir." Ruuga replied, he had already double checked his belongings last night. "Let's go then, our train is waiting." The older man spoke, not waiting for a reply, before leading the way. Ruuga followed. It was a bit hard to see by looking at his face, but he was getting a bit excited about the new academy

They reached the new train station by car. "It's imperative that we leave early, the train won't wait anymore than a minute." Konoha began speaking, as if he was giving a briefing. "Your classmates will all be taking the same train, we set up a route so that we're able to collect most of them." The two left the car, and climbed up to the station platform. "Here's your train card." Konoha said as he handed him a white card with a blue accent across the bottom, nothing seemed special about it. "Supervisors will take the first passenger car, while students will take the second. Take this oppurtunity to know your new classmates a bit more. Don't swipe your card on the wrong car." Ruuga merely nodded. But was surprised to hear that his father will be coming along for the trip as well. "Regretably though, some student will have to arrive at another time or by air, so some students would be missing initially." The boy wondered why would that happen, but he wouldn't want to ask his father about that. After that, they just sat and waited quietly at a bench, which Ruuga found a bit awkward, especially since no one else was at the station. It wasn't too long until the train, a Shinkansen with only two short passenger cars, was in sight. Ruuga then stood up and headed over to the second car, before swiping his card at a card reader next to the doors. Only then did the door open for him. Just as the door closed behind him, Ruuga already felt train beginning to move again. It seems that they had to be quick about collecting the passengers. They didn't want stowaways after all. The boy realized that he was alone in the car, he must be the first student to be collected. The car was like one of those VIP cars in a shinkansen, with plenty of space, tables, and comfy seats facing each other. He placed his luggage in the compartment above, and waited patiently on one of the seats. His posture remained flawless the entire time as he gazed out into the ever changing scenery. He wondered what kind of person will come in next.

DD checked her luggage bag making sure she had clothes, sleepware, half-finished blueprints, unfinished projects and all her tools, her room for the first time since she lived there being full on clean. As she walked down stairs out of the apartment, sipping her favourite type of tea out of a travel mug, that being cream and 10 sugars, she saw a man standing out the front of the building “DD Oz, I assume?” the man said in a stern voice. “Do you see anyone else with a bag up at this hour?” DD said sarcastically as she sipped her tea “So we going to get going or we just going to stand around like a bunch of idiots?” DD continued, “Yes, let us get going to the car” The man said as they walked towards the car. The ride was shorter than DD expected but that was possibly due to her tinkering with one of her unfinished gadgets. As they reached the station she was handed a blue striped card “Keep this on you and when the Shinkansen train arrives you will board the second carriage, while I board the first, understood?” the man said as they sat down on the bench. “Yeah got you.” DD said

While waiting around she pulled up the jacket arm, took off her glove and started tinkering with her arm, she then noticed the weird look the guy was giving her, she then rolled her eyes “Wow, it’s almost you haven’t seen prosthetic limbs before.” DD said sarcastically, he starting sweating lightly as he looked away “er no, I just wasn’t expecting someone so young to have one” He said as DD put the tool back in her stocking, put her glove back and her arm jacket down as the train came into the station. As she swiped the card into the thing next to door and entered, dragging the large, stuffed bag behind her. As she got onto the carriage, she whistled at the luxury of it all “Hooley dooly, this is already impressive" she thought to herself. As the train started again she saw a young man probably around her age looking out the window, as she placed her bag next to the seat opposite him, she extended her right arm ready to shake his hand “G’day, I’m DD, I uh didn’t realise we were supposed to be in our school uniforms, so uh pleasure to meet ya.” She said in a slight Australian accent “Mind if I sit across from ya?” She said with a small smile

The morning after... That's what Nozomi's head repeated over and over ever since he woke up, only stopping when his mind went blank for a second. It was about time for the agent to arrive at his house and he was making sure nothing was amiss. A medium sized baggage laid in front of his bed with all the clothing and personal items he needed, including some of his notebooks which contained his latest advances on the AI Assistant he was developing. It was all in order, check marks all around his mental to-do list, including bringing his digital pad. It worked pretty much as a phone, but it had the assistant program installed in it. He swiped and tapped across the transparent screen a few times, making sure he could activate it easily once he left to save him from awkward moments.

Then, the doorbell rang, it was time.

He grabbed the baggage handle and tipped it towards him, balancing the weight on the wheels so he could roll it across the floor on his way out. Nozomi opened the door and greeted the man outside; a tall, serious-looking, military agent who looked at him almost confused. "Takeda Nozomi-?" "Nozomi, yes!" He spoke after the man, confirming his identity while nodding, noticing the man's puzzled look. "Anything wrong?" "Your file, says male. Clearly there was a mistake from behalf of the transcriptor." It was that. "Oh, no, I am a male! Was that all? I'm willing to go." The man took a deep breath and swallowed, leading the way for both into a car.

It was clear for Nozomi why would the man be confused, his appearance today was specially tailored to give a strong first impression after all. His face had minor make-up on it, barely notable, yet added to his feminine appearance, with a pale pink lipstick. On his torso, he had a short sleeved white dress shirt and a black blazer on top; this overlapped with the skirt he wore, black with white outline square patterns. To top it off-- Or bottom it on? He wore black stockings and matching leather boots.

The trip felt long, specially since it was so silent, and the atmosphere inside the car felt heavy. He was accustomed to it by now. The silence was only broken minutes before arriving to the train station, when the agent explained to Nozomi that he should go into the second car, as supervisors will take the first. Right as he got off the vehicle, the agent gave him his train card with an awkward look, Nozomi simply smiled. He walked near the line to wait for the train, dragging the baggage along and stuffing his hand on the right pocket of his blazer to check his pad before sliding it back in.

Once the Shinkansen train arrived, he used the card on the panel at the second car, entering immediately and pulling the baggage along. He was shaken slightly as the train started to move, looking around before smiling contently. It was a nice transport, though a bit empty; there were only two people inside besides him, a male and a female. Since there was no use in being distant right off the hook, he decided to sit only meters away from both and wave slightly, his baggage resting next to him. "Hello!" He said with a smile, his feminine tone showing enthusiasm.
I'm happy.

It wasn't very long until the bullet train stopped again, though, he did notice that they did miss a few stations on the way. After all, they only had to stop at stations where specific people were present. At some point, Ruuga did ended up daydreaming though. He only realized that he was no longer alone when someone behind him spoke. “G’day, I’m DD, I uh didn’t realise we were supposed to be in our school uniforms, so uh pleasure to meet ya.” Ruuga initially blinked in response. He didn't think that a foreigner of all people would be chosen to enroll in a secret military program. She was also quite dirty, kinda like how a mechanic would would. He was surprised, but not for long. "Ah, this?" He gestured his uniform with an open palm. "I only thought that this would be most suitable for the occasion." Not really sure what else to say, Ruuga remained silent. “Mind if I sit across from ya?” DD asked. "Oh, sure, feel free to." The boy seemed to be distracted as he spoke. He was wondering what to say to his acquaintance. It took a while for him to speak up again. "I'm.. Tokiyama. Tokiyama Ruuga, but please call me by my last name, Tokiyama." He never really had people call him by his first name, and whenever the rare occasion comes, he always found it a bit odd. He look back towards the girl, and only then he noticed the prosthetic arm she had. "Intriguing..." He muttered under his breath. So Oz wasn't just a foreigner, but a disabled one too. But that only means there's a good reason to take her in right? Deciding that it was too personal to ask, Ruuga left it at that. He pretty much remained silent until their next stop. Where not one, but two girls came in.

---------------

"Alrighty then Takeda-san, here's ya card." The older female cheerily handed Sora her train card as the two arrived at the station. "Thank you Akamatsu-san. For retrieving me and all." Sora bowed. Everything about the girl was either white or sky blue. Today, she wore a simple blue t-shirt under a blue and white stripped sleeved shirt, which she left unbuttoned. Below her torso, she wore white cargo shirts and sneakers. Of course, her white headphones remained on her neck. "Oh don't mention it, it's my job. Plus, finally meeting you was pretty fun." Sora definitely didn't expect this sort of buddy-buddy behavior from someone part of a secret program. But she was pleasantly surprised, so far, life at the new academy might be fun. "Oh hey, the other Takeda is here." The older woman said as she looked at another pair of a man and a younger girl. Sora was rather confused as to what she meant, and was probably going to ask if not for the fact that their ride already came. "Be seeing you." Her supervisor farewelled her before heading to the first car. While Sora followed a girl with short, black hair into the train. Using her key-card after she did. Whooaa.. She was pretty impressed with the interior of the train, she never been on a ride as fancy as this before. She wondered for a moment if the academy would look the same. She also noticed that, apart from the shorter haired girl, there was an odd pair of people sitting together on the train. It seemed that her classmates wouldn't be "normal". Which was a rather exciting prospect.

"Hello!" A cheery voice from the girl that just entered came from a table. She had quickly seated already. "Hey there." Sora greeted everyone as well. She decided that she might as well take the seat opposite the short haired girl. "Sooo.. I'm Takeda Sora. Call me whatever you like. What are your names? Might as well know each other sooner than later right?" Sora spoke in a soft, but confident tone, one can even call it motherly.

--------------

Ruuga was the first to introduce himself, again. "I'm Tokiyama." This time he didn't bother saying his first name. "I studied in a military boarding academy for the majority of my life, so pardon me if I seem.. Strange. To you all."

As the train moved, DD had sat down, opened her luggage and pulled out one of the many half-finished projects and continued working on it. As she continued they made a stop as two girls came in “Hey there” and “Hello” were the greetings DD heard as she stopped and looked up at the two-new people sitting down “‘Ello, names…” DD said as she got up and walked over to the two-new people to shake their hands. Unfortunately for her as she moved the bolts and nuts she thought she had tightened ended up coming looser eventually falling to the ground along with the rest of her arm. When she heard the KLUNK! of metal hitting a floor she looked down at her arm and bit her lip “Well, fudge, this more than awkward” She said confused before her eyes widened in realization “Ohhhhhhh, must of Leftie loosied not righty tightied. Shoooooooooot” she said as she picked up the arm, the other pieces and set them on one of the tables. She then walked over to Sora and the other girl and extended her only arm for a handshake “So anyway G’day, names DD, pleasure to meet the two of you. Now the pleasantries are out of the way, excuse while I reattach my arm.” She said with a smile as she sat back down, pulled out some tools and started reattaching the arm. As she did so with a mouth full of tools she asked “So, what’s your two’s stories? and I'm just wondering causes Tori over here is a military man and I despite my nationality am a great hardware creator”

Nozomi's eyes widened in surprise after the new girl introduced herself as Takeda Sora, it wasn't strange to share last names, since his own came from a long tree of vast family; this girl could be a relative or just coincidence. His attention shifted to the girl who arrived before him, whose arm had fallen on the ground. "Wait, arm?!" He blinked twice. "Oh, it's a prosthetic. He realized after a closer examination. He tilted his head as the girl shook his hand, introducing herself as DD. Almost immediately, the other blonde in the room said his name, Tokiyama. It was an interesting group, and he seemed to have at least one thing in common which each of them, confirmed after DD mentioned being a hardware creator.

"I assume you made that arm? That's so cool!" Nozomi reacted, shifting in place to face the group. "Well, it's nice to meet you all, I suppose it's my turn." He cleared his throat, crossing his legs before speaking. "I'm Takeda Nozomi, I excel at programming and engineering, and I'm even working on my own AI assistant!" He shoved his hand into his blazer, pulling out the transparent pad and swiping on the screen, then showed one end to the group. "Look at this..." He giggled nervously. "Good afternoon, Kotomi!" After two beeps, a young man's voice came from the gadget. "It is still nine in the morning, sir, did oversleeping all week long made you lose sense of time?"

Nozomi turned it off with a swipe and put it back into his pocket. "Isn't it awesome? It still needs tweaks, but I'm gonna turn it into a sentient being one of these days. Seems like I have something in common with you all, hope we can get along!" With his display over, Nozomi waited for the reactions.
I'm happy.

Sora raised her eyebrow questioningly as the foreigner's arm fell to the ground with a clunk. It definitely wasn't something Sora seen before. "I knew today would be interesting but wow.." She wondered if she would actually see something cooler than a hand-made prosthetic arm. She was able to tell, as the design seemed crude, but definitely functional.“Ohhhhhhh, must of Leftie loosied not righty tightied. Shoooooooooot” "Huuhhh.." The girl's manner of speech was definitely of a foreigner's, it actually made Sora a tiney bit nervous. She'll grow out of it though, hopefully. The girl extended her hand, which Sora accepted, and introduced herself as DD, and a hardware creator. Which is probably a vague way to say "mechanic". "Nice to meet you DD, that's quite a cool arm you got there." Sora complimented her intelligence.

There was only one more person in the car who haven't introduced themselves yet, the girl who was at the same station at her. Curious, she turned towards her as soon as it was her turn to speak. "I'm Takeda Nozomi-" "Oh!" Sora exclaimed as soon as she realized that they have the same surname. It wasn't too surprising, but to think that they were to share a class together could make things awkward for teachers. The girl brought out a sort of transparent phone, and spoke into it. A voice came out. "Whoa! You made that by yourself. That's pretty amazing Nozomi-chan!" The people here are all certainly intriguing and unique in different ways. After Nozomi finished her sentence, she made a suggestion. "Needless to say, you should be careful about making it sentient. 3 Laws of Robotics and all that."

It's now her turn to tell her story. "Aahh, I really don't have a talent that impressive compared to you both, in fact, I'm not really sure why they accepted me." Sora brought out her phone, which unsurprisingly has a white color. As it was initially connected to her headphones, she pulled off the audio jack. "I'm just a young music artist. Though, I do have quite a few followers. Ever heard of AOSORA? It's my online alias." With that, Sora began playing a track she made. A calming, rather classical track that reminds you of the brightness of nature, and new beginnings. She found that it might be fitting to let everyone listen to it as the train gradually takes them to their destination.

---------------------------------

"My, this is rather.. Soothing." Ruuga made a small comment on the music being played. "You're all rather amazing people, I can see why you're all chosen. It's a bit embarrassing to be the only guy here though." So far, it seems that they accepted more girls than he would think. He also find the situation bizarrely uncomfortable, after all, there were only guys in his boarding school. Not knowing what else to say, he tried to divert his attention to the scenery outside. He was never a good talker, talking with girls was much more difficult...

“Honestly, I’ve been meaning to upgrade my arm to be less crude, but I will get to it eventually” DD said as she spun the arm around to see if it was tightened as Sora introduced herself and her music “Well, the music is nice and all that but I probably wouldn’t put it on my playlist, just my personal taste in music, I guess. Personally more into the loud, rocky music” she said calmly, as her left eye started twitching as she looked back and forth between Ruuga and Sora “Just ignore it, it’s a bullet train, so we’ll be off it before their symmetry drives nuts” She thought to herself “Oh, I gotta something for that music of yours, Sora, if your willing to accept it.” DD said as she opened up her bag and started working through the messy insides until she pulled something small out only about 2 cm in diametre and handed it to Sora “Here ya go, a speaker, sure it’s small as all hell, but it’s very loud and managed to get bluetooth on it.” DD said with a smile “Now if you’ll excuse me I wanna keep working on some other projects before we gotta get off.” She then grabbed a random project from her bag, a small blueprint and flopped onto the seat and continued working on the thing “So Nozi I’m pretty sure we’ll get along very well I mean come on what better pair than a software and hardware creators working together. Also before I forget, was the AI glitchy or did I hear wrong? ‘Cause I distinctly heard it calling you sir” she said plainly as she studied the blueprints and playing around with the object like a kid tossing a cube “Uh, I mean if you're fine with talking about it that is” She said turning the blueprints upside down to make sure she had it the right way

Nozomi's eyelids dropped slightly a few seconds after Sora's music played, it was relaxing and calmed his mind; maybe he has listened to her before, his playlist was filled with music from scattered genres. It was then when Tokiyama spoke and Nozomi's eyes darted at his direction, sparkling with an excitement he came across every time he met a stranger, it was almost his pride. To say that phrase. And then, DD added yet another connotation.

"It's a bit embarrassing to be the only guy here though."

"Also before I forget, was the AI glitchy or did I hear wrong? ‘Cause I distinctly heard it calling you sir"

He cleared his throat, addressing DD first. "Well, before I forget, I can help you with your arm one of these days. If they have top military technology, they should have a 3D printer, we have one where I live! So I can do some digital tests and print the pieces, then you'll do the magic of putting it together.~" He waved his fingers during the words 'Magic' and 'Together', trying to mimmick a magician's gesture. Then, he looked at Tokiyama, standing before leaning towards him. "Why are you embarassed, Tokiyama-san?" He raised an eyebrow before looking for an empty space besides him.

"I'm sorry in advance, I'll sit here for a moment." He walked past Tokiyama and sat besides him, rubbing his shoulder against the blonde's. With a relaxed look in his eyes and a sideways smile, he looked into the other's eyes. "There is no need to be embarassed, Tokiyama-san!" His eyelids opened for a moment, following the emphasis on his tone before falling down again. "After all, we're both boys.~" He finished his phrase with a playful wink, letting out a giggle afterwards.
I'm happy.

With a careful hand, Kagami smoothed out the sheets on her bed, working out the last of the stubborn wrinkles. It wasn't her best work by any stretch, but at least the bed would look presentable while she was away for however long she would be away. Would there be any holidays? The letter had stressed secrecy, what would communications back home be like? Dusting her hands off, Kagami stepped away from the bed, satisfied.

She went to her dresser next, and plucked out her clothes. She changed quickly, her pajamas going in a laundry hamper before she slipped on a simple white button up shirt and a knee length navy skirt that she tucked her shirt into. If she hadn't of already packed it, she would have worn the school’s uniform, but it seemed too much effort to dig it out at this point. While she slipped on her socks, she gave the room one final inspection.

Her room was as ready as she was going to make it, her carpet vacuumed, her suitcase packed with clothes which rested next to the door, and sitting on top of the suitcase attached to the pull-up hands was a second smaller bag which was filled with various odds and ends: school supplies, a small tree is a special carryer, some personal belongings. With a nod, satisfied she had left nothing undone, Kagami walked to the door, she took hold of the suitcase’s handle and with her left heel she tipped it forward and rolled it out of the room.

She heard the knock at the door as she made her way down the hall followed by the sound of the door being pulled open. Her mother’s voice exchanged greetings with that of another woman, the one Kagami assumed was here to pick her up. The other woman, dressed in a sharply cut and well ironed uniform beamed as Kagami came into view.

“Precisely on time,” the woman said brightly, “good morning Miss Hashira, I’m Ishii, I’ll be your guide today.”

“Thank you, good morning.” Kagami said with a formal bow of her head.

“If you are ready, I’ll take your suitcase to the car while you say your goodbyes.” Ishii said, carefully taking hold of the suitcase and pulling it out of the door. For a moment Kagami and her mother watched the third woman, before they exchanged a glance and a smile. Kagami stepped in and slipped her arms around her mother’s body as her mother did the same.

“I love you.” Her mother said softly.

“I love you too.” Kagami said giving her a squeeze, before she backed away, “I will contact you when I can.”

“Do your best.” Her mother said. Kagami nodded before she stepped out of the house. Kagami waved goodbye before she entered the car. And, sooner than she would like the car started to drive.

“The station isn't too far, so we should be there soon.” Ishii said, and Kagami murmured agreement with a nod. “That prosthetic is very good, it matches your eye well.” Ishii commented with an amiable tone.

“It feels slow.” Kagami responded, as the looked out the car’s window.

“Remember, yours is the second car, use this to swipe in.” Ishii said with a smile as she held out a car for Kagami to take. The girl muttered a short affirmation that she understood as she took the card. “The Shinkansen train should be along shortly, it should have made a stop or two by now, so be sure to introduce yourself properly.”

“Of course.” Kagami responded.

“And don't dally at the platform, you will only have about a minute before the train will leave.”

“Thank you.” Kagami said with a nod.

And again, much like the car, the conversation seemed to die fairly quickly after that. Thankfully the train arrived after only a minute or so of waiting. Doing as she was told, Kagami wheeled her suitcase over to the second car and pressed the card she was given to the reader. With an accepting beep the doors slid open and Kagami stepped in. The car itself was far more fancy than what she had been expecting, and like Miss Ishii had said, there were already people present. Three girls and a guy by the looks of it.

The boy and one of the girls seemed to be sitting rather close together, while another played music and a thief tinkered on a prosthetic arm.

An odd assortment, not that she particularly made the ensemble any more normal.

Behind her, the door slid closed with the whisper of greased metal moving, and Kagami bowed her head. “I am Hashira Kagami, I’m in your care.” She said, formally. She straightened, her gaze turning towards on of the empty tables near where the group was as clustered. She began to wheel her suitcase over to the table when the train began to move again, off to its next destination. The acceleration caught Kagami off guard, and she swayed, her right hand catching a tabletop for some support.
