Her dark brown irises held something that he couldn't equalize in his English vocabulary. Nobody ever looked at him like she was doing. Desperation? Annoyance? No, he was well acquainted with the feeling every time in his reflection. And he wasn't clueless. Socially unresponsible and awkward at times, yes. But he knew what admiration, envy, and pride looked like. He was familiar with those emotions but not this. He was in an entirely new circumstance. Andreas' eyebrows furrowed; slight lines creased in between and on his forehead. He listened hard while he gathered all efforts to not shut off and dismiss her words in haste. He closed his eyes briefly, so Iris couldn't stare and pry into him as he felt. His fingers twitched at his side, and he smoothly sighed through his nose. "Why? Why do you want to know?" He mumbled. If he wasn't in her personal space before, he was now. Iris was the first person that he gave these individual ones on ones, but was he finding himself reckless to do that? Unlike her, Andreas could see her weaknesses, but he thought them to be minor, harmless. Nothing training couldn't help with, but he could easily take advantage of them as he pleased. In the case that she flinched away from him, his hand slowly reached up, and the back of his finger grazed the apple of her cheek. He searched her eyes for an agenda or reasoning. "I can't disclose that, or I'll be truly vulnerable."

Iris waited impatiently for a response. It was so quiet around here that she could hear beat of her own heart. As if on cue, her heart began to best so loud she could swear it was reasonating in the training room. She saw the wrinkles on his forehead and wanted to smooth them out. It really frustrated her that he was always frowning but she refrained. She shrank back a little as he got close, her heart trying to best out of her chest now. His questions took a moment to register and even then she could only answer, "Um...you wanted me to tell you. I couldn't. So I want to know..." She sighed out. She didn't see when his hand rose, only that it was on her cheek. The warmth that filled them filled her from within. Iris's eyes fluttered in an attempt to blink and tried to speak in response to his words, "...I-I don't think that's possible .."

Andreas laughed under his breath, ending in a scoff. He might have been pushing it, taking it too far. It was beyond inappropriate for his tastes. It was cruel, but he'd say she was worse. He placed a hand on her lower back to prevent her from tripping. He didn't need her to fall at this time. "So, because you don't know the answers. You want me to tell you since I'm your teacher? And trust you?" He whispered putting his face in the proximity of hers. Her body warmth transferred to his fingertips, and he traced the structure of her jaw. "I don't think that's fair Iris..." Tilting his head slightly, he pouted as he went to hold the side of her face. Heat engulfed his hand. "Because I know probably you wouldn't be acting this way if the Nguyen brothers were doing what I am doing right now. Yes, or? If your friend, candidate Akash Jani were in this scenario? Maybe, but tell me if I'm wrong." Andreas scanned her face: her cheeks flushed. Her skin was hot. Her dark complexion concealed the blush well than if she was lighter, it'd be obviously apparent. He dropped his hand, but he didn't step away. "See, I know a weakness, and I can use it against you. You become weak and susceptible. I can't afford that."

Iris felt another chill run down her back when he felt his hand on her lower back. She was feeling a little lightheaded now and it made thinking very difficult. He was so close that she could smell him and he smelled good. There was a long pause filled with her processing his words and trying to come up with a response to his trust question, "No...I don't..." but he continued. Every touch seemed to make her hot and cold at the same time. She got chills, yet her face was flushed and she was brimming with warmth. Fair...the word floated around in her mind and the next thing she knew he was pouting. His next words made her freeze. She let out a shaky breath and closed her eyes. How did she not see this coming? As Iris's eyes opened she blinked away moisture in her eyes, not daring a single tear to form or fall. She blinked several times, attempting to cover the hurt in her eyes though it wasn't going away. She stepped away from him, one large step back and nodded. Iris couldn't meet his eyes. What she felt couldn't be explained, not with a thousand words. She shook her head and let out a breathless and humorless laugh, "I got it, captain." She would have loved nothing more than to stay and show him that she wasn't as affected as he thought. She would have loved to be stubborn and brace through all the emotions she had at the moment. But in this case, Iris simply didn't know. She always chose her head above all things. But this time, her chest felt heavy and she still couldn't think straight. Somehow, she felt like this was what it was like to have a broken heart. She supposed it was her fault for trying to make something out of nothing with Andreas, maybe it was because she felt this way the whole time and she never even knew it. She knew now. And he made his stance very clear. She let out another breathless sigh and decided bracing through was for the best. She came here to be a good spy. Iris shook her head again and ran a hand through her hair, her band coming undone. She picked it up and tied it back again. Her wall was built, and nothing was getting through. She met the captain's eyes, "What do you want me to do next?"

He was not sorry for what he had done. Andreas had to teach her something today after he couldn't teach the way he wanted to. He intertwined his fingers and flexed them back and forth. A satisfying pop forth coming, and he folded his arms over his chest. "Great. We're on the same page." The watery eyes didn't startle him, but the hurt and betrayal atempted to pierce through his hard exterior. Each of them were like a blade, and they dug into his skin. However, the marks were hardly devastating, and he brushed it all off. It was a rookie's mistake for not taking precaution and keep their weaknesses under better wraps. He wouldn't have known the full extent of her feelings if Blondie hadn't sat him down and told him straight. Though his body aches and stump pain felt like it intensified as if karma returned to him. He watched out of curiousity as she fixed her hair. She put defenses up, and he saw less of her weaknesses. Raising a brow, he saw the faint flickers of hurt through her eyes, and he shaked his head and shrugged. "I think that's enough for a first day. I taught what I needed to." Andreas disconnected the gaze and walked to the wall behind Iris to return the training hall to its normal state. Turning on the lights and opening the blinds on the windows, he headed to the locker room to pack up. The blinds whirring quietly as they uncovered the glass. He stretched his arm behind him, massaging his sore shoulder. "We'll meet tomorrow an hour after normal training for your next session. Don't be late." He called out.

Iris nodded once the captain mentioned on they were on the same page. Opening her mouth was like prying open two surfaces sealed by glue, so she abided by her body. Her mind and body were on the same page now and apparently so were her and Andreas. She stood firm, waiting for whatever else she was supposed to learn. She heard him say that was enough for the day, but somehow it was like he was so far away. Like they were talking through phone and she was getting some bad reception. Her hand instinctively wiped off her forehead though there was no sweat there. As he left, Iris muttered an "Okay," before turning back to the dummy. She wasn't really sure what she was going to do, because she didn't have any energy. If she was angry, she would have no trouble with the dummy. But she wasn't. She was disappointed, and that was the opposite of being angry. The feeling literally sucked out her energy. She shook her head as she let go of the dummy, knowing any form of training after this would be fruitless. She gave it a weak punch before turning to head out. Iris went straight to her room and took a long, hot shower before laying on her bed to sleep. Passing out didn't exactly come quickly. In fact, it didn't come at all. She just kept replaying the last scene over and over in her head. The whole time she trained with Andreas, she had felt inexperienced, unskilled, unknowledgeable which was fine. It was nothing personal. What had just happened, however, was very personal. Never in the past months had Andreas made her feel stupid. He did now. Not vulnerable or exposed, but just plain stupid.

"Hey asshole. I'm talking to you." Sophia directed the most nastiest glare at him in the history of knowing her, pinching Andreas' arm. He didn't respond; his eyes trained on at the bottom of his phone screen reading the closed captions of the show he was watching. He took his eyes off the screen every few minutes to scoop more rice in his mouth. Cleaning his tray of any stray grains, his eyes returned to the screen, and he clicked to watch the next episode of Criminal Minds. "Andy..." Ismo warned and stopped rolling the frozen bottle of water on his bruised skin to get him to pay attention before Blondie blew up. After Andreas had left the training room, he went to the infirmary for some Tylenol for his pain. His body started to feel the pain all over, and he needed a break from being on his feet. The nurse opted a wheelchair for him, and he was compliant as his stump was killing him. He showered and went down to the dining hall for dinner. Ismo accompanied him to retrieve his food, and now they were in the recreational room. Sophia showed up later not in the best of moods understandably with ditching her at the mall, then the whole thing with Iris seemed to push Blondie to the edge. Andreas ignored the chatterbox beside him and tried to keep watching the crime show in peace lacing his fingers on top of the table.

"Oh for god's sake!" Sophia reached over to snatch the water battle out of Ismo's hand. Ismo's eyes widened, and he tried to grab it back. Andreas blinked, watching his phone fall flat; half of the Finnish man's torso on the round table. The Tylenol barely had any chance to take effect, and with no mercy, the original quasselstrippe hit his bruised shoulder blade with the frozen bottle. "What Collins?" Pushing his back against the chair, he seethed out a wince through his teeth as he gripped the armrests of the wheelchair to hold back from snapping his arm out at her.

"You're an asshole! You actually want me to break your good leg, don't you?" Ismo got the water bottle back, but it was useless. Sophia had given it back willingly after she finished beating Andreas with it. The captain leaned away from from him as he tried to ice him again. "Don't." Turning his head to his assailant, he rolled his eyes. "I know. You've been calling me that for the last hour. I have the nail marks to prove it." He didn't understand why she was so upset about Iris; they weren't best buds. "You are a J-E-R-K. Manipulative piece of shit. Is that how you treat a girl who likes you? I didn't tell you that she had a crush on you for you to use it as one of your lesson plans Vogt." Groaning, he rubbed his eyes and scratched his head. Andreas just wanted to eat and go to sleep, not get scolded by a 5'4 woman. "She's a student. She's here to be a spy. Those feelings were only going to get in the way in the long term. Might as well." His head whipped to the side; his cheek stung after. "Really a student? Being a spy? You have a baton that you hit your students with! Yeah, whatever, that's your style. You produce the best agents out of this academy. But how about you stop acting hard and militant and try being human for once? Cause you're crap at it, Captain." The nerves fired off his skin. Lucky for him, the rec room was empty since he wouldn't know how to deal with the gossip floating around that he got slapped. "Sophie, to be fair, you liked Andy at one point too..." Ismo did a poor of defending the German as it ended with Blondie raising her hand threateningly. "You want to get slapped too?"

Ismo had to put his hands up in defense, nodding his head. "No, I'm good. Please keep going." He minded his business, drying the condensation off the water bottle with a paper towel. Sophia pushed in her chair roughly under the table while she shaked out her hand. "And I was heartbroken because of it. He left for two years. I was 17. Young and stupid for liking a douchebag. I feel for Iris right now cause I bet she feels just as dumb like I did. Hope you're satisfied, Captain." Collins left the room, and Ismo followed her at her call. He apologized to Andreas, collecting the plastic tray and leaving him by himself in the large room.

"But why did I have to be slapped? I'm human enough." Andreas mumbled to himself, holding his cheek. Adding on to his list of injuries, he grabbed his phone and turned off the lights on his way out. He didn't gain anything from Blondie lecturing and giving him a lesson on humanity. He fell asleep as his head touched the pillow. He became numb as slumber blanketed over him.

Iris woke up the next day with red eyes. She took another sheer, checking the time. She was way ahead of time before the start of training so she took some time checking her messages from her friends and replying. As if on cue, her mother's face popped up on Iris's screen.
"Hey, mom. What's up?" Iris resembled her mother so much, taking after her looks and personality so closely sometimes it was a curiosity what she got from her dad. Mrs. Shade was a vibrant woman who's energy was never ending.
"How's my daughter doing? I haven't heard from you in so long." The two spoke, Iris telling her mother every thing except some key things. Or course being a Shade, her mother picked up that she was leaving something out.
"This isn't an interrogation, mom," Iris fluffed out her hair, falling back on the bed with a sign. Her curls filled the space around her like she was in a dark cloud. "Alright. Don't be too hard on yourself. But... First place is always perferred." Iris rolled her eyes as her mother quotes her from her younger when Iris lost her first and only match at 12 years old. She spoke with her mother for a bit longer before hanging up and packing her hair up behind her like always. She stretched a little, while she mentally prepared to see the captain. The flashback from yesterday was fresh in her mind and she had to shake her head to get it out. She took it very personal and having the night to sleep off whatever blame or self pity she had for herself, she was now angry. It was an organized wort of angry. She was itching to be the best. She'd been wasting time with trying to do more than she needed to. She did like Andreas, but now that she realized just how much, it would make it useful to ignore it until it went away. Ava knocked on her door, Akash by her side and together they walked to the training room. When they arrived, Akash and Ava were arguing about whether or not hot dog was a sandwich. Iris would usually had participated but she was so hyperfocused, all her energy focused on one thing and one thing only. "I think this is the most quiet you've ever been. What are you thinking off?" Ava asked. Iris smiled, happy for the concern but knowing it was misplaced, "How I'm going to kick everyone's butt today," she replied simply. Both of them then proceeded to argue that no such thing was going to happen because they were to kick her butt. Iris leaned against the wall, watching the two and then shaking her head. It got quiet as the time for training began.

"Sure you don't wanna? Come on, let me cash in on my favor. Tomorrow night." Ismo attempted to let Andreas drag him to the club. Something like he needed a good lay and drink. Andreas declined him on the spot; it was too soon. He was pulled to the mall for a goose chase yesterday, and all the drama that ensued when he returned. He wasn't leaving the compound for at least two weeks. He needed a cooldown before he jumped to craziness again. "One, I keep telling you I don't drink. Two, not happening." Andreas crutched his way ahead of Ismo. He already had a tough morning, and the raven Finnish was worsening his mood. He couldn't get out of bed this morning his body stiff. The bruises seemed a lot worse the day after; the mass of colors was revolting. He fell off the bed while trying to get up, and he couldn't wear his prosthetic without having to sit after a few minutes. If Ismo didn't insist to walk with him to his class every morning, the captain would've been very late for training. "Pleeeassse Av. I helped you get dressed and brush your teeth. I risked my life getting pain meds from the infirmary." Granted, the German was very uncomfortable with Ismo touching him as he did, however, he appreciated his efforts. That was before he was forced to wear the blue sweatshirt that Iris got from the mall. Ismo picked it out from the back of his closet while sifting through his collection of black shirts, popping the tag off and saying "Oh, when did you get this? Wear this. Or I'll leave on you on the floor and go tell your students the sauce."

Andreas didn't understand the last part but knew he was up to no good. "No. Go teach your class." Shooing the imbecile off, he braced himself for training today. All eyes were on him, and he was well aware that the extra attention was because of the bright colored hoodie and lack of his other leg. He began the session as he normally did though. His eyes traveled the room to see who was here, and of course, he saw Iris. "Okay, everybody's here good. You brats did well yesterday. I have high hopes for some of you on your post-examinations." Regret didn't linger in his chest as he continued his scan of the room. "Now you guys know about taking advantage of your opponent's weaknesses, but something goes with that. Emotion whether it's rage, jealousy, or panic. Let's say you find yourself in a tight spot and start getting desperate, and there are no agents around to back you up. You must and cannot let emotions drive you. You'll lose sight of the mission and endanger everyone else. Practice control."

Iris watched Andreas walk in, carefully controlling everything she felt and thought which left absolutely nothing to think or feel. Her eyes pulled away from him as his scanned the room at the right time. Ava had nudged her as if to remind her that the captain had walked in. She looked back at the captain and crossed her arms, listening to his words. It was a funny topic since she felt perhaps that was what she felt right now. However, she was a calm sort of angry, hyperfocused and ready. It was like she had chugged some energy drinks and was waiting to crash any moment.
Everyone listened to the captain's every word, nodding in understanding. Iris's face was bland, no smile or frown in sight, just staring, waiting, listening. Ava nudged her again, "You good?" Iris nodded, waving her off, "Yeah, yeah," she returned to listening and waiting for the drill to practice control.
