With all the fronds turned into fiber, Asgear was pleased with the amount of fiber bindings they had managed to acquire, this should last them over a week or so. Taking the bindings and rolling them together to make a cord, he wrapped it around his mid-section befire pushing himself up with his spear, offering Lily a hand up as well. Moving further west, he began scouring the beach for something, else eyes scanning back and forth along the sand until he spied a large branch that had been washed downstream after the storm. Snapping the branch into a smaller, straighter piece, he then began searching for a rock that would suit, and although this took longer, with several rocks he picked up being tossed into the grass, he finally found a large, flat rock with a straight edge. Kneeling down once more, Asgear used the edge of the rock to cut and inset into one end of the branch, until eventually the rock fit snuggly inside it. When he was satisfied, he reached down and pull out a few bindings, lashing them around to keep the two of them together.

"Fiber will save your life out here Lily, it has done several times for me" Asgear explained, sweat beginning to form as he continued to bind them together "From helping you build shelter, to repairing weapons on the go, it can also be used with some aloe vera leaves to make bandages. Helps to numb the pain and speed got he healing process. Here."

Finally finished, Asgear flipped the axe in the air and caught it again, testing the bindings to make sure the axe head was in place. Crawling over to a nearby log, he struck the wood several times to make sure it was capable of cutting down trees, but mostly it was test the head under heavy use. With it still firmly in place, he handed it over to her.

"Dead useful. Can be used to sharpen wood into spears, to defend yourself, the skin a kill. It can also be used to make more specialised tools like a knife or a pick up break open-"

The snap of a branch across the river drew his attention, and his head turned to see three other Forsaken making their way down along the waters edge, each of then carrying a makeshift maul or mace, just a round rock tied to the edge of a stick. There was two men and one woman, each only wearing sandals made of stone and fiber loincloth, looking across the river at them. The two groups stared at each other for a moment, before one of the men waved over, recognised Asgear. He waved back, watching as they continued on their way, not moving until they were out of sight and away from the sandbar linking the two sides together.

"You need to be alert and perceptive, you can tell alot about a person by the way they move and their weapons here" Asgear said, turning to look at Lily now that they had moved on "The weapons they carry aren't meant to kill, but to disable. They also carried cord in their other hand. Manhunters"

"Slavery isn't unusual in these lands. Those manhunters often sell the men they catch to the Yokuni to be sacrificed and eaten, women are taken and used until a slave caravan comes from the north to take them for the same thing. Anyone man with a trade might also be taken north rather than be eaten" he finished, loosening his grip on the spear "Be vigilant, it would not be an easy life for you if captured"

Holding onto the makeshift ax, Lily stared at the rock that formed the blade. A spear would be useful but her best line of defense was this tool in her hands at the moment. The sudden turn of his head and the snapping of twigs drew her attention. At the sight of other Forsaken, Lily gripped the ax tighter as she waited. If they were Yokuni she would be ready to fight. Though, as one waved to Asgear she became confused. Hearing his explanation, Lily felt another shiver run down her spine. Ilxion would've had no remorse hiring Manhunters if it got her what she wanted, and even for a moment, Lily thought the same. But she quickly shook her head and pushed the idea down. They would sooner take her than work for her. Knowing that slavery was decently common in the Haunted Lands, Lily lessened her grip on the ax. She was not a slave yet, and even if she was captured she could find a way out.

"So they take some of slaves north, near the mountains?" Quickly she glazed toward the mountain ranges far to the north from where the pair stood. As he eyes narrowed, she did her best to determine how far the mountains were from her position. Rumors couldn't be completely trusted, though the idea of blacksmiths in the north made it her main goal. "Is it safe to assume the Yokuni have a camp near the mountains then?" Waiting for his response, Lily weighed the options.

She did not know any other way around to where she needed to go. But even in the Oasis Lily could find something useful. Stone tools were old fashioned, but they could bring her closer to her goal. "One step at a time. Learn." Holding the ax, Lily looked around for trees she could use to make more tools with. Noting the tallest to the smallest, she turned her attention to where Asgear had pulled rocks from the water. Keeping a close eye out for any animals that would try to attack her, Lily searched for a rock in the shape of a rectangle. While it took her some time, she did eventually find a rock that would work fine for what she wanted.

"Aye, the caravans come down from the north in force, dozens of hardened men that are willing to make the trip for food and pay" Asgear explained as she began to search around in the trees behind him. Taking out his water skin, he dipped it below the waterline and held it there until the air had completed drained. Taking a swig, he sat down at the waterside, staring across the crystal clear waters "That is where I learned about the cities north of here, but they do not take stragglers. If you want to journey with them, you will have to have your wrists bound in iron"

The sun was nearing it's full height, and he could feel sweat running down his back from the heat. Often wearing large amounts of clothing was more preferable to the scorching sun, which is why he did feel bad he had nothing much to offer Lily for protection, but he could only do what he could. Resting his spear against his shoulder, he thought of what they had to do next. There was no need to hunt with the fresh kill still in his home, and they had already gathered the materials to patch his home and create weapons and clothing. He could sense the girl wanted to explore, but to do so alone without him would likely mean her ending up in the clutches of some manhunters or worse, on a spit in a Yokuni camp. Drawing out a quick map of the Haunted Lands again, he sat deliberating their next move.

"The Yokuni do have a camp there but you must think of them more as a confederation of tribes and not one people. United by their god and cannibalism, each camp is comprised of only a few members so that they do not have to compete for resources" Asgear explained, standing back up and walking backwards to get a better look at the mountains, walking into the water as he scanned the horizon " They mostly keep to themselves, unless it is a holy day for them in which case...Ah hah!"

Asgear pointed north-west of them, towards a small pillar of smoke. It's black tendrils reached up to the sky, disappearing into the deep blue "That is the Pit. Built into the side of the mountains, It is a holy place for the Yokuni"

"Every holy day, they will converge on the Pit and have competitions and ritualistic combat for the amusement of the others. When enough have died, they sacrifice the hearts to their god before roasting and eating the bodies over a mammoth fire pit" Asgear continued "Some priests remain there to keep the fire burning, though not to the extent it can reach. You can see the lights and hear the chants from my home at night"

Hearing his exclamation, Lily sprinted back to where Asgear was. Her ax in one hand was raised high, though as she saw that he was fine she lowered the tool. "You nearly scared me to death." With a hiss, she looked to where Asgear pointed on the horizon. The light flecks of smoke were not that obvious until she focused on the position of the Pit. While the smoke was not as prominent as Asgear said it could be, Lily muttered to herself. "That is disgusting... You may become hopeless here but you should at least try to hold onto your decency..." As soon as the words slipped from her mouth, she realized who would've said them. Quickly she lowered her head to apologize when she noticed the sand and dirt beneath her feet.

Setting down her ax, Lily quickly dug her fingers into the dirt and attempted to ball up the substance. Each time she dug deeper she took a handful of dirt and tried to smash it into a ball in her hands. For the first few times the dirt just fell apart, but as she dug deeper the dirt and sand began to stick. A smile crept to her lips. "Yes! Oh yes! This will work." Looking around, scanning the nearby trees and fronds, Lily found a few longer fronds. Swiftly she dashed over to the plant and with her sharp fingernails, she cut the plant frond. Running back to where she had dug into the dirt, Lily pulled off the fronds and began to weave them together.

"Baskets, I will need a few baskets full to make a furnace..." Lily continued to mumble to herself as she weaved the fronds together to make a basket. The suns gaze on her, while it did sting slightly, she did not sweat as much as Asgear. And her exposed skin did not burn at the warmth, instead Lily felt quite comfortable as she went about her work. "Asgear, do you know how to find clay?" With her hands weaving the basket, Lily kept her attention on the weaving while her voice carried her question.

Finding clay was simple, though making it was a little more difficult. Asgear had a few bowls that could be useful for her purposes, though Lily dared not use them for what she needed. She did not want to try his patience by becoming overbearing. Still, she knew what she needed. Lily could make a minor forge for simple tools and even minor iron implements, but she needed his help.

"Clay? No, I've never had need of it. Everything I've used has been made out of wood or stone" he answered, pushing himself up and making his way over to her. He saw the basket she was weaving, and her frantic digging in the dirt and couldn't help but be confused. Some bird flew up in the distance, and he could hear a quiet rumble, but he paid it no mind. He knelt down and grabbed the dirt she was digging up, rolling it about his fingers "You know-"

Asgear suddenly stop, feeling the rumbling from the west grow louder, and he felt the earth beneath them starting to shake. Taking up his spear, he turned to west and waited. More birds flew up high from the trees, and he could see in the distance the palm fronds shaking violently. Then he was them, huge buffalo moving in a stampede, running at them at break mean speed. Turning, Asgear ran towards Lily and grabbed her. Unable to reach the sandbar, he threw the two of them into the water, sinking beneath the lake. As he pushed himself to the surface, he watched as the buffalo ran nearby, churning up the earth and sending sand into the air. The stampede must have lasted several minutes before it passed. Pushing his hair out of his eyes, he grumbled with discontent at being wet, looking around to see where his spear had went. It had sunk down below him some few meters, making him have to dive down low to recover it. Moving onto the land, he dropped down onto his back breathlessly, his clothes waterlogged and dragging him down

"That...was not normal" he grunted, looking towards the west. He had never seen a stampede before, something must have spooked them...

As the ground shuddered, Lily paid little attention. That was until Asgear grabbed her. The sudden grapple made her feel quite concerned, though as he sent them both into the water Lily saw the buffalo. While watching the large beasts stampede Lily desperately prayed to any God that would listen. "Safe my basket, please..." It took time but as the stampede fled, Asgear exited the water with Lily following. Desperately she looked for her basket that she had begun to make. Though, as she found it, all she found was crumpled pieces. "Damn it..." With a hiss, Lily collected what she could. If she wanted to make a basket she would need more fronds. "Every time things are looking up..."

While Lily continued to collect what fronds she could there was a splash. Quickly she looked to find Asgear was gone. "That man makes quite the fish." She thought as she moved to the edge of the water. As Asgear came back up with his spear, Lily couldn't help but smirk at his displeased look. Her previous thought was quite wrong. Apparently, he was more of a land walker. Hearing him call the stampede unnatural, Lily looked out to where the animals had come from. Unable to see anything, Lily turned most of her attention back to where she had been.

Once again Lily searched through the sand, though this time she looked for her ax. Remarkably she found the ax unscathed, only buried lightly by sand that had been kicked up by the animals. Surprise held sway over her mind for a moment before she took the tool and looked to Asgear. "If they are that scared of something, I assume it would be prudent for us to go back to your hut." Slowly she moved to his side with the ax in her hands. "Unless you want to meet what sent that stampede?"

Asgear gave it some thought for a moment. The only thing in that direction was the Forgotten City, no one else dared make their camp that close, and the buffalo would hardly startle at a few humans running at them with spears. After a moment, he shook his head.

"We will return to my home. There is little point investigating while weighed down with water" he grunted, sitting upright with water dripping off. Grabbing the spear, Asgear stood upright "Come"

With nothing more to say, he pulled back his headwrap that was doing nothing now but getting water in his eyes. He trudged back to the sandbar, slower now that he carried the water in his closed, dragging his feet through the water until they reached the other side. Tracing their steps back, he brought Lily to the ledge he often used to climb up to the ledge his home sat on. Three medium sized ledges saved the steep climb up, and so Asgear leapt up to reach the first ledge, hoisting himself up with his upper body strength, and soon his small hovel stood in front of him. Stopping to help Lily up the last ledge, he led the way back back, and wasted no time in undressing. Standing outside, he removed all his clothes with no shame, shaking the outer coat and trousers of the sand that now clung to them, leaving them on the roof to dry. Removing his boots, he tipped them up to let a torrent of water fall on the dry sand, before heading inside. Wrapping himself in one of his blankets, he took a spare cloth to run through his long hair, before tying it up with some of the fiber he brought home. It was often said to him he looked half his age when he raised it into a bun, although the silver and white in his hair from the stress of the Haunted Lands saw the end to that. The fire by now had burned low, but he didn't top up the fire, knowing the heat of the day as well as the fire would nearly knock them out. Setting his spear next to his bed, he settled down and continued to dry his neck and shoulders.

With a chuckle, Lily followed the drenched man out of the water and toward his home. The stampede had come from the west, and further out in that direction she had spotted a jungle. Though she dared not leave or do anything until she knew what Asgear had chosen. If she was going to travel alone, she needed to make a clay forge so she could at least make an ax out of iron. But if Asgear was going to go with her, she would have to try and make a couple spearheads with iron. That would take time, digging for resources, and patience. While Lily had some experience with patience when it came to forging and blacksmithing, she didn't know how he would react.

Carefully she followed him up the steep rocks to his hut. When they arrived and Asgear began to undress, Lily quickly went to the opposite side of the hut. With the fronds she had, Lily began to try and make a basket again. The water that coated and weighed her down felt cool and did not fully disturb her as much as it seemed to disturb him. If it were winter then maybe Lily would be furious that she was drenched, though she had little care for it.

By Asgear's recollection, there was iron to be found in the north but there was also some in the Oasis. All that had to be done was some digging and mining. Lily knew well what was required to make iron. What types of rock held the iron ore that she would have to smelt. "It is everywhere, all you have to do is look deep enough." She muttered to herself as she continued to fashion herself the basket. With luck, she would be able to make a couple of rough clay bowls before she began to refine more clay for her forge.

Tenderly as she continued to weave the basket, Lily sighed when she realized she would not have enough to finish her basket. Leaning back, she listened closely for any notice of anyone nearby. Asgear was on the opposite side of the hut, and there was no sound of anyone else near her. Laying back in the sand, Lily mumbled to herself. "I can get iron, that's all well and good, but I need flint and steel too... I need a way to dig deep enough to find everything. And I need something I can use to sift through what I find..." With a light groan, Lily moved one of her hands up and massaged her forehead. "Ok, step one, baskets. Next, sifters... Just one step at a time Lily..."

"You're grasping at straws Lily" Asgear said, turning to lift his feet off the floor and onto the bed. He had been paying close attention to what she was talking about, foolish notions of iron and furnaces "There is a reason why there is no blacksmiths in the south, we do not have the materials to work with. No coal, no iron"

He remained silent for a moment until he attention was away from him once again before he made his way over to gather some of his spare clothing, dressing quickly and making his way over to the table. He began to butcher the meat for their meal tonight, taking the cuts of venison and turning them into small chunks once again. Taking the hide, he carved out a small stretch of skin and took some of the fiber bindings they had brought earlier. With his knife, he poked some holes in the hide and wrapped it round into a waterskin, threading the fiber through several times to keep it water tight, finishing the top of it with a tie in order to deal it. It was much like his own, and he threw it in her direction.

"Focus on survival for now. Learning. We have no chance at the Mountains of Madness together, but there may be anything way around" Asgear explained, sitting down next to her "An ancient city could have roads leading past the mountains, but that is something we can sort out tomorrow. It is from that direction the stampede came from"

"Then there is word of a city. An actual city, founded by the Forsaken where it is said you wouldn't know the difference between it and any other city in the Imperium. Agriculture, trade....that is where we will find the iron and furnaces. For whatever you want to create"

In truth, Asgear had often looked forward to building a home on the outskirts of that city explained to him from the northern traders. To be able to live a life, take up a job or trade, and forget the terrors that stretched across the land. That was his dream when he was alone, but perhaps with this woman he might be able to gather a group there, to escape and return to his people. If they still were there, they could lead another rebellion, with the Emperor having to fight external wars as well as the internal rebellion. Yet until that time, it was nothing but a pipe dream.

His words made her blood boil. Even if she was grasping at straw, she rather preferred it to doing nothing. Sitting up, Lily sighed and set the partially made basket to the side. "Be more human..." Taking a few deep breaths, she calmed herself and turned just in time to catch the waterskin. Learning about this ancient city, Lily looked as Asgear. He knew much more about the Haunted Lands than she dared dream. While her nature was a bit abrasive, she desperately held her tongue from making a sarcastic comment. She needed him much more than he needed her.

"Well, if I could create what I wanted to here then it would be easier for us." A slight smile showed on her face as she hugged her knees against her chest. As she focused on the weapon, Lily realized how much she coveted her creation. She was so singularly focused she had lost sight of other important factors.

The ancient city would have to be their best way to get past the mountains as Asgear had said. Though the stampede that came from the same direction was an ill omen. The beasts did not run around the pair, so they were not afraid of humans. No. Whatever had sent them scurrying was much worse, and they had to be prepared. "I'm not the only one getting anything out of this." Carefully, Lily looked to him and saw a gleam of hope in his eyes. "Whatever you want in the city from the north, once we get there, I'd be more than happy to help with."

Her smile shown bright displaying her beauty. Lily knew well that her looks could be used to her advantage. But in the case of Asgear, she meant her smile. He was kind to her and had saved her life earlier. She had to at least attempt to repay the debt.
