Lua was taken aback, the expression of shock and confusion spreading over her face before returning to neutral. Her hand adjusted on one of the plastic bags of food. "I'll see what i can find." Without another word or acknowledgement of his offer she began to walk out of the alley. Escort her she wanted to laugh in disgust. How could someone so vile think she'd take him up on that offer, especially after an encounter like that? Lua never botherd looking back to see if he was following her, she was too tired and in shock to even care.

The angel pushed her aparement door closed with her boot after entering. Robotically she put the bags down on the kitchen counter and began putting the items away. Making her way to the living room she sat down on the couch, using her toes to kick her boots off. She leaned forward, elbows on her knees, before her face collapsed in her hands with a sigh. "Wow! Didn't know getting groceries was so tiring." Lua quickly stood, her fight or flight being triggered until realizing it was Rowan standing on the balcony. How long has he been there? How did I not see him before? "What are you doing here?" Lua swallowed trying to calm her nerves. "Oh hi Rowan! Nice to see you too!" Rowan mocked as he crossed his arms leaning against the opening of the sliding door. With a chuckle Lua sat down once more. "Sorry." She sighed. "You just startled me." Rowan's brow furrowed, the setting sun seeming to like his red curls on fire from behind. "You okay? You seem...off." Lua couldn't meet his eyes then, afraid he'd somehow see the truth. She waved her hand at him dismissively. "I'm fine, just tired I guess." Rowan entered the room then, coming to sit next to her on the couch. "Too many late nights watching those rom-coms?" He poked her side jokingly. "Very funny! You know this isn't a vacation for me." Lua swatted his hand away before laying back and nestling into her friend. "I know." Rowan wrapped his arm around her, pulling her close. "You should take some time for yourself while you can though. Who knows when we'll catch this guy and leave Earth."

Lua had Flashes of the encounter she had with the hunter race through her mind causing her to tense. She stood and made her way to the kitchen. "Yeah, i know. You want a beer?" Rowan watched her and she could feel his eyes. "There is something you aren't telling me." A laugh bubble out of Lua trying to mask her unease as she handed him the glass bottle. Rowan stared at for a moment, and she could tell he was trying to read her mind, glad that he couldn't. He grabbed the beer and took a swig. "You know i'll find out. I always do." Lua eyed him as she drank before giving a shrug. "Good thing there isn't anything to find out."

Seth followed the angel back to her apartment, but he stopped half-way to take a detour. He got to the apartment first, and he stood on the neighboring rooftop of the building next to the complex, waiting for the angel to come home. He never stepped foot in her apartment, but he knew what it looked like on the inside from spending many nights watching her through the windows. The best spot was the sliding balcony door, then the bedroom was a close contender. Leaning his arms on the edge, he watched the male angel on the balcony. He silently dared for him to look up and make note of his presence, to give him a reason to kill another one. With his gifted eyes, the redhead didn’t indulge him, not even with the slightest peripheral movement, and he stepped back inside to greet the tenant. The angel has returned. Seth backed away from the ledge and returned to his apartment.

Encountering angels put a routine in place as he entered his apartment. Each window had blackout curtains installed, and he never drew them open. He dead bolted the door, closed the chain lock, and tested the door handle once then twice. He took off his shoes and placed them in a bin before he stripped off his clothes to put in the washing machine. After a hot shower and a cold beer, he stood in his bedroom staring at a whiteboard. From corner to corner, It was covered in photos, notes, and scribbles. Alone with his thoughts. Why are you doing this? Humming, he stared at the connections, recalling the link analysis between each photo and detail. He crossed his arms across his chest; the beer bottle was cool against his warm skin. He had photos of the redhead friend and the overseeing captain. He put down a note that his name was Leon, and he recently tagged a new photo to the angel's friend. It was the proof of their close relationship; his arm around her shoulders and holding her close. A picture was worth a thousand words.

“I killed them because I wanted to. Needed to.” Mumbling under his breath, he brought the bottle to his lips. His eyes landed on the ID photos of his most recent kills. He had drawn the number of corresponding wings next to them.

No, taking their wings.

“I take their wings because they make me feel better for killing them. They give me happiness. It makes me one step closer to you.” He finished off his beer, and his eyes followed the colored lines. To each visited place, every person she met, and he even put down her favorite food.

And do you think you’re getting closer than you did before? Being in his head was tiring, and he wished that sleep overcame him easily. His eyes focused on the center of the large board. There were two photos, connected by a thick red line. One was of Kotori Magaki, and the other one was of the angel. Her picture was slightly bigger. A large red circle was drawn around the photo several times with a bold question mark above it. “It all connects to her.”

For the next three days, Seth continued to watch her and sought enjoyment from her unease before he directly came in contact with the angel again.

That night Lua could hardly sleep, her sense of security was shaken. The encounter with the hunter replayed in her mind as she tossed and turned. The angel lay there in the dark, mind spinning. Kotori Magaki. The name haunted her. The name of a woman who set off these chains of events. At least there was some hope now that if she found this woman and returned her to him then her people would be saved. The hardest part now would be inquiring information about Magaki without telling anyone what she knew. It almost hurt her to not tell Rowan. They told each other everything so to think she had to keep a secret from him...

Three days passed. Three days of worry and paranoia, wondering if or when he would show. It was a Friday morning and Lua prepared for a meeting with the captain. She pulled on black skinny jeans and a short sleeved, faded blue, button up shirt before bulling on her combat boots. Grabbing her keys, she quickly tossed her brown, wavy tresses into a half up, half down style and walked out the door. The angel was on high alert since meeting the hunter, constantly aware of her surroundings any time she left the house. This was quickly becoming exhausting and needed to end soon.

Lua walked into a room full of men sitting in chairs, Captain Leon standing at the front of the room, his messy blonde hair falling out of it's low bun. She stayed near the back of the room and Rowan came to stand next to her. The redhead mouthed 'hey' with a wide grin before bumping her gently with his elbow. Lua couldn't help but giggle softly and bump him back. The captain began to speak, informing the angels of the current situation and any knowledge they had on the hunter's whereabouts. Which was none. Lua almost felt sick, knowing she has seen him, has interacted with him, but couldn't tell a soul.

"And that's all I really can tell you right now. Keep alert and inform me of any new information. Dismissed." Captain Leon gestured for everyone to leave. The room began to fill with chatter as bodies began to shift and stand. Lua cleared her throat. "Sir." She said the word loud enough for Leon to hear. His head rose from his phone. Some of the other angels paused to look at her. Lua looked around nervously for a moment, swallowed and let out a breath. "Do we know anything about his motivation?" The room was totally silent then, all eyes on her. The captain shoved his hands in his pockets along with his phone. "What do you mean?" Lua looked once more around the room before pushing off the wall. "I mean, if we knew what motivated him to kill, maybe it could help us find him and stop him." Leon brought his hands out of his pockets and crossed his arms over his chest. "Are you saying that if he has a good reason it's fine?" Lua sighed in frustration. "Sir, that's not what I meant. I just meant, if we figured out why he's doing this-" Captain Leon's outer fist hit the wall behind him, people being startled across the room as a small crater formed underneath his hand. Lua's jaw clenched, she wanted to say more, to make the Captain understand without telling him what was going on, but she felt Rowan come up behind her and place a protective hand over her shoulder. A hand that also said it was better to keep her mouth shut. "Dismissed!" Leon shouted again and everyone in the room scurried out.

Lua took a deep breath once outside, unsure of where to go from here. "I think being yelled at is your kink." Her best friend's voice came from beside her. The angel side eyed Rowan as he smiled sheepishly back. "So do you really believe what you said in there? About finding out his motives?" Lua faced her friend and shrugged. "I think it couldn't hurt. It could help us form a better strategy." She felt manipulative. She was lying. But what easier way could she get the information. "I'll look into it. If i find anything you'll be the first to know." Lua smiled softly at her friend, grateful for him. "Thanks."

Lua returned to her apartment, walked to her coffee table and turned on her laptop. She began searching for any reference to Magaki's name. It had been hours of searching and research before she finally realized the time. Shit The angel had spent most of the day deep in research that she hadn't even eaten. At the thought of food her stomach began to growl and protest at the neglect. I guess I should eat something. It felt too much of a hassle to make something at home so she went to get takeout.

There was a hole in the wall Thai place about a block away from her apartment that she had found by chance. Best stroke of luck she ever had. She arrived home almost skipping, mouth watering at the thought of the meat, spices and rice. Upon closing the door and locking it behind her it became obvious she wasn't alone. The hairs on the back of her neck rose, slowly turning around to survey the room. The balcony door was open and the hunter stood there, waiting for her.

“You should’ve told me that you were buying dinner.” Seth glanced at the takeout bag and closed the balcony door. He looked around the living room, committing the room to memory before his eyes landed on the angel. The smell of spices wafted into his nose. He put on a charming smile. Wrinkles creased the corners of his eyes. “I would’ve brought over a bottle of wine.” He joked. Resting against the back of the couch, he looked over the room again, and the angel didn’t look any more amused than she did a couple of seconds ago.

He lifted his butt off the couch and put his hands in his jean pockets as he stepped closer to her. “Don’t be like that, angel. We’re business partners now. Lighten up.” He took one hand out to to brush a piece of hair away from her face. He caught the slight tense of her body and her hatred for him practically blanketed over him. He backed up slightly and raised his hand higher in surrender. “What did your guys say about me at that meeting of yours? I trust that you kept your mouth shut.” He went around to the laptop on the coffee table and scrubbed his finger on the trackpad. “Maybe I should give the army of angels some pointers how to find a single human.” He didn’t act on his taunt since he was just ruffling her feathers. “I think I can give you better information than the Google can. I have all night, so don’t let me stop you from eating your dinner.”

The air in the room changed and it was almost maddening how nonchalant he was being. Lua did tense as he moved the strand of hair from her face, his way of being so familiar with her unsettling. When the hunter backed away she stared at him a moment longer. "Make yourself at home." The angel mumbled begrudgingly. She made her way around the breakfast bar into the kitchen and began to open her takeout and devour the food. Sparing the hunter no second glance, she spoke between bites. "I didn't say anything as promised." She took a gulp of water from a cup that had been near by. "I tried to find out more-" she breathed out, interrupted by the spice beginning to work it's way through her blood stream, a light dew forming on her skin. "But my Captain wasn't having it."

Lua began to fan herself with a napkin as she ate, loving the spice and in no rush to explain anything to her intruder. "I did find something out. Well, my friend did. No, I didn't tell him either." At this point her cheeks were rosey and the apartment was feeling too hot for clothes. Lua paused in her eating, resting her lower back on the counter perpendicular to the breakfast bar, finally looking at the hunter.

"I know where your Migaki is." She crossed her arms over her chest. "I was simply doing my own research. There isn't much on her though." Lua let out a sigh, her face feeling hot. Her meal would have been more satisfying without having him around, but it was delicious all the same. Her eyes slowly surveyed his figure standing in her living room, curious as to whether this would all pan out. The heat from the spices, and possibly the humidity, was finally getting to her. She took her hair out before messily tossing it in a bun atop her head, random strands framing her face and trailing around her neck. Lua opened her mouth to say something, but thought better of it. She chewed her lip as she thought, reaching for the glass of water again. Her gaze never wavered from him, finishing the last of the glass' contents before placing it back down. "So how's this going to work, exactly?"

Seth was intrigued as he watched her eat. Infatuated with how the color bloom across her cheeks and how she avoided his gaze while she indulged in the food. Standing with his feet shoulder-width apart, he folded his arms across his chest. His stare didn’t waver instead he insisted that she bore into his soul just like he did hers. He raised a brow. He was impressed that the angel discovered Kotori in a matter of days when he spent months. The awe was readily replaced with suspicion. He dropped his arms, and he walked forward. Stopping short at the end of the breakfast bar, he laid his arms on top and leaned down to be at eye level. “Kotori Magaki. Youngest sister of three. Her twin brothers were murdered in front of her. Studied criminology at the city university.” He eyed the empty glass. Pushing off the bar top he stood at the other end, facing the angel. He traced his finger along the edge. “She had a fascination with sharp objects and creeps. Dressed to show off her most prominent assets. She could wrap any man around her finger, and they’d be at her disposal. She enjoyed playing games, and the devil was her favorite toy.” He inspected his finger then wiped it on his jeans. He connected his eyes with her. Her irises were much bluer than his. Sweat edged at her hairline. “I was the devil, and she was mine. I made a deal with Satan’s daughter to be a soul reaper, and it lasted for six months. I killed thousands of sinners before I was granted my humanity.”

“For her to only die in my arms, and you bastards killed her. It’s been eight years, and I’m still fucking pissed.” He got in her face and wrapped his hand around her throat.

“It’s strange that you delivered so quickly. Where is she?” He squeezed harder, funneling his aggression into his grip. It’s impossible. They can’t even catch me. She thinks I’m a fool. I’m being played. He gritted his teeth, and he forced himself to release her. “I won’t let you kill me as easily as you killed her. Your redhead friend Rowan will be the first one I come for, and you can have the best seat in the house. If what you say is true, I hand myself willingly and you can do whatever the hell you want to me.”

The blue of her irisis almost began to glow, a rage blooming within her at the thought of Rowan being hurt. Seemingly out of nowhere Lua pulled out a knife and had it at his neck. "If you keep putting your hand around my throat and threatening my friend...we're going to have a problem." She made sure her glowing eyes held his, making clear the severity of her threat. The angel's jaw ticked as she felt the knife resist against his flesh. She'd be lying if she didn't want to kill him. To watch the red bloom from his neck as the metal sliced so easily through skin and tissue. Have it be done and have her people safe. It took every ounce of control to pull the knife away and slide it back into place at the small of her back. "You forget. I want this over too."

Something felt off about his story. Why would angel's kill a human? They never interfered with the trivialities of humans unless the Big Man instructed them to. Lua leaned back against the counter again, palms at either side of her, touching the cool marble. "I'm still working on finding her exact location." Her fingers drummed slightly on the edge of the counter. "In short, she's in heaven. What you're asking of me isn't easy. Just because I found her does not mean I can waltz in and grab her." A sigh parted her lips in frustration. "If what you say is true, if an angel killed her, something isn't right. Angel's don't kill humans."

Rubbing his neck, Seth scoffed and straighten out his shirt. I’d kill you right where you stand. He ought to have challenged the angel to draw his blood, but he refrained. It was a reckless and impulsive move that only led to consequences. He clenched his fist. He knew what he saw that night or he wouldn’t have hunted down angels. “They don’t kill humans, but that doesn’t mean they can’t. That’s a problem for your kind. I’ve already killed who I thought was responsible.” The sense of injustice clouded over his heart. He chewed the inside of his cheek. His head started to hurt like someone was driving an ice pick through his skull. He screwed his eyes shut, and the bell tolls sounded. You demand that I help you with a deal that you made with the devil’s incarnate so you’re distracted enough to not meddle in my affairs. You have a brass set of balls. You have no right to be in my business. And a whisper travelled to his ear, and he almost missed it. Are you sure about that? The voice faded as he was mocked with laughter. He slammed his fist onto the bar in frustration. His eyes glowed. “I don’t care about the rest. I stop hunting angels. You return the girl, then you kill me. That’s our deal!” His nails bit into his palms, and his knuckles stretched white. He swallowed the lump in his throat. “Do what you need to. I just want her back.”

Lua was startled at his sudden outburst, standing up straight. She watched him carefully, her heart racing. None of this makes sense. Why would he want the girl back only to die? Was he lying about his promise? But more importantly, why had an angel killed a human? She had a feeling something else was at work and although the hunter didn't care to know her curiosity was too strong.

Something came over Lua in that moment, standing there in her kitchen with the angel hunter. She could see his pain and his struggle. Slowly, as to not alarm him, she moved to the fridge and grabbed two beers. After opening them both she gently placed one glass bottle in front of him almost as a peace offering. "Lua. My names Lua." She took a quick drink before continuing. "I said I would find her and I will. I will bring her to you. Business partner." Lua threw on the last words in attempt to lighten the mood, unsure if she succeeded. The angel took another swig before glancing at the clock. It was 8:30 and although the sun had set for the day the heat and humidity lingered. "It's hot." Without another word she made her way over to the AC unit and turned it on. The tendrils of hair that framed her face began to blow back, a sigh of relief escaping her. "It's always too hot here." Lua spoke softly, mostly to herself. She stood there a moment longer and then made her way over to the couch. There was no way she wouldn't be comfortable in or own home, angel hunter or no.

Business partner. Seth eyed the beer with an arched brow, but he accepted her offering. The thought of giving the angel a fake alias did cross his mind, but he needed Lua to know that his intentions were honest and true as he said them. He had to trust that she meant the same. The atmosphere was heavy, and he let it lingered before a chuckle escaped him. “My name’s Seth. And don’t do that again. It only works when I say it.” He shook his head and sipped from the bottle. The alcohol went down smooth, and he let out an audible breath. He tilted the bottle in his hand, plainly looking at the beer until the AC unit whirred to life pushing out cold air. “You live in a city full of asphalt and concrete. Doesn’t help that you ate spicy food.” He gulped down more alcohol and wiped his arm across his mouth. His shirt stuck to his skin. He was hot as well and moved closer to the AC, joining the angel on the couch. Sitting on the end, he rolled his nearly empty beer bottle on his forearm; the glass quickly loss its cool temperature after a minute or two. With some humor in his tone, he drank the last of the beer and set the empty bottle on the coffee table. “Have you been to hell? This is nothing compared to the underworld. You can strip if it’s really too hot. I wouldn’t be objected to that. I’ll strip too.”
