Shulin noticed the sad and distant gaze that held his grey eyes on her. Slowly, she moved her hands out to him palm up. Each time she moved her body seemed to flow through the air as if it were water. "Don't worry, I hear they are just myths anyway." Tenderly her fingers closed and she smiled sweetly to him. Though a sudden movement caused her eyes to turn back to the trial.

An elf woman dashed over the balance beam not caring to take the shield laid out before her. The arrows flew past her face and body yet none hit their mark on her flawless skin. It was only a few moments later that she made her way to the door where the riddle was set. Not a bead of sweat touched her forehead as she stopped and read her riddle. With a smile, the woman whispered her answer to the door, and carefully she stepped through the passage after the door gave way.

The Rose Queen extended a hand toward the woman who seemed to smile happily. Placing her hand in the Queen's the woman bowed her head. What was strange wasn't the familiarity in the eyes of the woman with crimson hair. No, it was the way the Queen moved and embraced the young woman. "Now this was foolish. I don't know what your mother was thinking,"

"I asked." Quietly they spoke as they held each other tenderly. "Trust me, I heard and I came." Pulling away from the embrace, the Rose Queen placed her hand on the woman's cheek gently.

"Fine, move to the rest of the group and if I notice anything bad it's back home with you Treva." A giggle burst from the elvish woman's lips as she nodded. Slowly the elf woman moved to the rest of the group who had succeeded. As she found a spot she smiled at the group and knelt near the Gnome man who seemed a little jumpy. Quickly Damaris landed on the elven woman's shoulder and the Gnome actually jumped slightly at the sight of the small beast.

“Perhaps you're correct. Though I've come to find that even the most outlandish myths have small kernels of truth in them.”

He was studying her movements, the subtle shifts and gestures, it was both extremely fascinating and attractive. The color and shift of her scales gave him the impression of rippling water, and made him realize that he had experienced so very little of the world up until now. It made him excited about the prospects of his future. He also hoped that perhaps, should they pass the tests, they could all get to know another better. Something had caught Shulin’s attention, so Lucian found himself pulling his eyes away and towards the trials once more. A rather youthful looking Elven woman was next up, a shock of red hair settled about her shoulders, looking radiant against her pale skin as it shifted in the breeze.

In truth, she made quick work of the trials. Even Lucian wasn't quite so sure he would make it, and she seemed to not even break a sweat as she walked through the gate at the finish and embraced the Queen. That was interesting. After she shared a few words with the Queen, she approached the group with an easy smile, confident and earnest. The small Gnomish man had kept to himself for the most part, and Lucian was content to leave him to his privacy, but even he couldn't help the grin that touched his lips at the man’s fright. That is, until he had noticed what had caused it. An actual dragon, or perhaps one of the other breeds? Lucian was probably staring with a dumb expression on his face, but he couldn’t hide his awe. The beast had scales of brilliant red, with sharp looking frills flanking either side of it’s head. It's long, sinuous body seemed to hurt about the Elven woman’s body and glance about with a surprising amount of intelligence in its eyes. The wing were strangely translucent, almost insect-like, though it brought to mind the wings of a faery from the stories his mother told him as a child. When he caught the Elven woman’s eyes, he offered her a nod of respect, and a soft smile.

He couldn't help but chuckle softly seeing the Gnomish man slowly back away, throwing nervous glances about.
For now it's too soon to say, "Will we be always, always?"

Tenderly she moved her hand and her fingers grazed the top of Damaris' head. The little dragon looked to the Elven woman and seemed to make a quiet growl to which she responded, "Oh I missed you too." With a bright smile, she moved him from her shoulder into her arms and held the small beast like a babe. Laying with its spiny back against her arms, Damaris looked up at the woman. But something caught his attention. It was the chuckle of the man and quickly the dragon moved its head so its black eyes could watch the man.

The Elven woman looked to the Gnomish man and nodded her head slowly trying to ease his nervousness. "Damaris here won't hurt you. He eats fruits." Though the Gnomish man didn't seem too eased by her words and attempted to slip into a shadow while staying near the group.

"What is it?" Shulin carefully moved toward the Elvish woman and extended her hand slowly toward the small dragon.

With a proud smile, the Elvish woman opened her mouth to speak but the voice of the Rose Queen cut through. "He is a Faerie Dragon. A friend I earned in the woods nearby." Quickly Damaris shifted around in the Elven woman's grasp and flew over to the Rose Queen who had her left arm extended. As the Faerie Dragon landed on her arm, the Queen turned her gaze toward the group of four. "You will see him a lot, as he often carries my messages." Slowly Damaris seemed to give a strange grin as it let out a light roar. Placing her hand on the beast's back, the dragon turned it's attention to the Queen for a moment. With a nod, the Faerie Dragon flew to Lucian's shoulder and a voice spoke into Lucian's mind.

"'Like this,' she says." After the voice had finished speaking in the mind of Lucian, Damaris flew to Shulin's shoulder. Her blue eyes seemed to widen slightly as the Faerie Dragon flew to the Gnomish man who reluctantly let the beast land on his small shoulder. Quickly the dragon then flew back to the Queen and rested itself on her right shoulder.

Luckily the shock of having a small dragon flying towards him kept him rooted to the ground. He felt his fingers twitch and his body go stiff, but before he could react the small creature had perched rather harmlessly upon his broad shoulders. Lucian took the face that the dragon wasn't eating his face off as a good sign, and relaxed a tiny bit. Even knowing that it mostly ate fruit didn't calm you much when it flew straight at you.

The voice in his mind was masculine, almost a growl. It made Lucian jump at the suddenness of the creature's intrusion.

"You speak!"

Eyeing the creature warily, Lucian calmed down, but Damaris was off to the next person.

He thought he saw intelligence in the beasts eyes, but to be able to speak seemed.. more than Lucian could comprehend. He had heard fables, that dragons were nothing more than mindless beasts, wanting nothing more than to build and protect their hordes of treasure. It seemed silly now that Lucian thought about it, but those were the stories he grew up with, and commoners loved a good drama.

Still, a faery dragon? It seemed small. Idly Lucian wondered if it would grow larger, or if it was full grown. He suspected that the dragon wouldn't get much bigger due the fruit diet it supposedly subsisted on. But when it came to creatures of magic, Lucian was by no means an expert on the subject.

It made him feel like he was entirely unprepared. Even now the world was opening up to him. Never in his life could he have imagined seeing a dragon this close, and living to tell the tail. There was so many things out there that he had yet to experience, he felt like a country bumpkin standing around with all the others.

He coughed slightly to hide his blush, averting his gaze from the others.

Gods, you continue to make yourself look the fool. At least the trail is almost over.
For now it's too soon to say, "Will we be always, always?"

"Pardon my question, Your Highness. But don't Dragons grow bigger and-" Shulin spoke quietly as she thought her question might perturb the Queen. However, a tender growl from Damaris made the Naga woman stop speaking and the Rose Queen clicked her tongue at the Faerie Dragon.

"Yes. In Vellidor, Dragons are difficult to find and are mostly massive beasts with a love of gold. Some have other, kinder, interests. Though, on Kaleth, Dragon's are of a Fae nature. I have only seen two that are as tall as a dragon from Vellidor." Tenderly the Rose Queen placed her hand on the Faerie Dragon's back and the beast seemed to recede into her hold. Anaslyn knew Damaris was a kind-hearted soul, but his recent disdain was a little concerning to her. Slowly she glided her fingers along his scales to comfort the beast as she wondered what might have made him so closed off.

Carefully, Damaris raised his head and looked toward the entrance to the practice area. That is when it hit her. It was the Faerie Queen. He could see her even when she was invisible, a special gift of his. Damaris must've seen her long before Anaslyn did, and he was trying to act in a more refined manner. As her gaze turned toward where the Faerie Dragon stared, she saw only a hint of movement and before she could act Damaris flew from her grasp toward the archway and left the arena.

"So, you have seen Dragons before?" The Naga woman seemed curious and excited as she stared at the Rose Queen who nodded her head.

"I met a Silver dragon off the coasts of the Argonne. He helped a group of rebellious Vellidor soldiers make it to Kaleth... Many died trying to outrun the Vellidor army." A somber tone took over the voice of the Queen as she turned her gaze back to the last few Initiates. The memory of the fallen threatened to crack the delicate shield Anaslyn held when she put on the mask of the Rose Queen. Still, she held back the tears and watched the trials continue toward their end.

Close to the chest Ana... Always hold your pain close to your chest and never let anyone see it...
