"We make up horrors to help us cope with the real ones."

- Stephen King

Darkness. The groan of ancient metal. The distant dripping of water.

Slowly, you regain your vision. It's dark and blurred at first, but slowly your eyes adjust. Your eyes dart around the room, looking for some clue as to how you got where you are.

But where are you? What day is it? Hell, what's your name?

Your breathing becomes rapid and ragged as you sit up, trying to get up off the floor. But as you get your legs under you, the world begins to spin again, and you come crashing down to your knees. Now you notice it. Your hands are tied together with thick rope that cuts into your wrists as you shift in the bindings. You now survey your surroundings. The room is square, and the only light source is a single circular window opening on the wall. Bright white light streams in, but cannot fill the corners of the room.

Okay, let's start at the beginning again... I'm a student at R.C Jackson High School...

It begins to come back to you, slowly at first, but soon your name, your family, your friends, it all return as you hear movement around you. Quickly, your head turns to face the noise, your eyes pick out a human shape in the darkness. A boy? You struggle to find his name in your thoughts. Jay? Jason? Yes, that's right. Jason Morris.

More memories come back, this time, of Jason. Pushing people into lockers, winning the track meet, walking the hall with the prettiest girl in school on his arm. Do you hate him? Love him? Don't care? The emotion returns, and slowly he moves his body. But it doesn't look... right. His movements are broken, and as he moves out of the shadows, you see his bruised and bloody form.

He calls your name, slightly surprised. "Wha-what are you doing here? I thought I was the only one he got..."

"Who?

Before you can finish, you here the large bulkhead door creak, and the lock swing. Quickly, Jason scurries back into the corner and tries to hide inside the shadows. You try to follow, but you aren't fast enough, and you freeze as the door swings open, and a tall male figure steps inside. You remain frozen, as his heavy footsteps become closer, the metallic creak of a metal bucket hurt your ears as they make their way across the room, and finally stop right behind you. Slowly, you turn your head.

Image

"Here, I brought you some water..."

His voice is deep and cracklely. He holds the bucket above your head, dripping brown water unto your face. Slowly at first, he turns the bucket up and pours the water into your face and into your mouth. It tastes like mud, and smells worse. You sputter and cough as you struggle to breath again. Before you can regain yourself, he grabs you by the collar of your shirt, and pulls you up to his face, hidden behind his mask. He sniffs twice, and lets out a rancid breath. "Now that you're awake. I'd like to bring you up to speed..."

With his arms, underneath his long coat, he pulls you roughly across the room, and presses you up against the wall. "You ever watched a horror movie? Where the killer slowly picks off the kids one by one as they run around the woods? This is a lot like that... but I think you'll notice one big difference." He grabs you harshly by the shoulders, and thrusts your head out of the window.

Image

"Where are you gonna run?"

You hang from the edge just long enough, until he pulls you back through the viewport and in his face. "Ever been on a cruise, kid? My wife once took me on one. I hated every minute of it, the games, the people. The only thing I could appreciate was the booze, and the women." His breath was riddled with the smell of dog food, and his hands smelled like meat.

"So I'm at work, right? And I think to myself, if I'm gonna kidnap someone, where better to take them than to sea? The only thing I thought that cruise had right was that they seemed to have-"

His words were cut short by the sound of splintering wood, and impact on the man's head. One of the man's hands released, as he slowly turned over his shoulder. As you look over, you see Jason, holding half a board of wood. The man's fists tightened, and he began breathing heavily.

"...something. For. Everyone."

Suddenly, you are thrown across the room, and Jason tries to run back into his corner, but isn't fast enough as the man in the mask pounces on him, and in the shadows, all you can make out is large arms flailing, and the unintelligible pleads for mercy.

Finally, the man stops, and you see him pull Jason off the ground, and slam him against the wall. "If you even think of interrupting me again. You'll wish I was beating you like this. Do. You. Understand?"

The light reached Jason's face, and through a mixture of blood and tears, he managed to blurt out. "Y-yes..."

"What?! I couldn't hear you!" The man slammed the boy's head against the wall again, followed by a knee to the stomach."Would you mind repeating yourself?"

"Y-yes..."

"Yes what?"

"Y-yes... sir?"

"That's a lot better... all I ever wanted was respect, Jason..."

Before you can comprehend what is happening before you, the man's hand flies for Jason's throat, and holds him off the ground as the boy's eyes bulged out of his head.

"All I ever fucking wanted was some damn respect from little shits like you!"

You can't watch as Jason kicks wildly, trying in vain to release himself from the man's grip. But as he kicks and punches, his grip only becomes harder.

"St-stop!" You exclaim.

The man's head twists around to face you. His eyes seemed to glow in the darkness. He stares at you as he holds the boy over his head. After what seems like forever, he finally throws him into the corner and turns to walk towards you.

He grabs you again by the shirt, and holds you to his face. With a long breath, he smells you, and slowly let's out a perverted laugh. "Just this once. Because you smell nice."

With that, he grabs you by your legs, and throws you over his shoulder, balancing you on his shoulder as he walks back through the bulkhead door.

"Oh, I almost forgot..."

"Welcome aboard The Princess...

---

Welcome aboard The Princess, if you want to escape this nightmare, you'll need to depend on the only thing you have. Each other.

You are all either students or chaperones of Mr. Johansen's photography class. A class that sees many different students, some take it because it will keep up their GPA, others because they'll get to hangout with their friends in an easy class, and then of course you have a few kids who actually have a passion for the art of photography.

The last thing you can remember is traveling on a bus with your fellow classmates of Mr. Johansen's photography class. You were going on a field trip, of that you are certain, but where exactly you were going is a mystery. You remember looking out the window and not recognizing it as anywhere in your hometown of Kodiak Bay, then you felt extremely tired, and when you awoke, you were onboard a ship far at sea alongside your fellow classmates.

With no cell phones, no memory of how you got there, and no way to defend yourselves. You'll have to work together and use your teenage skills to survive...

Classified School File

Insert School Picture, unless you missed picture day. You can use real people, or drawings of people.

Full Name: (Whatever the kids call themselves these days...)

Gender: (It's 2017, Male, Female, Intersex, whatever your individual identifies as.)

Age: (Most players will be in the 14-18 age bracket, unless you're a teacher accompanying the field trip.)

Stereotype: (Are you a cool philosophy teacher who smokes weed at lunch with his class favorites? Or maybe you're leader of the cheer squad? Maybe a Punk Rocker who secretly loves to knit. This is high school, it's time to find out who you are.)

Senior Quote: (It could be something from Kurt Cobain, or one of those "meme" things the kids are into.)

Favourite Class: (If you all say Johansen's photography class, Mr. Johansen will probably have a heart attack.)

School Reputation: (Kinda falls into the Stereotype category, but more about how other players see you. What kind of impression have you left on your fellow students?)

Strength: (A thing you're really good at. A jock might be great at wrestling, or a nerd is knows how to create explosives with a chemisty set.)

Weakness: (What are you bad at? It should be equal to your Strength. For instance, the greater the strength, the greater the weakness.)

Personal Belonging: (Something simple, doesn't have to have a purpose, but shouldn't be a Swiss Army knife. It should be something that can fit on your person, unless you have a reason to have something larger.)

Embarrassing Secret: (More of a character thing, but still fun. Can be serious or lighthearted.)

Psychological File: (This is the kind of stuff the school counsellor writes in your file. It should be pretty detailed.)

Description: (A bit further into their physical appearance. Remember, the school looks at your birth certificate, so they know about that embarrassing birth mark on your left butt cheek. This might also include the clothes they were wearing when they were taken.)

Background: (I know they are only in high school, but what have they done so far? What are their future plans? Why are they in Photography? Do they have a crush? What are their other classes? What is their relationship with their parents? Have they done drugs? Flesh out their teenage lives.)

- Rules and Guidelines -

This is the Advanced thread, I don't think I need to spell every rule. You guys know not to be jerks.

- Follow forum rules. Simple.

- My word is final.

- If I say you can't do something with your character, it isn't because I hate you, it's just that it seriously breaks the game.

- Don't run off with your true love, if two characters have chemistry, don't let it take over the RP and impede the story. I love character development, but love side stories quickly kill RPs.

- Stick to the plot. Don't run off because the game is boring, this isn't a free roam where you do whatever you want whenever. I don't want to have to wait on anybody.

- If two players enter a conflict, bring it to me. The worst that can happen is someone gets kicked.

- Karma is real. If your character is being a dick to other player characters for no reason, or you're just getting one everyone's nerves, I'll give you one chance. If you continue your behaviour, I'll have fun killing your character in-game.

Points of Interest

- Kodiak Bay is located on the northern American West Coast. Comparable to Seattle.

- R.C Jackson was an American explorer who discovered Kodiak Bay in the mid 1800s. The largest high school in the town is named after him.

- R.C Jackson High's mascot is a Grizzley Bear, and they excel at sports due to the larger pool of athletes at the school.

- The high school's current principal is Mr. Richard Grey.

- You have never heard of The Princess.

Classified School File (WIP)

Image

Full Name: Caitlyn Weber

Gender: Female

Age: 15

Stereotype:

The Idiot-Savant.
One day with Caitlyn might bring the image of Rain Man to mind. Though she possesses an intricate, intuitive understanding of mathematics (and by extension, music), her intense disability in practically all other areas of life render her highly dependent on the care of others.

Senior Quote:

"There is much pleasure to be gained from useless knowledge." - Bertrand Russell

Favourite Class:

A stark tie between Mrs. McKenzie's Calculus and Applied Derivatives AP/Dual Credit and Mr. Henderson's Advanced Musical Theory. These are the only other classes she was attending as general education this year, and was able to perform in them with minimal supplemental aid (much to her parents' and counselor's pride).

She actually intensely dislikes Mr. Johansen's Photography class, largely for the reason that she was coerced into it for the sake of peer integration. Her counselor considered the coursework light enough to ease her into a general education setting.

School Reputation:

She is, for all intents and purposes, an alien to her peers. For most of the day, she remains isolated from the general education track; she rides with her mother to school, mainly participates in special education or individual education programs, and eats her lunch in the counselor's office. At the beginning of the current school year, she performed alongside the band for the "Grizzly Growl" Start of School Spirit Rally. Those in the few classes she does attend (Band II and Pre-Calculus Pre-AP Freshman Year, Calculus and Applied Derivatives AP/Dual Credit, Photography, and Advanced Musical Theory Sophomore Year) wouldn't have much to say about her. She rarely talks or participates. When she does speak up, her words are often simple and slow, giving a low impression of her intellect. She usually needs a supplemental instructor to help her understand course work, and will occasionally throw tantrums out of frustration. This might lead to the belief (despite her reputable talents) that she is "just another SpEd retard."

Strength:

Mathematics are her power, and music is her passion. Caitlyn is able to see the intrinsic patterns in the world around her, quickly processing how everything interacts. When she was younger, her parents had her tested for synesthesia due to her odd way of interpreting the world. The results were negative, but through the session, they realized she using her understanding of music to better process what she was seeing. Much like an eidetic might use colors and rhymes to recall things, she used notes, chords, and tempos to describe the world to herself.

Major Strengths:
  • Pattern Recognition
  • Mental Mathematics
  • Musical Artistry
Weakness:

While she may excel in a small field, the drawbacks show in all other areas of life. Caitlyn is socially inept, and struggles with both verbal and written communication. She currently reads at a fifth-grade level. Caitlyn attends occupational therapy (for coordination and writing) and speech therapy (to help with interaction and socialization). She is unable to read body-language, gets frustrated with anything more complex than single-step instructions, and is easily distracted and overwhelmed by outside stimuli. Emotionally, she is far less mature than her age, which shows in intrusive tantrums whenever she feels too stressed. She also has trouble understanding consequences (especially in terms of social action), and will often unintentionally do things considered inappropriate or harmful without realizing.

Major Weaknesses:
  • Social Interaction/Customs
  • Sensory Processing
  • Cognitive-Linguistic Processing
Personal Belonging:

Klaus Mueller Bucharest violin outfit (violin, rosin, bow, case). It was the first instrument she owned, and she carries it everywhere.

Embarrassing Secret:

Caitlyn needed plastic bedsheets all the way up to age thirteen.

Description:

5', 139 lbs. Sandy hair that falls in waves to mid-back, and dark green to hazel eyes. Her frame is slight, slender to the point of being considered waiflike, with short limbs and fingers. Blessed with all the coordination of a drunken sloth, she moves with an utterly graceless poise, skin bruised and pocked with seemingly ceaseless blunders. Her face is emotive, almost to the point of it being a fault, telegraphing any emotion she's feeling to all who watch. Body language is not intuitive to her, so she is unable to effectively hide (or subtly show) such things properly. In entirety, she gives the impression of someone a good deal younger than her present age, from demeanor, composure, and physical appearance in tandem.

Background:
Alone she drifts from ancient mists
Nary a candle, nary a wish
But in the wont of wandering paths
Through wooded knolls, and windworn crags
She seeks a face she thought as friend
But now -- she thinks as judgement's end

What's the name of the school district? The vice principal? Also, is there a school counselor?

Classsified School File

Image

Full Name: Adam Percival Holland

Gender: Male

Age: 16

Stereotype: Canadian Loner

Senior Quote: Canadians, give us an inch, we take 2.5 centimetres.

Favourite Class: Theatre with Mr. Patel, he's one of the few teacher who want him to step out of his comfort zone. His only complaint is that he shows off Adam's writing and performance.

School Reputation:
Adam was once part of a tight knit friend group in Toronto, who bonded over theatre and art. However, when his father's radio station went bankrupt, his family had to pack up and leave, which meant that he would have to completely leave his comfort zone and make new friends. In his first few weeks, "that new Canadian guy" was pretty popular, with people going up to talk to him, and inviting him to eat or sit with them. However, once his introverted aspects and exclusive interests were shown - and as people realized he wasn't as cool as they thought - he became more solitary, achieving good grades and making a good impression on the teachers, but metaphorically flying under the radar. In the three months he has been in school, Adam has made three friends, but he only really talks to two of them. Adam also auditioned for the Christmas play, and performed quite well at the audtion, however he is uncertain if he wants to put himself out there. Adam's relationship with Jason Morris was awkward. Jason constantly used Adam as a way to elevate himself, not through bullying or joking, but by calling Adam; "bro" or "dude" whenever he saw Adam, much to his annoyment.

Strength: Adam is quite creative, and can easily see things from another point of view. While it isn't much of a survival skill, Adam is a gifted writer. He has a good reaction time, and is over cautious in survival situations.

Weakness:

Uh... Kodiak Independent School District (KISD)
Feel free to name those characters yourself. And yes, there is a counsellor.

I could come up with some names on the fly, but it's all the same, it doesn't matter who names them :)
