Name: Haed (pronounced Shade) Itkorian Delvsa (it means The Idea of Freedom and if 'spoken' by a member of her own race is actually a song...it's complicated. We'll get there later =) )

Gender: Originally female. Currently female. Previously male, and a few others.

Age: 237.5 (young)

Race: Time Siphon (Temporal Vampire, Chrono Ghoul, The Beasts of Cocytus...etc)

Homeworld: Cocytus.

Humans have this perception of time as aline that moves ever forward, sometimes fast, other times slow. To a Time Siphon time is more than something that ticks ever on, time is life, time is a tapestry. The trouble with tapestries is they sometimes tear. The breach at the heart of Cocytus is one such tear and time spews from other realms into our own, a fountain of catastrophe and change...a hole in reality that grows wider with every passing century. The breach, called a Temporal Conflux, ravages our planet's landscape, reducing it to a sea of ever changing insanity. It also makes Cocytus a Time Siphon Mecca.

On Cocytus Time Siphons can gain perspective or hide from the Universe, it is a safe haven from the Temporal Hounds and Hunters that chase us across reality. Here Time Siphons can gather with others of their kind and trust...at least...as far as we ever trust one another. Cocytus is where Time Siphons are born. Out in the wilds of the universe procreation happens from time to time but it's rare, a chance meeting between Time Siphons out there is as likely to end in violence as it is anything else.

Cocytus is a hell world to any other species, most would never survive setting foot on the planet, the vast majority don't make it past the Temporal Eddies that surround it, lost in time, cast through the aeons and gone forever.

Skills:

Haed has trained with her Temporal Blade for years and though capable with other more material swords, she avoids them like the plague. Temporal Blades are an artful weapon, a masterpiece combination of Time Siphon and Blade and it is the weapon of choice when a Time Siphon fights another Time Siphon. Her present blade is a hand and a half sword when activated and is always present attached to her hip, it's hilt clinking against her clothing with her movements.

Haed absolutely loves ballistic weaponry, she's accurate, though not a master marksman but it's what she can do with her powers combined with her ballistics that make her...unique. As a pilot her unique racial attributes can lead to moments of exceptional ability but without use of her powers she is primarily average.

Haed is not good at all with puzzles and she's tragically terrible when it comes to fighting in zero G environments. This is a side effect of spending her life time in the confines of Temporal Armor...that she lost at her last regeneration. (Don't ask, it's upsetting). The armor had allowed her easy maneuverability in any environment and she is now realizing it was an enormous crutch.

Equipment:

Temporal Blade-

The Temporal Blade...Every Time Siphon forges one at some point in their lives, usually early on. It is a masterpiece of arcane Time Siphon technology and it feeds on time, just like its wielder. The blade itself is technically visible only because it is such a massive distortion of space/time that it creates the illusion of an energy blade. What people see is in fact a mobile wound in space/time projected from the hilt of the weapon. It does not cut, it consumes. Contact with the blade ages people and materials in nanoseconds to give the appearance of cutting. The material or flesh in contact with the blade breaks down into ash, allowing for precise cuts and jabs that are entirely bloodless. There are materials that will resist a Temporal Blade, anything with a technically infinite life span (some alloys, etc) will cause the blade to simply stop upon impact and will create visible space/time distortions in waves around the impact sight.

Because Time Siphon vs Time Siphon combat is potentially devastating to their surroundings most prefer to use the Temporal Blade to fight one another and will resort to using their powers directly against one another as something of a last resort...or if they are confident in their supremacy.

Temporal Vault-

A tiny little box she keeps in her room. Inside is a single one of her own cells...a backup plan should her body be destroyed.

She carries a single plasma pistol of archaic design. The pistol is not particularly powerful as far as plasma weaponry goes, but it is certainly better than a butter knife.

Personality:

Time SIphons are generally arrogant. Haed had that beaten out of her, a lot. She is demure, often puts on aires of being submissive or timid. Behind her soft expressions and light body language however lies a certain predatory malevolence. She can be quick to anger with those she knows well but her anger is more for show than anything...she likes to remind her friends and comrades (when she has them) that she's not the submissive little girl in the corner she play acts.

When truly angry, Haed goes utterly silent. Her eyes narrow and she gains an animal gleam to her eyes. When truly pushed to anger she will often become homicidal, allowing the inner animal that resides inside of all Time Siphons out to play. This has caused her to be locked up on numerous occasions throughout her life time...it has also lead to some of her more brutal atrocities.

When and if she makes friends, Haed can be easy going in private, will partake in games and other activities of leisure and tries to be a social creature. In general, she tries to be...reasonable...a big feat for a Time Siphon. What she will not abide is to be treated with contempt or utter disrespect...not by those she knows anyway.

Haed deeply wants to belong to something, anything really, a group, a clan, a kabal, a murderous gang...anything. She has been to Cocytus but once and has rarely encountered others of her diaspora. This has lead to a lonely life, particularly when combined with her unending starvation...and inherent predatory nature.

This is Haed's current form, she doesn't remember who she killed to get it but apparently she was pretty and that's always nice. Gotta look good. Aside from the obvious, Haed's present body is athletic, toned and strong. She quick and flexible with a frame made for stamina. Haed's body has a set of scars under the ribcage on her righr side that are small but visible. She has no idea where they came from, apparently the victim also had been cut at some point.

Haed's hair is almost always kept short and though at first she hated it's random grey streaks, she has come to love them as a unique part of her present appearance and from time to time she dyes them to accent their shade even further. Haed also works to maintain her physique, though she has no need to consume food or drink (although sometimes she does because it can be fun) Haed works out routinely to keep the athletic shape of her body. She sees no reason to let such a valuable resource go to waste.

Finally, her eyes are a sky shade of blue that grow dark with darker moods and become positively radiant gold when she's furious.

Biography:

First, the basics on Time Siphons:

Time Siphons are Temporal Vampires, they are monsters who's species name strikes terror into the hearts of those souls unfortunate enough to have lived close to their empire in the old days (of which this galaxy is not). They consume time, any time as a means of both sustaining themselves and temporarily pushing off their starvation. They feel as if they are constantly on the verge of starving to death, a condition that has driven all of them to murder and more than a few of them insane.

A Time Siphon has varying powers depending upon their lineage (and some they just develop as a result of being alive) as well as a set of powers common to all Time Siphons. A Time Siphon's memory is formed into what they call a "memory pane" (a loose and poor translation) that exists in a constantly shattered state. Each "shard" of the memory pane contains both memories and powers (or enhancements to their existing powers) and will "lock into place" with enough consumed temporal energy. Most Time Siphons never have more than a few shards at a time and those who manage all of them are terrors on a cosmic scale (there is presently exactly one of these and she is very far from here).

Time Siphon powers are divided into two types...those that provide them with temporal energy (gain) and those that drain it (drain).

The gain powers add to what is called a Temporal Reserve while the Drain powers use power from the Temporal Reserve to achieve temporal feats. The lower the Temporal Reserve the fewer memory shards are in place and the more predatory and feral the Time Siphon becomes, the higher their Temporal Reserves the opposite becomes true. A Time Siphon that loses all of its Temporal Reserve dies (forever).

Gain powers fundamental to all Time Siphons:

Temporal Drain- The range and speed varies with power levels but the default is a 30 foot radius and 30 seconds. A Time Siphon can "coil around" the temporal line of a creature or object (it's past, present and possible future) and drain it (all of it). The creature (or object) is reduced to dust at the end of 30 seconds, though items or people with longer life spans take longer to drain. On small items such as bullets, this time is much faster, the blink of an eye, perhaps less. There is a warning of an impending attack, the hair on the back of one's neck stands on end and a chill runs down their spine. The attack is defended by disrupting the Time Siphon's concentration before it takes hold.

Temporal Vision- Though not actually a gain power, this is a neutral ability. Temporal Vision is a mode of viewing the universe where all they see is the temporal lines of everything around them. This provides a Time Siphon with effective three hundred and sixty degree vision that cares little for intervening objects or differing light conditions. Most Time Siphons use this in combat or to gauge the ability of a foe, while sneaking around or when on alert. They alternate freely between modes of vision.

Drain Powers:

Temporal Stutter- Haed can make an object skip a beat in time, either forwards or backwards, so that it gains or loses time. As an example a bullet fired in her direction could be "stuttered" backwards, placing it back near the beginning of its journey from barrel to gun. This requires awareness of being shot at and the reaction time to put it in effect before the bullet impacts.

Temporal Acceleration- Haed can accelerate the flow of time for herself (and her mech) and thus appear to move and react much more quickly than normal, to the point of appearing to have precognition. This is an intense drain on her reserves.

Temporal Dilation- Haed can dramatically decrease the flow of time for an object or person, reducing their actions to appear to be in slow motion. Again this is a considerable drain on her reserves and requires intense focus (which can be disrupted before the process is completed).

Time Step- A high level ability not normally present in Haed's memory pane. She can step into and out of time, using it to travel both space and time, though it requires focus and her trips are generally short. Some Time Siphon Scholars believe this marks her as a distant relative of the infamous Raeyn (rain) but it is merely speculation.

A final note on these powers. All of them (with the exception of Drain) are limited to a range of 20 feet.

Haed hails from Cocytus but she knows little of her own history, most of it seems locked away in broken memory shards. What she does know is that for the last one hundred and fifty years she has operated as a smuggler, bounty hunter and hacker. She has racked up a bit of a minor record with all three of those and her true criminal record resides with the fact that she is also wanted for mass murder...though she doesn't remember the event.

Haed has been alone for most of her life, only spending time with groups in short bursts and she has only met two other Time Siphons (that she remembers), one of which tried to kill her. She has never traveled to Cocytus and does not recall her parents, nor have her parents ever come looking for her. She is jealous of those with intact families (and memories) and strives daily to create some sort of surrogate family for herself by acquiring what she has heard others call "friends." This would be easier if she wasn't...well...

In jail. At least until now, when she's been wheeled out of a prison specifically built to contain Time Siphons to become part of this new project. What lies ahead she doesn't know...but she's sure glad to be out of the little cube she was living in. Haed hopes there is a chance to make some friends and stop running. She'd also like to eat. Those two might...conflict.

When she does think about her past, Haed mostly remembers a distant galaxy teaming with life. She remembers living for awhile on a planet that was blazing ice and spent some time there as her happiest moments. When she lived there she lived among "friends" and developed a close relationship with several of them. This was shattered when pirates assaulted their little mining operation. They fought side by side, she with her temporal blade, they with their guns. Everything was going poorly and eventually Haed was struck by several rounds, crippling her body. With her life blood running out of her on the ground Haed lashed out...but to do so she needed energy...temporal energy.

She wakes up some nights to the dying screams of the men who had called her friend. This wasn't helped by the fact that in a recent incarnation she wore one of them as a body. This is her deepest regret, it is the heart of why she doesn't trust herself and it is also the reason she sometimes puts up barriers...even though she's trying to make new friends.

She doesn't want to kill them.

Again.

Origins:

After the pirate incident she traveled the stars for awhile getting whatever jobs she could. There is a blank spot in her memory after that...and she wound up in prison. A prison built for Time Siphons. It seems her jailers had no earthly clue how to actually kill her, so they settled for locking her away. Eventually someone came with a lot of credits and the desire for someone with her particular...set of skills.

Haed was released into their custody and transported her shackled and bound to a gurney like a monster. In this galaxy Time Siphon has little meaning but whoever her jailers were knew how to lock one away. Most prisons fail miserably against the powers of a Time Siphon, but not this one. Haed wants to find out who these people were. When she feels recovered and like she might have allies, she wants to find out who put her in prison and she wants to end them, destroy their prison and leave their families weeping in the aftermath.

Her imprisonment was not kind, she was abused, beaten and temporally starved to the point of near death numerous times. She has not forgotten this treatment. The subdued and compliant attitude she carefully cultivates was a survival mechanism in prison and now she continues to use it, both to gain trust and to make people underestimate her. Deep inside Haed is wounded, badly...

-----------------------

"Prisoner Zero Zero Zero, step back from the yellow line."

Haed heard the command through the speakers built into her cell walls and glared up at the tiny stream of light pouring through the vision slit in the door. It was an error, it had been an error she had quietly cultivated through her long years in this horrid cage. With all their perfection of design the Wardens had a critical failure...they understood Time Siphons...but not creativity. Light had a life span, light, or more correctly, photons, had movement and energy. When she had first been thrown in this wretched box Haed had been weak of mind, unable to comprehend the subtleties of time. With each passing year desperation became her teacher until now she had a finesse usually reserved for much older Time Siphons.

She learned to manipulate small things,to feed off of the energy between atoms, off of the temporal half-life of background radiation. Not everything needed to be big, if she could focus, and she had all the time in the world to do that, the universe would provide. She licked dry lips, smirking to herself and closed her eyes. She could still see as the door slid open and light flooded into the black walled cell. She heard the clanking of keys and the shuffling of chains but her eyes were focused on the temporal lines of the Wardens. They had made their Temporal Lines "slippery" a tactic known to Time Siphons by which some were capable of shielding themselves from Temporal Drain. She had been studying that too.

There was a way around it. The way had occurred to her one night while she was feeding on light. A cruel smile spread across her lips. Unfortunately, she didn't have the time to focus right now. She lay limp and made them forced the supposedly defeated Time Siphon to her feat.

"She doesn't seem like a threat to me."

That was one of the young Wardens, a new arrival to the prison. He was hilarious.

"Ha! When she first came here, she butchered...and I do mean butchered, twelve guards, instantly. She's faking it. That was before we had figured out ways to protect ourselves and everything was done by automation."

The older Warden shook his head. "Don't understimate a wounded animal kid."

She felt Black Alloy cuffs lock her arms to a gurney, also made of the same material and then a strap went across her waist, her breasts and her knees to lock her into place. She heard chains and felt increased weight tugging at her body. Last in place was a cold Black Alloy muzzle, strapped over her mouth and face so that only her eyes, closed, were visible.

She remained still and silent as it was wheeled out of the prison, her Temporal Vision mapping the prison complex as they moved through it. From there she was loaded onto a shuttle. She tried to cock her head as the shuttle ramp closed with a loud snarl of hydraulics and she felt herself pushed down hard with the thrust of lift off. She didn't have the range to see the planet itself, so instead she tapped a finger against the Black Alloy in time with the beats of her heart.

The younger Warden looked her way.

"The hell is she doing?" He asked

"Don't know kid." The older one replied.

She was timing the distance from prison to when the ride suddenly became smooth as they left the atmosphere. She stopped. Then she started again, now timing the duration of their flight from the planet to the waiting ship. Each planet had a different safe gravitational point from which ships could jump in and out of the region. All manner of details played into where this point was located. One of them was time, or more specifically, the fabric of space/time itself. She grinned when she felt the otherwise imperceptible shift in her heart rythms as they left the greater part of the planet's gravitational pull. She committed the time to memory. It wasn't much...but it would help. One day.

One day she was going to come back here. Oh what fun it would be.

-- Vehicle Sheet --

Appearance: The Alpha is thirty feet tall, and shines with a hotrod red and cobalt blue colour scheme. The Mech shows little damage, but it has certainly be tested in battle.

Other Features: The Alpha features an advanced battlefield evaluation software, feeding Hale information on every aspect for the battle as he orders his team.

Name: Ooda Kemtoini Arathka (The Moment of Revenge)

Role in Combat: Scouting and Harrasment

Weapons:

The Ooda is a fast, sleek machine built by Haed's own two hands. Every piece has come from story, every plate, every bolt has a history to it selected carefully by reading its Temporal Line. The machine is not quite a masterpiece and looks more like it shouldn't function than it should. It wields a big ungainly gun that is mostly a long piece of metal tubing with a series of electro magnetic coils built into it. The railgun fires solid shot projectiles stored inside the left and center torsos of the machine.

Mech Origins: Haed built it with her own two hands. She has pieced it together through varying supplies, some stolen, some purchased and many salvaged. Her previous incarnation was particularly skilled with machine work and much of the assembly of the mech was done during this time period. When things got...hairy...she put the mech in a storage facility. It's time to go collect.

Appearance:

Tall, sleek and thin. The machine is covered in white armor plating edged with combinations of brass and bronze. There are precisely two icons painted on the hull, one on the center torso and one on the right shoulder plating. The Shoulder icon is a circle split by a jagged line from edge to edge, a rough image of Cocytus.

The image on the center torso she claims to be her family crest. It is a series of unknowable runes on a rectangular grey shield. What any of these runes mean she has never explained but they have deep personal meaning to her. Supposedly they are part of her native language.

The machine carries its gun in both hands. The rail rifle looks more like a long tube with a pistol grip than a properly designed weapon but it is perfectly functional, if a bit ugly. At a distance the mech looks like a soldier coming home from war, a quiet wanderer that walks with an all too natural gait. Up close, it looks more ramshackle, like it might just fall apart at any moment, but it never has.

Other Features:

The mech is piloted by direct neural interface and reacts like an extension of her own body. It is quick and agile, much like its pilot and does best when not hit (much like its pilot) as the armor is relatively thin. The machine is also equipped with potent jump jets and can sustain limited flight. The power system itself is a salvaged drive from an old starship wreck that's probably older than the pilot and functions. Most of the time.

Because of its connection with Haed's neural pathways the machine has something of a personality, not too different from its pilot. The machine can be grumbly, obtuse and even refuses to be worked on by others, going so far as to frustratingly start and restart its systems constantly when someone attempts to work on it. There is no question The Ooday is Haed's and perhaps Haed is the Ooda's. Whatever the case, machine and pilot work well together and she enjoys living on the edge, piloting a machine that works (mostly) and is held together as much by spit and tape as by actual mechanical parts. The machine is more resilient than it appears but it best suited in a scouting or support role.

-- Character Sheet --

Name: Karana Shiori
Gender: F
Age: 26
Race: Human
Homeworld: Karana's birthplace was the Exuberance, a luxury liner owned by her parents' corporation.

Skills:
Diplomacy and negotiation: Karana was raised from an early age to be polite and diplomatic, to see both sides of a conflict and help them come to a compromise. She is an extremely skilled negotiator, and while much of her training is in the area of trade and contracts, she is also skilled at interpersonal psychology and can act as a counselor if need be, although she prefers to dedicate her skills to larger fields, like trade and corporate negotiations.

Accountant: Karana is mathematically skilled, and is capable of following accounts documents as well as finding any discrepancies therein. She is also skilled in the fine art of, shall we say, creative accountancy, although she would certainly never admit to such.

Polite Conversation: A lost art, by most accounts, Karana can be charming at will.

Equipment: Most of her equipment is various communications devices, allowing her up-to-date information on intergalactic stocks and corporate trading. She carries a concealed stun weapon, but no lethal weaponry. She also possesses an all-environment suit capable of sustaining her in nearly any planetary environment as well as in space. Most of her equipment is cosmetic, including extremely well-tailored attire and some very nice jewelry selections. It should also be noted, perhaps as equipment, that Karana has an exceptionally large bank account.

Biography: Karana is the only daughter of Artis and Mienne Shiori, the owners of the small but profitable Shiori Corporation. Her parents' corporation specializes largely in pharmaceuticals, applying human creativity to alien biologies to provide a wide range of effective treatments for a number of intergalactic conditions. While the corporation itself is profitable, human lifespans make it unlikely that Karana would inherit the corporation any time before her old age. Her parents, therefore, have largely prepped her to be an asset through her abilities, and have also always been clear that one of the best things Karana can do for the company is to marry well and forge a corporate or diplomatic alliance for the corporation in that manner. She has no issue with the idea, but is not in much of a hurry for such a thing to happen.

Most of her childhood was spent on education - both the standard curriculum as well as emphasis in economics and politics, and also the more quiet arts of courtship and hostessing. She did not attend a traditional school, but was educated entirely by a series of very good tutors. At the age of 18, she was gently nudged into the greater universe. Her first position was as a planet-based stockbroker and contracts manager for a prestigious firm, and she performed well there, but after two years she acknowledged that she was not comfortable settling down in a planetary environment and wished to get out into space where she belonged. Her next position was on a starbase, working as a Species Resources contract specialist - specifically, her role was to understand the needs of individuals of various species who were seeking employment, and help the starbase management create job contracts that addressed the desires of all parties and resolve offers in a satisfactory manner.

Karana quite enjoyed this position, feeling like it was a good use of her talents, and stayed there for quite some time. Recently, though, she has begun to feel as if she has run out of room for advancement with the starbase, and she is now looking to strike out on her own and find work with more varied opportunities to build her skillset.

Personality:
Karana is an extremely driven individual. She is unfailingly courteous as she has been trained to be, but it would be a mistake to confuse politeness and submission. When she has her mind set on something, she goes after it entirely with all the resources at her disposal. Karana prefers to keep things legal because it is far tidier that way, but if the necessary documentation doesn't line up without guerilla editing, she will see to it that things are accomplished in whatever manner is needed. Despite her ruthlessness to corporations and contracts, she is generally loyal to individuals who she feels have earned her loyalty.

She is generally nonviolent, feeling that if a situation has devolved into the need to use violence, it has already gotten out of hand. She has no issue with others using violence, of course, but she prefers not to dirty her own hands. Violence is for the lower classes, and Karana very much considers herself upper class. She is always courteous, but she is not always nice.

Appearance:
Black hair, almost always worn twisted or coiled up somehow, secured with combs or hairpins of exceptional craftmanship and quality, many of which would probably be worth a year's salary for some professions. Karana collects them. Unbound, her hair falls to about mid-back.
Cobalt blue eyes, a non-natural color selected by her parents with intrauterine gene therapy, and accentuated by subtle cosmetics.
Most often, Karana will be wearing a tailored business suit. She prefers muted blues and grays.

Origins:

"Miss Shiori, dinner is prepared."

"Thank you, Andrew." Karana Shiori, a proud and confident eighteen, set aside the stylus on her workdesk and rose to walk sedately through the private hallways of Exuberance II's executive wing, arriving in the dining hall shortly after her mother and taking her seat at the table, crossing her legs with proper posture in the moments before her father arrived as well and the serving staff set out the dishes and served the first course. Conversation, naturally, did not begin until the servers had absented themselves, and her mother as hostess had the right and duty to open the conversation.

The door of the chamber slid closed, and Mienne Shiori waited the precise six seconds before offering a smile to her family. "You look well today, kit. Have you been studying?"

"Thank you, mother. And no, I was most recently looking over the Ansari contract proposal, I can't help but feel that some of the concessions offered are not quite correct. Adam Ansari, I think, would accept fewer concessions if they were the right sort, and I feel we can strengthen our position with a bit more effort to that effect."

"You are your father's daughter." It was said with affection, not condemnation, and Karana's parents shared a look of amusement before her father took up the conversation.

"Karana. Your mother and I know you do well here, but the Shiori corporation can review its own contracts well enough. Doubling the work of others has been an excellent learning experience, but your mother and I feel that it would be good for you to step out on your own for a time."

Karana met this with silence but for the clink of a soup spoon as she lay it back against the bowl. It would have been rude to let the silence last more than two seconds. "I see." It was a stopgap measure for the conversation, but it bought her another two seconds if no one else accepted the conversation.

Fortunately, maternal feelings overrode conversational awkwardness. "There will always be a home for you here, should you choose. But... Karana, you're as good as you can be here without more experience, and the sort of experience you need, you aren't going to find with us. We want you to succeed."

Karana nodded slightly, and picked up the soup spoon, drawing a breath as her life unfolded before her. "Certainly," she said, with a polite smile, "I will begin research on various positions tomorrow."

Theme: Brahms' Symphony No 4.

-- Vehicle Sheet --

Name: Equity
Most people hear this name and assume that it is some sort of reference to equality or equal rights or something along those veins. Karana finds this amusing, but in fact her vehicle is named in the sense of the accounting term: Equity is assets minus liabilities. Accounting humor has been known to bypass most species - and indeed most individuals - in the known galaxy.

Role in Combat: Fighting is for other people. The Equity chooses to observe rather than participate.

Weapons: Equity is officially an unarmed vessel. It is equipped with cutting lasers to ease its passage through difficult terrain, with detonation charges to assist in the creation of planet-based landing areas, and with shield-disruption charges to enable it to dock with derelict vessels to render aid.

Ship Origins: The Equity was designed by contracted shipwrights to Karana's specification, and paid for in full by her parents.

Appearance: Small and streamlined, with decorative fins, Equity resembles a koi more than anything else. The hull is intricately painted by artistic professionals in a silver and gold scale pattern. It is a one-person vessel, capable of bearing only its pilot, and while it can be used for longer term travel, it is certainly not comfortable to do so.

Other Features: Mostly Equity relies on its relatively small size, maneuverability, and speed to keep it out of harm's way, but as even the most diplomatic of ships can end up in the wrong place at the wrong time, it also has a lightly armored hull and top-of-the-line shield generators. Most of the Equity's capabilities lie in its observational systems - it has excellent sensor equipment and recording software, with enough computer capacity to store a near-infinite amount of data onboard.
