This is not a story for heroes, their time came and went. When the Sorceror King made deals with dark gods for power and stalked the land, the very best were sent to face him. Whole armies smashed against his fortress of the Black Spire, and were repelled by his Legion and monsters. As the Black Spire drew power from the land, corrupting it as he prepared to launch an attack on the very heavens, thousands sacrificed themselves to ensure the best and brightest breached the walls. All hope rested on their shoulders, the one chance they had to bring down this would-be god, and they failed. A piercing red beam of light shot up into the air, piercing through the sun itself.
And then the sky cracked and fell.
The sky turned a deep purple, the light of the sun tainted and turned dark so much that night and day began to blur, deep veins of luminescent pink streaked across the sky, magic in its purest form. The Spire rose high, protected by a magic shield as it dominated over the world above. The Sorcerer King had won, now a god with dominion over the land. His Legion crossed the world, taking control of every free town and settlement, his monsters roaming forests, deserts and oceans to hunt down those who would threaten his rule. Most of the world tore itself apart fighting for remaining resources, so that when the Legion arrived it was almost a mercy when they took command. Food was tightly controlled and regulated, so much so that when the common folk were given it they praised the Sorceror King for his generosity. After all, for the poorest and weakest, life wasn't much better under brave knights, kings and priests. In this new age of lawlessness theft, murder and banditry served them much better than hard, honest work. Should they prove themselves as well, they might be offered to join the ranks of the Legion, to enjoy the benefits of serving a god-king. Yet although magic flows freely through the world, aiding the demons and monsters and allowing the Spire to hover above the world, fate has determined this to be a double edged blade.
Some of those born into this world of darkness and magic are given a gift by it. Known as the Dark Children, they can harness magic naturally to a degree never before seen. Some once combined their strength before to shatter mountains and launch the remains at the Spire, however the Sorceror King easily swept the attack away. Ever since, Dark Children are hunted from birth and killed to prevent them rising up, although every now and again a few slip the net. They often rise to hold prominent positions in guilds and criminal organisations. However over 60 years from the world's ending, a new power rises to challenge the Sorceror King.
In the city of Noxoth, built in the shadow of the Black Spire, a valuable shipment of weapons and food approaches the worlds largest city. Known as the City of Eternal Night, it exists eternally in the shade and relies on food taxed and taken from the surrounding villages. Magic runs thick here, with certain sections of the city floating above and held in place and together with chains, the very essence of magic captured and contained in signs to provide light and draw people into the many taverns, brothels and shops the line the area. Every faction here rules over their own part of the city, each criminal organisation respecting each others turf, however the recent animosity in the area has everyone ready to take more risks incase of gang warfare. Each has prepared a small team to attack and capture the shipment before its within grasp of the Legion, unaware of the true value. A magical artifact of tremendous power, sought after by the Sorceror King himself, resides hidden within the shipment. To add to the chaos, a Dark Child leads each group in their attempt to attack the caravan, unaware that they will fight and meet others of their kind, and that it will set acts in motion that cannot be stopped.
No more paladins and heroes, or a leader foretold by prophesy. No more knights in shining armour. The new war against the Sorceror King will be led by assassins and criminals, bandits and killers. Children born in darkness, with power that can shake the very earth will decide the fate of all. Should they succeed, will they restore the old order and save the world? Or will the people welcome new god-kings?
(Just looking to gage interest at the moment in a dark fantasy group RP. When planning your character, it should reflect the fact they are a survivor who will do whatever it takes to succeed. Not looking for characters who are perfect and defined, but rather those with a darkside and who live in the grey. Leave a message if interested, and hopefully you enjoy working together to world build, write lore and of course RP!)

Re: [F] No more Heroes Request
I’m interested and going to work on a character, I did have a question. Do you already have names for the different factions going after the shipment or is that something you are wanting us to come up with?

Re: [F] No more Heroes Request
You're more than welcome to create your own faction and what sort of business they are in (money lending, cartel, assasins guild etc). Give them a name and I'll make a small lore description on what they are just for future involvement with the Dark Children.
If there are a few more members we can continue with the idea, or I will tweak it to suite a 1 on 1.
