There are multiple queens. If you kill a queen all the monsters under that queen will just stop and do nothing. They stop having a purpose and left alone long enough they die of depression. However if another queen finds the monsters she can influence them and make them serve her. That’s where Eragon has the advantage. He is a telepath and can control the monsters himself.
This is the same for a the queen xenomorph I beleive.
If a telepath decided to take the monsters by force from the queen that’s when the ‘battle of the minds’ comes in. Which most likely the queen would win.

This isnt the case with xenomorphs when xenomorph queen is killed most of the time it isnt a big deal due to if a queen face hugger is alive. If a queen facehugger is not alive then one of two things could happen A: the xenomorph could evolve into a queen. B: the possibly of the xenomorphs turning a victom into a queen facehugger egg. Tho this part im not fully aware on how that works. Either way even tho a queen is dead or is no queen in general the xenomorphs can not be controlled since their objective would be to get a new queen by any means nessisary. As for a battle of minds yes in the xenomorph case the queen would most certainly win.

Lol sorry kinda got carried away with the explanation
